Video: Consumer Reports on hottest fuel-efficient compact cars

Consumer Reports News: August 16, 2011 11:08 AM

With high gas prices continuing through the summer and a struggling economy, small cars are heating up the automotive market. Consumer Reports Auto Test Center Senior Director David Champion recently discussed the hottest fuel-efficient compact cars with CNBC’s Maria Bartiromo.

Champion highlights several small cars in the video: Fiat 500, Ford Fiesta, Honda Fit, and Hyundai Accent. All four deliver good fuel economy, are relatively comfortable, and have a decent ride, but test performance does vary, reminding that not all cars are created equal.

We have fully tested the Fiesta and Fit (see our road tests). The Fiat 500 and Hyundai Accent are currently in testing, so we don’t have full results or our overall fuel economy numbers yet, so the figures below are from the EPA. The Fiat 500 will appear in our October issue and online at the end of August.

Check out the video below to get our take on these popular models. See more cars that help save at the pump in our list of best cars for fuel economy and learn how to save gas in your current car in our guide to fuel economy.
