Candy countdown
How much damage are you really doing with those Halloween treats?

After all those ghouls and goblins have visited, you may find you have a pile of leftover Halloween treats. Gee, why did you buy so much? And, funny, it’s all the candy you like best! Wait a minute, the space around the kids’ candy stash needs an emergency dusting--suddenly, you find yourself snacking. Well, no big deal. Those bitty things are about the size of a D battery, so they can’t have that many calories, right? We thought we’d better check before the bingeing begins. And we were happy to learn that most minibars can be savored for less than 100 calories. But let’s be real: Who eats just one? You’ll find some varieties deliver a much bigger calorie blow than others. For example, you can enjoy seven Tootsie Rolls for about the same number of calories as just four baby Baby Ruths or Butterfingers. Here are chocolate bars--and some smaller Halloween treats--by the numbers.
