Recall: Pogoplug Video file sharing device may catch fire

Consumer Reports News: August 03, 2011 09:23 AM

Better unplug your Pogoplug Video, if you have one. The video sharing device, from Cloud Engines in San Francisco, is being recalled because it's a hot computer peripheral. Literally.

The company, along with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada, announced the recall, warning the devices can overheat or catch fire, emitting excessive heat, sparks, smoke or flames. Cloud Engines has received three reports of the Pogoplug Video devices units overheating. One device caught fire, one device emitted smoke, and one device melted, damaging the desk it was on.

Approximately 11,000 of the $200 Pogoplug Video units were sold in the U.S. and Canada through retailers such as Adorama, B&H, Best Buy, Buy.com, J&R, Pogoplug.com, New Egg, and Sony Style between March and June.

Consumers are urged to immediately unplug and stop using the video file-sharing peripheral. They should also contact Cloud Engines (toll-free: 866-582-6651, e-mail: videorecall 'at' cloudengines.com, website: www.pogoplug.com) for more information and to request a refund or replacement unit.
