    The Bosch 800 Series HGI8054UC is part of the Range test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, Gas range models like the 800 Series HGI8054UC are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

    Cooktop high: This reflects how quickly the most powerful burner could raise a 6-liter (6 1/3-quart) pot of water from room temperature to a near boil.

    Cooktop low: This how well the lowest-powered element or burner kept a low temperature as for melting chocolate. We also set the most powerful burner to its lowest flame to test its ability to hold a large pot of tomato sauce below a boil.

    Baking: This reflects the evenness of cookies and cakes in multi-rack baking tests.

    Grates Grates The grates on a gas cooktop vary in material and design, mostly by the price you pay for a range. The least expensive ranges have thin steel grates that cover only the burners. Upscale models generally have beefier grates made of porcelain-coated cast iron. These grates are also sometimes continuous, covering the whole cooktop. This allows you to easily slide pots on and off the burner. The most expensive, pro-style ranges typically have even-heavier cast-iron grates that are almost always of the continuous design.
