The redesigned 2017 Titan comes with a gas 5.6-liter V8 that gained more horsepower. It is mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission instead of the previous five-speed. A V6 engine will follow later. A suite of safety and driver-assistance features are offered, including Nissan's surround-view camera system, blind-spot warning, and moving-object detection. The Titan XD (Extra Duty), is positioned to offer features and capabilities usually associated with the larger heavy-duty pickups, but without getting hardcore with a stiff ride. Nissan offers a generous warranty as well as an available V8 Cummins diesel engine. When properly equipped, the Titan tows 9,730 pounds. The previous Titan was relatively agile, but the ride suffered from a rubbery jiggle. The V8 provided strong acceleration with the very smooth five-speed automatic transmission, but engine drone became tiresome and fuel economy was a dismal 14-mpg overall.
