The Lexus HS 250h and Suzuki Kizashi are the latest vehicles to be crash tested by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The Lexus HS 250h earns a Good score in the side crash test and both the Lexus and Suzuki earn Acceptable scores in the roof crush test. The HS 250h previously earned a Good score for the frontal test. The strength-to-weight ratio for the Lexus in the rollover evaluation is 3.60. The Kizashi roof strength ratio is 3.92.

To earn a Good rating in the new roof-strength test, a vehicle has to have a strength-to-weight ratio (SWR) of 4:1 or better. That means the roof would support an impact with four times the force of that vehicle’s weight without deforming more than five inches. An Acceptable rating requires a roof-strength ratio of 3.25. Below a ratio of 2.5, earns a Poor rating.

The Kizashi has not yet been evaluated for the front and side impact test, but it will be tested later this year.
