Frigidaire earned top marks among large and medium-size models in our latest report on dehumidifiers—with one caveat. Due to an initial design flaw that was later corrected by the manufacturer, a special adapter could be required on certain models in order to run the units on continuous-drain mode. As we reported, the adapter was supposed to be provided free to owners of defective units who contacted Frigidaire's customer service department. But two readers wrote to us saying that they were being charged $10 for the fix.

We contacted Frigidaire and were told that the adapter should absolutely be delivered free of charge to any customers with an affected unit. The spokesperson conceded, however, that there had been an internal miscommunication within the customer service department, and that all representatives have since been retrained on the matter. For good measure, we contacted the department at 706-860-4110 and were told that the adapter would indeed be sent for free. If you experience trouble, please notify us in the comment box below.

And if you're in the market for a new dehumidifier, check our complete Ratings to find the unit that's right for you. Models by GE, Haier and Soleus also make our winner's list.
