The Tiguan is a solid and agile small SUV. It offers a roomy rear seat and has excellent fit and finish. Handling is very responsive and enjoyable, with sharp steering, and the Tiguan is secure at its limits. The ride is stiff in the SEL with 19-inch, low-profile tires, but it's more comfortable and has less tire noise in lower trims that ride on 17-inch tires. The 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder engine is smooth and punchy, and it yielded 21 mpg overall in our tests. A well-equipped Tiguan can easily climb into the mid-$30,000 range. Crash-test results are impressive. Reliability has been average.
