Appliance and electronics sales get a lot of the glory on Black Friday and Cyber Monday, but you can snag a great deal on a good mattress, too. We asked a number of online mattress companies whether they’d planned anything special for the traditionally brick-and-mortar sale day—as well as Cyber Monday.

"Retailers are more likely to give bigger deals on Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and throughout the holiday season," says Claudette Ennis, CR's market analyst for mattresses. "Research and determine what type of mattress you want and how much you want to spend in advance." CR's Mattress Buying Guide is a good place to start.

All of the mattress companies below (listed alphabetically) have models that fared well overall in our mattress ratings. We've also listed the company's return policy so you can get a quick look at the big picture. Stay tuned: We'll continue updating this round-up as more deals drop.

Casper
Last year, Casper offered a $75 discount with the purchase of a mattress and a bedding accessory, but so far the company has remained mum as to its 2017 plans. Casper’s The Casper, a queen-size memory- and latex-foam mattress, offers a good night's rest to all of the sleeper types (back sleeper, or side sleeper, for instance) we test for. CR subscribers say Casper mattresses are a great value, and more than half of the subscribers we surveyed say they would buy another. The company offers a 100-day trial period in which you can return a mattress with a receipt (though you can only do this once).

More on Mattresses

Essentia
CR tested the queen-sized Essentia Stratami, a foam mattress with a relatively hefty price of $2,445. It is worth it? The Stratami has great stabilization, so you won’t be bounced out of bed when your partner jumps in, and suits every type of sleeper we test for. The company is offering 20 percent off purchases less than $4,000, and 25 percent off purchases more than $4,000.

Essentia is also offering gift certificates (emailed to you after purchase), though you can't use those until after December 5. If you buy a Bionda or Stratami mattress, you’ll receive $100 to spend; a Classic 8 and Energie Opus mattress will grant you $200; a Beausommet, Dormeuse, or Dormeuse Fior mattress gets you $300. Essentia mattresses are returnable within 60 days of delivery, though the company will charge a 9 percent service fee if you decide to send it back.

GhostBed
At only $795, the queen-size GhostBed foam mattress suited many different types of sleepers and had a firmness rating of 7 (on a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being the softest and 10 being the firmest) in our tests. The company is putting the bed on sale from Black Friday to Cyber Monday—offering all customers a discount of $100, plus two free GhostPillows with any mattress purchase. You can return a GhostBed within 101 days of delivery, but only after you've slept on it for a required 30 days.

Leesa
Leesa's queen-sized Leesa mattress just misses our foam mattress recommendations by a few points, but it's overall a good choice for petite and average back sleepers. As a mattress, it rates right in the middle as a 5 in firmness on a scale of 1 to 10 with 1 being the softest and 10 being the firmest. The mattress retails for $890, but Leesa is offering a $125 discount off its mattresses if you sign up for email marketing and throws in a free Leesa pillow that normally retails for $75.

Purple
Purple's throwing in a free Purple Pillow with the purchase of a mattress while supplies last—the company is hoping that will hold through the end of November. Purple’s The Purple foam mattress, $1,000 for a queen, earns a 3 on our firmness on a scale of 1 to 10. Worth noting: It doesn’t support large and tall sleepers as well as other mattresses, so if you fall into that category, you might opt for a mattress that ranks well for your size in our mattress ratings. Purple allows you to return its mattresses 100 days from delivery.

Serta
We see that Amazon.com is running a number of deals on Serta mattresses, but these mattresses perform in the middle of the pack in our tests, and none of the brand's models are currently recommended.

Sleep Number
Sleep Number is offering a sale on its adjustable air c2 queen-size mattress, which CR has tested—it’ll be $699 instead of $800. The c2 is very firm, and rates a 9 in firmness on a scale of 1 to 10 (again, 10's the firmest). Another promotion: "buy one, get one 50 percent off" on pillows. Its also selling its Limited Edition Bed, usually $4,900, at half price. In our Mattress Brands and Retailers 2016 Winter Survey, CR subscribers rated Select Comfort's Sleep Number mattresses highly for both comfort and support. Sleep Number also allows you to return its mattresses 100 days from delivery, but you'll incur the price for return shipping.

Voila
The discounts continue throughout the holiday season here. Voila is advertising $150 off its mattresses until Tuesday, November 21. Then, the discount grows to $200 off from Wednesday, November 22 (the day before Thanksgiving) through Monday, November 30 (Cyber Monday). After that, it’s $150 off again until New Years Eve. It could be a good opportunity to purchase Voila’s queen-size hybrid innerspring mattress, typically priced at $1,200, which we found supports all sleep styles and sizes. Similar to the GhostBed, Voila allows you to return its mattress within 100 days of delivery, but only after you've slept on it for a required 30 days.

WinkBeds
Wink and you'll miss it: WinkBeds is offering a $100 discount code for shoppers when they arrive on the WinkBeds website. We've tested the WinkBed queen-size innerspring mattress, which retails for around $1,300. Side sleepers of all sizes and petite and average back sleepers will find this mattress comfortable. If you're not satisfied with the WinkBed, they'll arrange to have the mattress picked up for free within the first 101 days, but not before you've slept on it for the first 30.
