Pizza actually can be a pretty healthful meal, since it has three of the major food groups (vegetable, dairy, and grain), but according to our nutritional experts, you need to read the fine print. Our charts list 51 frozen pizzas from the most to least nutritious in four categories to help you make smarter choices. This isn't about taste—that part's up to you.

As you might expect, cheese and veggie frozen pizzas were among the lowest in saturated fat. And the cheese makes all frozen pizza a good source of calcium. The nutrition ratings are based on product labels. They take into account calories, total fat, trans fat, saturated fat, sodium, sugars, iron, calcium, and dietary fiber. The good and bad stuff is weighted so that higher fat and sodium earn a lower rating and more calcium and lower sodium a higher one, for example.

The bottom line

Your best bet is to pick a cheese or veggie frozen pizza. For a balanced meal, add a salad with lower-calorie dressing, and pay attention to serving size.
