You wanted to know . . .

I love shellfish, but it contains a lot of cholesterol. I have high cholesterol; should I avoid shrimp and the like?

Marilyn Baratto
Brooklyn, NY

People who are being treated for high cholesterol (240 mg/dl and higher) may consume up to 200 mg per day of dietary cholesterol, about the amount in 3 ounces of shrimp or several servings of lobster or king crab. Most blood cholesterol comes from saturated or trans fats, which stimulate the liver to produce LDL cholesterol. Limit your intake of those fats, typically found in red meat, full-fat dairy products, and foods fried in animal fat.

In stores, TVs are connected to cable. How can I tell how good HD-picture quality will be with an antenna?

Matthew Kurlan
San Diego, CA

You can't in the store. But any HD set highly rated for picture quality and with a built-in digital tuner can deliver excellent HD images. Picture quality will depend on the terrain at your home, the distance from broadcast towers, and signal strength. If the signal is strong, the TV will provide superb HD-picture quality.

It takes a long time for hot water to reach my bathroom. Will a tankless water heater waste less water?

Robert Billingsley
San Pedro, CA

Placing a tankless model closer to your bath might reduce wasted water. Note that because the new unit might be farther from another bath, users of that bath might use more water. Also keep in mind that because tankless units let you take longer showers without worrying about running out of hot water, you could end up using more water and energy.
