A helping of flavor with your fiber

You don't need to choke down your breakfast to get a healthful dose of fiber. Our trained tasters found seven especially flavorful choices among 18 high-fiber cereals. That's progress. A decade ago we found that the most fiber-rich cereals tasted "more like straw than grain."

The improvement is good news. Most Americans could stand to double their intake of fiber, which can help control appetite and weight and might help lower the risk of heart disease and type 2 diabetes. Per serving, the cereals we tested have 25 to 50 percent of the dietary guideline for a 2,000-calorie diet, which is 28 grams.
