Many BMW purists are lamenting the, well, softening of the automaker's "Ultimate Driving Machine" edict in favor of more comfort, luxury, and technology in recent models. In most cases, we feel the automaker has achieved a good balance between performance and livability, but, yes, certain models are missing that razor-sharp handling edge we'd grown to expect.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

What Owners Say

"Excellent "road feel", acceleration in mid-range 40 - 80 mph is particularly effective and a safety factor for passing."

Anonymous, NM (2017 BMW 2 Series)

"I bought the M240i instead of the M2 because it was supposed to be a better daily driver. Even in comfort suspension mode it rides like a buckboard on rough roads."

Steve K., OR (2017 BMW 2 Series)

"The worry I had going to this vehicle was the move to electric power steering, mainly because of the bad press. Turns out the steering is wonderful, a real improvement over the older systems. We also ordered this car without run flat tires, this also turned out to be a very good move, the car rides and handles much better than our expectation."

Robert L., BC (2017 BMW 2 Series)

"It's a rocket!"

Anonymous, CO (2017 BMW 2 Series)

"Nimble; tight turning radius; great acceleration and responsive"

Pedro G., TX (2017 BMW 2 Series)

"One fine car"

Donald S., CT (2017 BMW 2 Series)

"I am amazed at the performance this car delivers from a four cylinder engine. The driving experience in this car is significantly different from my previous 2006 3 series BMW, so it has taken some time to get used to. The 3 series was a manual so the new auto transmission in the 2 series and the new power steering have been the main changes which took time to learn. Once I got used to the new systems I do enjoy this vehicle more than the old 3 series."

Anonymous, BC (2017 BMW 2 Series)

"Total joy to drive! Wonderful car and I'm very happy with my purchase of this vehicle."

Jonathan S., CA (2017 BMW 2 Series)

"Best handling car I have owned, enchanted joy of driving due to manual gear shift."

Anonymous, NM (2017 BMW 2 Series)

"Smooth linear acceleration. Good turn in."

Anonymous, PA (2017 BMW 2 Series)

"This is the best handling car I have owned, and it accelerates very well. I've driven similar M240s on a track, and I love them."

Abraham E., NJ (2017 BMW 2 Series)

"handles very well, surprised by the good fuel economy"

Anonymous, AZ (2017 BMW 2 Series)

"Corners well. Great acceleration m240"

Anonymous, CA (2017 BMW 2 Series)

"Lively acceleration. Feels faster than it is. Pushes you back into the seat hard."

Anonymous, CA (2017 BMW 2 Series)

"I use the car on the track,"Track Days" as well as my daily driver. Low and mid range acceleration is excellent. Top end does fall off after 6000 rpm. This is only a on track point. Handling is very neutral for the most part with very good turn in. You can make the rear end come around with too much throttle on corner exit. My big complaint is that the steering is numb. You don't really feel the grip through the tires only through the chassis."

Anonymous, IL (2017 BMW 2 Series)

"It's a rocket!"

Anonymous, AZ (2017 BMW 2 Series)

"It accelerates very quickly and handles very well"

Anonymous, GA (2017 BMW 2 Series)

Anonymous, CA (2017 BMW 2 Series)

"the performance is simply awesome in sport mode. The car handles amazingly well as blazing acceleration and is glued to the road."

Anonymous, IL (2017 BMW 2 Series)

"driving experience"

Richard L., NY (2017 BMW 2 Series)

"The car is amazing to drive. It is fast, purrs beautifully, and always makes my day better by putting the top down. I live in the Bay Area and use the convertible at least 5 of 7 days. The connection with the iPhone sucks. It takes a long time for it to connect or pick up. Sometimes when I place calls, it connects but I do not hear anything."

Jeffrey D., CA (2017 BMW 2 Series)

"The BMW 230 I handles beautifully the . Acceleration is crisp even though it has the smaller Four-cylinder engine 30 miles per gallon overall makes owning a sports car feel like a responsible decision"

Anonymous, SC (2017 BMW 2 Series)

"Great handling and love the acceleration, plus it gets almost 30 mpg"

Peter T., CA (2017 BMW 2 Series)

"Acceleration in this car is very quick. That torque and HP in a car this size launches it into passing gear and with the 8 speed transmission, one only has to romp on the accelerator to fly past trucks or cars that are impeding traffic."

Vince N., MO (2017 BMW 2 Series)

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"Marketing materials advertised lumbar support for the power seats, but not included in the delivered car."

William O., NJ (2017 BMW 2 Series)

"Very quiet in terms of road noise, seats are highly adjustable for personal preferences."

Anonymous, NM (2017 BMW 2 Series)

"Excellent back support in seating"

Anonymous, FL (2017 BMW 2 Series)

"Bad rear window visibility"

Anonymous, CA (2017 BMW 2 Series)

"BMW has done an excellent job creating a quiet ride with the tight fit you would expect from a BMW"

Anonymous, SC (2017 BMW 2 Series)

"Worst problem is rear window visibility and lack of side alerts"

Anonymous, CA (2017 BMW 2 Series)

"the seating is quite comfortable and the seats include a fine extender. The ride is adjustable through the onboard system and quite comfortable in comfort mode and stiffer with more control in sport mode."

Anonymous, IL (2017 BMW 2 Series)

"This is a small sports convertible with additional "sports package" (low profile tires, etc). But I am satisfied because I never expected to be as good in this category as a larger sedan. It's the fun factor I was looking for and it has that in spades."

Anonymous, VA (2017 BMW 2 Series)

"We own a convertible. I thought it would be noisy since it was a rag top. I was wrong. It is pleasantly quiet, and the seats form around me. I haven't ever owned a vehicle that was this comfortable. The ride is very nice as it rides through rough rode and is very comfortable yet easy to handle."

Vince N., MO (2017 BMW 2 Series)

"This is the ultimate driving experience"

Donald S., CT (2017 BMW 2 Series)

"Ride could be bit more compliant"

George P., GA (2017 BMW 2 Series)

"Long distance road trips are a joy due to low cabin noise, comfortable seats."

Anonymous, NM (2017 BMW 2 Series)

Value

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

"This is our second BMW, it is 11 years newer than our first. Though very different from our 2006 3 series, this car is a lot of fun to drive and has some very nice improvements over the older car. Clearly BMW has been working hard to add value to their new vehicles."

Robert L., BC (2017 BMW 2 Series)

"got a great price on a great car"

Anonymous, AZ (2017 BMW 2 Series)

"M240i is the most cost efficient of the M series from BMW"
