With eBay's RedLaser mobile app, you can now buy products directly from area retailers through your mobile device, if the products are in stock.

The RedLaser app lets you comparison shop by scanning a bar code or QR code or by typing in the product's name. In the past, the barcode-scanning app has shown the prices for the product at both online and local brick-and-mortar retailers. Now RedLaser users can also see a selection of local retailers where the product is in stock and can be bought through the mobile app. If the shopper wants to do so, he or she can complete the transaction via PayPal, and then the purchased item can be picked up at the store.

For now, only a handful of retailers have signed on, including Toys''R''Us , but eBay expects more to join over time.

As CNet's, Daniel Terdiman makes clear, the whole point is to make shopping easier, and this could be a useful tool for holiday shoppers who waited a bit too long to have gifts shipped.
