Target recalls Circo children's suitcases for unsafe lead levels

Consumer Reports News: December 22, 2011 12:38 PM

Target Corp. of Minneapolis, Minn., is recalling approximately 139,000 children's suitcases today. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the 17-inch Circo Children's Travel Cases have surface coatings which contain excessive levels of lead and violate federal safety standards.

The CPSC says the recalled kids' travel cases have a Circo brand label attached to the fabric handle on top. The girls' version of the Circo suitcase have a heart, butterfly and daisy flower pattern on a pink or teal background along with a plush butterfly attached to the zipper pull. The boys' version have three airplanes (one each in red, blue and green) on a red or blue airplane-patterned background with a plush blue airplane zipper pull.

The Circo children's suitcases were sold at Target stores nationwide and online at Target.com from April 2011 through August 2011 for about $21. The recalled cases can be further identified by the following information, printed on the round Circo hang tag or a white label sewn inside the main zippered compartment:
