2011 Geneva Show: Saab PhoeniX concept rises from GM's ashes

Consumer Reports News: March 02, 2011 03:20 PM

Spyker, Saab's new owners, is wasting no time demonstrating their independence from General Motors, with a new show-car debut at Geneva that bears little resemblance to the concepts of Saab's recent past.

Penned by the designer of the Ferrari P4/5, the PhoeniX concept is much more reminiscent of the sports cars the company produces, than of past Saab models. It's a small two-plus-two seater that uses Saab's 200-hp, 1.6-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder engine and all-wheel drive.

One thing we will see in production is Saab's new Android-based IQon infotainment platform. We hope it works better than Ford's Microsoft-designed MyFord Touch system.

This striking concept portends of future design, inspired not by planes but super cars.
