MANAGING MEDICINE
Overusing prescription and over-the-counter drugs or supplements can increase headache pain.
1
Take medication properly and don’t use it more than twice a week. See your doctor if the headache persists.

2
Inform your doctors about all the prescription and nonprescription drugs you’re taking, including any supplements.

3
For chronic headaches, consider nondrug treatments such as acupuncture, biofeedback, physical therapy, and relaxation techniques.

4
If your doctor suggests that you have a medication-overuse headache, work with him or her to taper off the drugs. Ask your doctor whether a drug designed to prevent headaches (a prophylactic agent) might help.
