The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has issued a recall warning for two batches of Organique Nourishing Night Cream made by HimalayaUSA, over concerns of contamination with fungus and the staphylococcus aureus bacteria.
The FDA says a test of a random sample of the beauty product revealed the presence of the microbes in one batch—#S691001—of Organique by Himalaya Nourishing Night Cream. And according to a statement released by the U.S. division of the Himalaya Drugs company, the source of the contamination has been traced to the bottle's pump components, which are manufactured by another company.
Officials stress that the microbes are naturally-occurring and there have been no reports of illness or injury among consumers. However since the bacteria may infect consumers with skin wounds or compromised immune systems, HimalayaUSA is recalling the affected batch. As a precautionary measure, the company is also recalling batch #S691002 of the Organique night cream, which uses pump parts from the same manufacturer as the affected batch but has not tested positive for the bacterial contaminants.
Consumers can identify the Organique by Himalaya Nourishing Night Cream products, which were sold nationwide in the U.S. and Canada, by its teal bottle and orange caps. The batch numbers are located on the bottom of each bottle.
HimalayaUSA urges customers with the recalled night cream to return the product to the place of purchase or directly to the company for a full refund or replacement.
