Acura's new, third-generation RDX impressed us on our test track and on the road. It has agile handling, a powerful turbocharged engine, a modern interior, and standard advanced safety features. But Acura missed the mark with the RDX’s annoyingly complex controls. In addition, we are not enthusiastic about the luxury compact SUV's fuel economy.

Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2019 Acura RDX owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

In-car Electronics

CD or DVD players, radio, speakers, GPS, communication system (e.g., OnStar), display screen freezes or goes blank, phone pairing (e.g. Bluetooth), voice control commands, steering wheel controls, portable music device interface (e.g., iPod/MP3 player), backup or other camera/sensors.

What Owners Say

Android Auto

"Not user friendly, difficult to determine how to use or find resolution. Confusing."

Anonymous, TX (2019 Acura RDX A-Spec 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Android play was not available until 14 months after purchase due to new touchpad system"

Anonymous, (2019 Acura RDX Advance 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"It just does not work with all the apps. The touch and controls are different from normal"

Anonymous, OH (2019 Acura RDX Tech 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"When purchased, Apple system was in place. Dealer promised Android Auto very soon. 5 months later it was added."

Anonymous, NM (2019 Acura RDX Tech 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
Apple CarPlay

"After a few months CarPlay would stop working after about 5 minutes. I think it had something to do with iOS updates. Between iOS updates and Acura software updates I was able to do myself it is working well now."

Anonymous, IL (2019 Acura RDX A-Spec 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"I bought the car primarily because it offered Apple CarPlay. The day I bought the car, both Bluetooth and CarPlay were dropping their connection and Bluetooth couldn't connect with my directory. After rebooting the infotainment system a couple times, Bluetooth seemed to work ok. However, it took 1 1/2 years of firmware updates and constant denials from Acura before CarPlay seemed to stabilize. It seems to be working ok since the last firmware update earlier this year, but this is my last Acura. Along with many other owners, I tired of Acura denying there was a problem."

Anonymous, MD (2019 Acura RDX Advance 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"The infotainment system freezes and it goes blank. It seems to be related to Apple car play. This also affects the steering wheel controls occasionally. Acura's only solution was to do a hard reset of the system which did not solve the problem."

Anonymous, (2019 Acura RDX Advance 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"It simply would not function"

Anonymous, NC (2019 Acura RDX A-Spec 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Apple CarPlay has not ever worked correctly with the 2019 RDX since I leased it new. There have been various problems, but now Apple CarPlay will only work for about 5 - 10 minutes before it simply quits. It won't work again until the car has been turned on and off"

Anonymous, CA (2019 Acura RDX Tech 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"The Apple Car Play feature is very finicky. Sometimes it connects and sometimes it doesn't. For example, it will not connect properly using Google maps, but it will connect using Waze. If I enter a destination on my phone, and then plug the phone into CarPlay, the destination disappears and I have to enter it again. The hands-free calling feature doesn't hear my voice accurately and calls the wrong number half the time."

Anonymous, (2019 Acura RDX Tech 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"The Apple Car Play doesn't always work. we have had a full replacement of the motherboard for the infotainment system under warranty and that only partially addressed the issues. Acura has had issues with this system and continues to send updates to download."

Anonymous, IL (2019 Acura RDX Base 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Apple car play dropped all the time for the first 13 months. A software fix was downloaded in Jan 2020"

Anonymous, MO (2019 Acura RDX Base 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"doesnt work at all,...hasnt worker in a year,..just havent had time to fix it."

Anonymous, FL (2019 Acura RDX Base 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"When using CarPlay the system occasionally completely freezes. No media of any kind (FM, XM, CarPlay) will work. I have to turn off the car and restart to get the infotainment system to work. This made my long commute intolerable. A small percentage of time the system would remain on even after the car was turned off requiring me to pull the battery or fuse (the dealer recommended solution!). There have been several software updates for the car which has helped but not complexity eliminated the problem. Very frustrating."

Anonymous, (2019 Acura RDX Tech 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Apple CarPlay consistently disconnects whether actively using an app or just in standby mode. This is annoying when playing music, but is disastrous when it drops out in the middle of navigation apps. I’m in an unfamiliar area searching for a location and the app drops out and leaves my driving blind. Now I have to pull over and either switch to a Bluetooth connection with no on screen maps or input the address into the cars nav system, which is not very accurate or fast. That’s why I prefer the CarPlay nav apps."

Anonymous, MD (2019 Acura RDX Advance 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"The system froze and all entertainment and NAV systems were inoperable. The NAV screen also stayed on, even after the car was turned off. The dealer reloaded the software but I'm not convinced that the problem won't recur."

Anonymous, NY (2019 Acura RDX Advance 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"It will sometimes disconnect but the phone thinks it is still on a call so the audio system stops from playing"

Alan G., CA (2019 Acura RDX Advance 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Frequent disconnecting and reconnecting with my iPhone when connected with Apple brand cable. Wife doesn't have problem with her iPhone. I have a newer iPhone XS vs my wife's X. Acura suggested a complete reset of the infotainment system that I have yet to do as it requires resetting favorites and settings."

Nicholas B., MA (2019 Acura RDX Base 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"The entertainment system is very glitchy and on multiple occasions and blacked out completely, leaving me with no radio, no clock, no navigation, the screen was completely blank."

Cassandra R., SC (2019 Acura RDX Tech 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Sometimes the Apple Car Play doesn't connect when plugged in. I have to unplug the usb cord from the vehicle them plug it back in. Sometimes that helps sometimes it doesn't."

Maggie B., TX (2019 Acura RDX Tech 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
CD player

"there is NO CD PLAYER in this vehicle. Had I realised this I PROBABLY would not have leased it!!!"

John P., ON (2019 Acura RDX Tech 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
Display screen freezes up

"This started a few weeks after purchasing the vehicle and has now finally been fixed by a software update. Today the infotainment system is stable and while I question the true-touch touchpad the integration with Android Auto works well and I am generally happy with it. My one complaint is that Acura sold this car for over 16 months with the Infotainment in such a poor state. Almost once a month it would freak out and I would have to turn off the car and let it sit for a few hours to reset before it would work again. That is not acceptable for a Kia let alone a brand that considers themselves to be a luxury."

Anonymous, SC (2019 Acura RDX Advance 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"The display screen will freeze and there is no way to fix it except stopping the car, turning the engine off, waiting 5-10 minutes and then turning the engine back on."

Anonymous, (2019 Acura RDX Advance 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"The display screen froze up about 6 months ago and would not shut off even when I turned the car off and wore my battery completely down. I had to call Acura complimentary towing and have them jump start the car. Haven't had a problem since."

Anonymous, MI (2019 Acura RDX A-Spec 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"The display screen often takes 3-5 minutes before it even loads while I am driving. Usually by the time the controls are visible, I am on the road and can't take my eyes off the road to enter my choices."

Anonymous, (2019 Acura RDX Tech 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"audio went completely off and screen went blank"

Anonymous, NJ (2019 Acura RDX Advance 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Display screen froze up, and did not affect driveability. Called the dealer, made appointment to bring car in, but the problem resolved itself, may have been an automatic software/firmware update."

Anonymous, WI (2019 Acura RDX Advance 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"It flashes between dark and light. Every time it flashes it tells you that you cannot change drive modes."

Anonymous, OH (2019 Acura RDX Tech 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Display info was not loading properly, could not use infotainment system and safety warning features were not operable, display screen just showed loading icon"

Anonymous, NJ (2019 Acura RDX Base 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"This is a recurring problem. The first occurrence resulted in our two seek old vehicle being the service dept. having our vehicle for twenty four days, with no repairs being made due to the inability to recreate the problem. The second occasion occurred ten days later and we immediately visited the dealership we purchased from. The service dept. was closed so the vehicle was logged in for repair and we were provided a loaner. Supposedly an update to the operating system was downloaded and it was repaired. It occurred yet again four weeks later. Back to the dealership the following day, but again they could not recreate the problem and we picked the car up that evening. The most recent occurrence was six weeks ago. We drove the vehicle to a different dealership, recommended by a friend who knew the service manager. She was very helpful and was well aware of the problem we were experiencing. She had a technician take a lengthy report from us, to gather as much information regarding our experiences. He then took the vehicle and downloaded information from the system. He rebooted the computer and downloaded an update. We have not experienced another episode since. The service manager has contacted us several times to check on our vehicle and to update us on what Acura has found. She was very honest in telling us Acura is very well aware of the problem as it seems to quite prevalent with the RDX."

Maria F., IL (2019 Acura RDX Tech 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Has issues with accessing USB music"

Robert S., OK (2019 Acura RDX Tech 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Voice commands will freeze up the info system. Slow to start up until the car has been drive for more than 5 minutes. If it freezes up you stop the car, turn off the engine and restart."

Marc E., MI (2019 Acura RDX Tech 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"The display screen does freeze up occasionally while I'm driving when I switch from SirusXM radio to the USB stick containing music. It eventually does unfreeze but it's just slow and a pain."

Edward B., CA (2019 Acura RDX A-Spec 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
Display screen goes blank

"The in-dash infotainment system failed twice in the 6 months I've had the vehicle. My concern is that if the underlying software decides to shut down electronic subsystems, it might shut down the important systems in a fully drive-by-wire vehicle, The first repair was a general system reset performed by the dealer. The second repair involved a full check of the electrical system and at least a replacement battery that was not putting out full power"

Anonymous, NY (2019 Acura RDX Advance 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Information radio screen would not turn on. Problem was intermittent. Once I removed USB cord problem stopped"

Anonymous, (2019 Acura RDX Base 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"I had problems on several occasions with the infotainment system going blank or freezing up and nothing would work on it the radio went dead navigation went dead Etc the dealer was able to correct the problem with a reboot of the entire system"

Anonymous, MO (2019 Acura RDX Unsure 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Infotainment screen and dashboard digital information goes blank making it impossible to see speed, GPS, other controls. Vehicle currently at dealership so they can attempt to figure out what is wrong."

Akua P., FL (2019 Acura RDX Advance 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"The info screen went to just snow. The cameras were visible on the screen when the car was in reverse but nothing was visible when the car was in Park or Drive."

Anonymous, WA (2019 Acura RDX Advance 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Screen went black about 5 times since ownership. Resolved itself once car was restarted or after driving for several minutes."

Nicholas B., MA (2019 Acura RDX Base 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"The display screen went blank the day we bought the vehicle. We were told this was due to a software issue and would be corrected by simply updating the operating system. We were given a loaner vehicle to use in order for us to grab dinner while they addressed the software update. We returned ninety minutes later and the car was ready. We had a second and final experience with the display going blank, but it restored itself by simply turning the car off and restarting it."

Maria F., IL (2019 Acura RDX Tech 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
External music device interface (e.g., smart phone, MP3 player)

"I think when iPhone is plugged in, system often doesn't recognize it and car play will disappear for 30 min or so and then suddenly reconnect. Also terrible static at times from radio"

Anonymous, IL (2019 Acura RDX Tech 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
Hardware replacement

"problems with gps/navigation, and radio was not working. amplifier was changed and to date issue resolved no cuurent issues"

Anonymous, NC (2019 Acura RDX Advance 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Several instances of infotainment system completely not working, meaning blank screen, no radio, no nav, nothing. Acura eventually replaced the whole system and now it seems to work fine."

Anonymous, SC (2019 Acura RDX Tech 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"The entertainment system experienced problems with a snapping sound. This caused the software not to load for infotainment system. Four visits and two hardware replacements fixed the problems"

Anonymous, MN (2019 Acura RDX Tech 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"I spilled a cup of coffee on the infotainment system keypad. Its functioning became impaired. It could not be repaired And the full unit had to be replaced."

Anonymous, NJ (2019 Acura RDX Tech 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
In-dash navigation system (GPS)

"Simply put - the navigation system database is ancient and fairly useless. I seldom use it, preferring GPS apps on my iPhone. They are faster and way more accurate! On top of that, it's voice recognition feature is useless. Speak as slowly and clearly as you want and it's to no avail most times. It takes forever to find an address when typed/written in and then the route is not efficient. The one thing I like about it - head up display directions, is useless because I never use the system! Oh yeah, and it doesn't store destinations in a directory like my old GPS on my 2009 Acura TL. Yep, a step backwards."

Anonymous, MD (2019 Acura RDX Advance 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Too many bugs..."

Anonymous, (2019 Acura RDX Advance 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Took a trip to Buffalo New York and the navigation system routed the most direct route from Michigan thru Canada to Buffalo and worked perfectly. On the return trip home, the navigation system wanted to take us 170 miles out of our way thru the American side instead of the more direct Canadian route."

Anonymous, MI (2019 Acura RDX A-Spec 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"in dash navigation system is unusable due to it's design"

Anonymous, NV (2019 Acura RDX Advance 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

Anonymous, FL (2019 Acura RDX Advance 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Terrible and inaccurate. Very frustrating and always wrong, It also went through a spell where it had incorrectly in a different state. This was fixed by dealership"

Anonymous, CA (2019 Acura RDX Advance 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"The maps in the navy system were 1 year old when I bought it. Acura has never updated them, and there doesn't appear to be an update coming."

Anonymous, ON (2019 Acura RDX Tech 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"The navigation system is hard to set. Often it does not understand the location I am asking for. I have had to use WAVs sometimes because I could not get through to the navigation system. I also do not trust the directions it gives. Just yesterday it took me three tries before the navigation system accepted an address and it then sent me 9 miles away from where I wanted to go."

William H., FL (2019 Acura RDX Advance 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"System is unnecesarily complex. The previous system on my old MDX was easier to use."

Anonymous, VA (2019 Acura RDX Advance 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"does not work as advertized"

Ken L., NC (2019 Acura RDX 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"1. The driving directions on the heads up display do not always replicate the directions on the navigation screen. Some of the previous turn and some of the next turn display on the heads up display. 2. On the turn-by-turn listing when there are several pages of directions, often when scrolling to different pages the system jumps back to the top of the first page without clicking on the up button."

Anonymous, PA (2019 Acura RDX Advance 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Track pad makes the car dangerous. Forces driver to look at screen. Entering Navigation is beyond cumbersome"

Anonymous, IL (2019 Acura RDX Advance 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"The driver can put in a number of different addresses, but you have no place to list who's address it is. Also, using voice controls to put in an address normally fails."

Phone pairing (e.g., Bluetooth)

"Phone (android) was working fine over bluetooth for calls, until Android Auto was activated (via over-the-air update). Then when trying to make a call, it fails and I get an error about an iPhone being incompatible (I don't have an iPhone)."

Anonymous, CT (2019 Acura RDX Tech 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"My wife's new iphone won't pair with the bluetooth system in the car. Additionally, the automatic seat settings rarely work properly"

Timothy N., NC (2019 Acura RDX Tech 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Error message on infotainment screen will state something like no device connected but I'm happily listening to music being streamed from the phone via Bluetooth. Happens about once a month even after the latest patch."

Anonymous, BC (2019 Acura RDX Tech 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
Radio

"Speaker went inoperable"

Anonymous, (2019 Acura RDX Advance 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"In general, the infotainment system is a cluster fuck. There is no other way to put it. Often, as in every week, I'll have a trip where I pull away from the driveway and the radio (usually FM but sometime AM) does not turn on until several minutes later. I initially thought it was temperature related but it is not. Acura has now "installed" Android Auto in the vehicle via over the air update. That went fairly smoothly. However, the user interface for the Android Auto screens require using the touch pad to scroll the cursor to the button position. This is in contrast to every other function of the infotainment screen outside of Android Auto utilizing the touch pad as a 1 to 1 positional user interface. Sooooo confusing and DISTRACTING. Other times I get an error message saying my phone is not connected but I have music streaming from my phone to the system. There are several variations of this theme. I must say.... the sound system is the best I have ever had in any vehicle, owned or rented. That's the radio\infotainment system - I'd love to tell you about my hesitation on acceleration issues that may be related to the current class action lawsuit against Honda-Acura, but that is definitely a separate issue."

Anonymous, BC (2019 Acura RDX Tech 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Sometimes there is so much static that I cannot hear radio"

Anonymous, IL (2019 Acura RDX Tech 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"When first starting the car the radio system will freeze the screen for several minutes during which time you can not change stations. You change the stations by using their pad mouse system and it sometimes is very fussy and you can not get the right station"

Anonymous, FL (2019 Acura RDX Advance 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Multiple problems with infotainment system that are now the subject of a class action lawsuit against Honda."

Anonymous, NM (2019 Acura RDX Tech 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Radio takes too long to load on screen Radio turns on after shutting off"

Ken K., NY (2019 Acura RDX Advance 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Radio Not Found Error message displayed on the infotainment system after starting the car up. Initially, it may have taken several minutes and switching to Bluetooth music and back to activate the radio OR after several minutes it required the car to be shut off, doors opened, and then restarted to activate the radio. Somewhat ameliated by an OTA patch but it continues to this day, just less often and for not as long a time period before the radio finds it way back to the infotainment system. Still NO Android Auto <<< this makes me very Grumpy."

Anonymous, BC (2019 Acura RDX Tech 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Long delay (up to 5') in tuning to Sirius Xm, switches back to Xm when tuned to FM while giving me message that no Fm reception available."

Anonymous, NM (2019 Acura RDX Tech 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Same issue with replacement—it takes too long for radio to start and then load software"

Gregory B., FL (2019 Acura RDX A-Spec 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"The radio is very difficult to change to wanted stations. The touchpad is not easy to use."

John P., ON (2019 Acura RDX Tech 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Sometimes all the audio - radio, Sirius XM, phone. stops working altogether and nothing seems to fix it except turning off the car, then restarting it."

Maggie B., TX (2019 Acura RDX Tech 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"After several software updates the radio will not pair up with Sirius radio unless the power is turned off and then back on the radio. This is an annoying daily inconvenience"

Anonymous, NY (2019 Acura RDX Tech 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"won't change stations easily"

Ken L., NC (2019 Acura RDX 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Our previous car was a Ford Flex. We could have many different radio stations, both AM and FM. With this car we have 12, and Acura dealer called this adequate."

Victor M., FL (2019 Acura RDX Advance 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Experienced a couple of problems with the radio beside the fact that presets are not readily accessible when using Navigation. First is the radio app on the steering wheel does not populate the saved favorites when you first pull it up. You must open it multiple times before it populates our favorites so you can select one to change the channel. Next the arrow feature on the steering wheel used to select the next station in your favorite listings generally returns an error message that the function is not available. Maybe 10% of the time it will work properly. I reported this information to the dealer and they just tell me to install the latest software updates. I have kept them up to date and the problems still exist. I have owned Acura’s for over 10 years. The new RDX has the most advanced features I’ve seen but the software/firmware has way too many bugs. It is discouraging because the car runs well."

"The software update system needs to be updated itself. The light that indicates an update is available comes on regularly and when you go to get the update (I use Wi-Fi in my driveway) it says none is available. I've only had 1 update in a year of ownership AND the dealer said when I purchased the vehicle that an update giving me Android Auto was coming soon .. it never came."

Brakes

Antilock system (ABS), parking brake, master cylinder, calipers, rotors, pulsation or vibration, squeaking, brake failure or wear.

What Owners Say

Parking brake

"My electronic brake hold releases when the engine idle stop feature restarts the engine. Occasionally at a traffic stop, the car will be stopped and electronically braked and the engine off. When the engine restarts, the car begins moving forward because the brake hold feature releases. This almost caused me to rear end a car a couple of times before I realized I couldn’t trust the brake hold feature."

Anonymous, MD (2019 Acura RDX Advance 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
Premature brake wear

"braking was not sharp enough. No particular specific problem"

Anonymous, (2019 Acura RDX Unsure 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Brakes and rotors had to be changed after 1500 miles. Brakes are currently grinding at 8250 miles. Acura has acknowledged an issue with the brakes but has not yet come up with a solution"

Anonymous, NY (2019 Acura RDX Tech 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
Pulsation or vibration

"Auto was brought back to dealer twice to have rotors and brake pads replaced"

Anonymous, NY (2019 Acura RDX Tech 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
Rotors

"Rotors on this car were of a new design. Took car to dealer they replaced all the rotors and this solved the problem."

Anonymous, RI (2019 Acura RDX Advance 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
Squeaking

"The brakes began squealing as soon as it got under 50 degrees F and only stops after being driven for 20+ minutes. This is a common and known issue that Honda/Acura haven't found a fix for. The car actually sounds like a 40 year old school bus sometimes when stopping. The local dealer tried the suggested fix but let me know in advance that it wasn't likely going to work and then just threw their hands in the air leaving me with the problem. It seems like it should be a minor issue but it is so frustrating to pull out of the house in the morning and listen to this horrible squealing noise that I have considered getting rid of the car."

Body Integrity

Squeaks, rattles, wind noises, loose or cracked seals and/or weather-stripping, air and water leaks.

What Owners Say

Seals and/or weather-stripping

"The door seals were so cheap compared to the 2014 MDX. Occured within 8 month of purchase; The rear passenger doors bottom/foot level seals torn. Didn't occur with MDX 2014 Not covered by extended warranty which was promoted as covering this type of problem."

Anonymous, (2019 Acura RDX Unsure 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"The first time I used the tailgate, the weather stripping/gasket around the entire right side of the door was falling off the frame. I took it into dealer service for repair. They had none in stock and took over a month to get it."

Anonymous, NM (2019 Acura RDX Tech 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
Squeaks or rattles

"Car sounds like a creaky old mattress over bumps and dips...well known problem with front lower control arms. Acura has updated the design of the part several times with little to no success (I believe currently on revision 5 of the part). I've yet to bring mine in for new parts because of the difficulty in reliably reproducing/proving the noise, unproven success of new parts fixing the problem, and unwillingness to have a shop take anything apart on the suspension (and expect no additional issues caused)."

Anonymous, CT (2019 Acura RDX Tech 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

Electric System

Alternator, starter, hybrid battery and related systems, regular battery, battery cables, engine harness, coil, ignition switch, electronic ignition, distributor or rotor failure, spark plugs and wires failure.

What Owners Say

Cruise control

"The adaptive cruise control is dangerous in multi-lane traffic, I've experienced loss of throttle control that caused a dangerous situation around other cars."

H C., ON (2019 Acura RDX Tech 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Adaptive cruise control will wait until the very last moment to decelerate when approaching a vehicle and then vigorously apply the brakes to match speed. When traffic clears it will perform near 'full throttle' acceleration back to the set speed versus a more gradual acceleration."

Richard T., MI (2019 Acura RDX Advance 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
Headlights

"LED for daytime running light failed. No problem with headlights. Dealer replaced headlight assembly and there has been no problems since."

Chris G., FL (2019 Acura RDX Advance 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"The car has automatic hi-beam control. It worked well the first few weeks I had it and then has worked less than 5% of the time since then."

Douglas D., MI (2019 Acura RDX Advance 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
Heated or cooled seats

"Amount of seat cooling seems to gry, doesn't always seem to be working."

Anonymous, TX (2019 Acura RDX A-Spec 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"The heated seats have a mind of their own, constantly turning themselves on when I don't want them to. even when there is no one sitting in the passenger seat. All this even though the owner's manual warns about over use of the heated seats in cold weather. I don't like stuff that turns itself on."

H C., ON (2019 Acura RDX Tech 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

Climate System

Blower (fan) motor, A/C compressor, condenser, evaporator, heater system, automatic climate control, refrigerant leakage, electrical failure.

What Owners Say

Automatic climate control

"Now that the warmer temperatures are coming we find that the air conditioner does not seem to be working properly. Have not been able to contact dealer about possible repairs"

Anonymous, BC (2019 Acura RDX Advance 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"System never gets cold.. Had the dealer flush the system, but the temperature never gets comfortable in the cabin area."

Bob S., MO (2019 Acura RDX Advance 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
Heater system

"Heater was not working on passenger side and dealer had to fix a gear in the system that was a problem from the factory. At the present time it seems that the air conditioner is not working properly."

Anonymous, BC (2019 Acura RDX Advance 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"The automatic climate control system would always blow hot air on the driver but cold air on the front and rear seat passengers."

Exhaust

Muffler, pipes, catalytic converter, exhaust manifold, leaks.

What Owners Say

Other/unsure

"This car is fraught with some many problems, it’s hard to just select one. The most annoying problem is with the automatic steering. More often than not, it will not follow even a gentle curve. I’ve had it back to the dealer three time regarding this problem and each time they are unable to correct it. They keep making excuses for the problem, telling me that the white lane markers need to be clear, no bad weather, sunny day, etc. Just to prove the problem was as I described, I actually put up a You Tube video depicting this problem. The video was taken on a sunny day, on a brand-new stretch of freeway, with new lane markings. The You Tube video is, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PiRBnh5MHa4. The system is so poor, that I wouldn’t dare rely on it, even for a few seconds. Like so many other technology items on this car, it is nearly useless! What really bothers me is the fact that I paid for this option, expecting it to work. If they can’t deliver, then don’t offer the option, or don’t charge for it. I don’t feel like being a beta tester for Acura’s new products, at my expense! This is one of many problems with the technology on this car. I've owned nearly 2-dozen cars so far in my lifetime and I've never seen one this poorly engineered. I'm probably going to wind up selling it within the next couple of months. I WOULD NEVER BUY ANOTHER ACURA! I would strongly advise anyone considering purchasing this vehicle, look else ware, especially if you’re interested in modern car-tech!"

Joel H., IL (2019 Acura RDX Advance 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Compared to any other car I’ve driven over the last four years, I’ve never seen a blind spot monitoring system as useless and downright dangerous, as the one on the 2019 Acura RDX. In every other car, (BMW, Volvo and Mercedes) I’ve driven, the blind spot indicators come on when the passing car is at least 2 – 3 car lengths behind me. With the RDX the blind spot indicator light doesn’t come on until the front end of the passing car is nearly inline with the “B” pillar on my car. If I had to rely on the indicator in an emergency situation, where I had to quickly change lanes, I could very well hit the passing car without realizing they had already passed my rear bumper. I would NEVER trust the blind spot indicators on this car. They are downright dangerous!"

Transmission Minor

Gear selector or linkage, leaks, transmission computer, transmission sensor or solenoid, clutch adjustment, rough shifting, slipping transmission.

What Owners Say

Rough shifting

"The transmission, for no apparent reason goes into a very rough shipping aka "limp - home" mode and sometimes it goes away or if I can I stop and tun the car off and restart the car to "reset" the whatever caused the problem."

Anonymous, NY (2019 Acura RDX Advance 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"for no apparent reason the transmission switches into sport mode or a manual limp-home mode. In order to correct the problem, I have to turn off the engine and restart it."

"At 60 mph abrupt transmission shift, mechanical linkage. Dealer said needs a software update, but no update on software available."

Jim T., TN (2019 Acura RDX Tech 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

Engine Major

Engine rebuild or replacement, cylinder head, head gasket, turbo or supercharger, timing chain or timing belt.

What Owners Say

Turbo or supercharger

"Passing a truck I accelerated hard and the turbo failed to kick in and at the same moment all propulsion power stopped. About 40 degrees and constant rain outside. Stop engine light came on, I coasted to shoulder and discovered engine was still running but car assumed creep mode which propelled the car 3-4 MPH ONLY. Car was hauled 133 miles to Acura dealer and left for diagnosis and repair. Initially dealer claim nothing was wrong! After I refused that answer the service manager consulted Regional Acura Tech support who acknowledged this apparently same failure has occurred 4 or 5 times on 2019 ACURA RDX under similar circumstances, namely accelerating hard (usually when passing) and when conditions were wet. Also volunteered that some turbo equipped recent model Honda's experienced similar failures. This is extremely, even fatally dangerous. Notwithstanding the fact that the dealer replaced a number of turbocharger related at Acura expense, they never acknowledged any specific reason for loss of power or offered any assurance that the failure would not recur. I plan to replace this Acura with another vehicle that I can drive with safety and confidence. It won't be an Acura. Too bad, because I really like the car but refuse to trust it any more."

Anonymous, CT (2019 Acura RDX Base 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"We purchased our 2019 RDX Advance new. The engine started making a whistling sound about 2500 miles into driving. The dealer has not been able to fix the sound. They have alluded to the sound coming from the turbo, but have not fixed it. The sound does not exist on any of the loaner cars they gave us of the same make/model/year. They refuse to fix the problem and are telling us to bring the car back if the sound gets louder. We have also had the car in the shop already for brake issues (brakes are making strange sounds, they have not fixed this either and claim that they represent no safety issues) and for suspension issues (front driver-side suspension was creaking when going over bumps in the road, they fixed the suspension). We have owned the car for under six months."
