The Encore is a luxurious subcompact SUV that's a full size smaller than "small" SUVs like the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V. Based on the Chevrolet Sonic, the Buick's overall length is about the size of a Volkswagen Beetle. Tall, short, and narrow, the Encore has ungainly proportions, despite some familiar Buick styling cues like a big chrome grille and portholes on the hood.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Owner Satisfaction with:

Driving Experience

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

"A fun vehicle to drive with plenty of oomph for accelerating on entrance ramps."

Paul B., TN (2017 Buick Encore)

"It gives me a safe feeling to be sitting higher than I did in my Cruze. It feels solid in handling. It’s a little slow on acceleration and also makes a growling noise upon acceleration, meaning it’s a little louder than I’d like. Handling is generally good and responsive."

Diane R., WI (2017 Buick Encore)

"Having had a Buick Ranier, I am surprised to find better acceleration and power, even though the former was a 8 cylinder and now 6 cylinders. I do miss the better turning radius of the Ranier."

Anonymous, NY (2017 Buick Encore)

"Very quiet and comfortable ride; great turn radius; easy to navigate through tight spaces. Handles great in all weather. Engine is a bit underpowered and acceleration is slow/lagging. I do mostly city driving, so acceleration is not much of an issue."

Lori B., PA (2017 Buick Encore)

"Acceleration is great, better than expected. Handling is nice and solid."

Anonymous, MI (2017 Buick Encore)

"Handling is great but acceleration needs more power. I'm not a big fan of the turbo. I'd rather have a v6. Trabsmission needs to be smoother."

Donna C., OK (2017 Buick Encore)

"My biggest complaint is that it is hard to see behind me when switching lanes; with all the freeway driving I do, it happens frequently, and I've been honked at several times (doesn't happen in the Camry)."

W D., CA (2017 Buick Encore)

"The car handles well but acceleration is very slow."

Harry R., NY (2017 Buick Encore)

"I previously owned a Lexus so I might be biased. It seems like when accelerating, on the highway for example, the Encore gets stuck in a gear (occasionally) and no matter how hard I push on the petal it won't go above a speed (EX 55) until I slow down and then speed up again. I think this is unsafe. I should always be able to accelerate without hesitation, not just sometimes."

Nyla G., TX (2017 Buick Encore)

"Acceleration is quite good with the optional DI engine; the stop-start feature is non-intrusive and contributes to outstanding mileage in town."

Anonymous, AL (2017 Buick Encore)

"Nice interior, nice exterior design, lethargic excelleration. Should make the 1.5 turbo in the cruze, standard in the Encore."

Anonymous, PA (2017 Buick Encore)

"The acceleration is not near optimal and far less than available in out 2005 Jeep Liberty, which seems a dichotomy. One can compensate for this lack of immediate acceleration by increasing the thrust given the accelerator, but I would not categorize it as totally pleasing."

Anonymous, AZ (2017 Buick Encore)

"This vehicle couldn`t be any better in handing, like a sports car really........ Acceleration, is about all my wife wants, and it is her car.....For myself, a tad more pickup when on highways would be better......."

Anonymous, ON (2017 Buick Encore)

"Accelerates and handles well. Easy to maneuver in tight places. The backup camera is actually very useful."

Anonymous, MD (2017 Buick Encore)

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"It's really a crummy ride,...."

Anonymous, NC (2017 Buick Encore)

"Almost silent interior when driving."

Thomas C., NY (2017 Buick Encore)

"The buick encore is a great small car, no complaints. very quiet and comfortable."

Jospeh K., PA (2017 Buick Encore)

"Quiet and smooth ride"

Walter G., NY (2017 Buick Encore)

"the seats get real hard on the backside on long trips' could use more padding' also i wish the were ventilated leather instead of plain leather"

Anonymous, OK (2017 Buick Encore)

"It's a great small SUV however it is too narrow. Storage space is too small."

Anonymous, MI (2017 Buick Encore)

"Exactly the same as the 2018 version as I explained earlier."

Andrew P., NY (2017 Buick Encore)

"Good visability, and the feeling of enhanced safty."

Anonymous, NY (2017 Buick Encore)

"Very noisy ride."

Anonymous, NC (2017 Buick Encore)

"Good view elevation and surrounding vision. Quiet ride and comfortable seats."

Robert R., IL (2017 Buick Encore)

"it is quite noisy and the driver's seat to me is uncomfortable. road noise and outside from loud vehicles."

George M., FL (2017 Buick Encore)

"lumbar support"

Anonymous, NY (2017 Buick Encore)

"The seats are comfortable. There is no outside noise that interferes with conversation or music. The ride is smooth and comfortable. The car does not accelerate quickly enough. The cargo space is very limited"

Harry R., NY (2017 Buick Encore)

"J'ai 2 bébés et c'est trop petit avec les coquilles."

Nicolas P., QC (2017 Buick Encore)

"No internal or road noise on normal highway driving."

Carolyn D., MI (2017 Buick Encore)

"acceleration is loud"

Anonymous, WI (2017 Buick Encore)

"seats are very comfortable and the ride is very smooth for a small SUV"

Anonymous, VT (2017 Buick Encore)

"For an SUV-easy to get in & out The right height to give a good view of the road as well as a comfortable seat."

Jeff C., NJ (2017 Buick Encore)

"Not that comfortable. No arm rest for passenger seat."

Anonymous, NY (2017 Buick Encore)

"The interior is very quiet while driving. Ride is smooth and controlled for the type of vehicle it is. Interior finishes are nice and well designed. Nice large center touch screen."

Anonymous, NC (2017 Buick Encore)

"Better ride than previous cars I've owned."

Anonymous, TX (2017 Buick Encore)

"Outstanding quiet and comfort. Makes long drives a joy with far less fatigue."

R S., NC (2017 Buick Encore)

"The Encore is very quiet. The front and passenger seats have power controls to raise and lower the seat--BUT--the seat backs do not lower via power. This function is manual only. The Encore is not inexpensive, so it is very disappointing that the seat backs must be manually adjusted."

Anonymous, FL (2017 Buick Encore)

"Very quiet under all driving conditions; ride is very good without sacrificing handling. Seats are very comfortable, more so than I would expect for a small car."

Anonymous, AL (2017 Buick Encore)

"Drivers seat has limited controls and front edge is raised up cutting into back of legs"

Anonymous, TX (2017 Buick Encore)

"The ride is very smooth and comfortable. The road noise is minimal and the seats are adequately capable of affording good lumbar support, and are not quite capable of achieving the driving height I would prefer, but I am sure it is good for most drivers. The viability is better than that of the Buick Enclave that we owned prior."

Anonymous, AZ (2017 Buick Encore)

"The leather seats are VERY comfortable.......The vehicle is quiet, no road noise.......The ride sporty, the car can turn about, and catch its own tail!!!! The wife LOVES the ease in which it turns, and so easy to park......."

Anonymous, ON (2017 Buick Encore)

"I can hear better in this car, main reason I leased it."

Anonymous, MI (2017 Buick Encore)

"The seat comfort is excellent except for larger occupants. The option for heated steering wheel is excellent. Not to mention, the car is extremely quiet minus some occasional engine noise."

Tom M., NJ (2017 Buick Encore)

Value

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

"At the time, there were tremendous deals on this vehicle including a $2000 non GM leasee credit. In the end, we got a 30,000 mile lease for $68xx total lease payments. For the refinement, interior fit and finish, styling, technology, this is unparalleled and even cheaper than Trax leases or leases for cars costing $10,000 cheaper."

Anonymous, CA (2017 Buick Encore)

"This vehicle is loaded with features and solid construction."

Paul B., TN (2017 Buick Encore)

"Couldn't find a vehicle in this class for the payment we received."

Thomas C., NY (2017 Buick Encore)

"Sales price was $20,000. The car has a lot of capabilities for the sales price."

Anonymous, TX (2017 Buick Encore)

"This car is an excellent value. It is hard to find the capability, options, and reliability for the price point offered. Incentives are often strong on this car as well."

Tom M., NJ (2017 Buick Encore)

"It does NOT have a built in CD player."

Carl C., NC (2017 Buick Encore)

"Affordable with a lot of convenience features."

Robert R., IL (2017 Buick Encore)

"Great fuel economy on both city and highway driving. City average 30 MPG and expressway average 35 MPG."

Carolyn D., MI (2017 Buick Encore)

"Super deal. 290$CAN par mois pour 2 ans."

Nicolas P., QC (2017 Buick Encore)

"nothing"

R P., LA (2017 Buick Encore)

"For me this was a free car! We got $2000 by using the GM credit card, another $450 if we bought or leased by Feb. 28. I pay $99 per month (get reimbursed govt rate from work), which was advertised. Of course, they tried to low-ball me when I went to lease the car, walked out because I didn't need it, and they met the price $2500 down plus the $99 per month. I don't go over 10,000 per year."

W D., CA (2017 Buick Encore)

"I acquired this vehicle on a really great lease deal. I'm not sure how good the value would be if purchasing."

Anonymous, NC (2017 Buick Encore)

"It has all the things that you expect to find in a more expensive suv."

Vincent M., VA (2017 Buick Encore)

"From the list price we were offered a $6000 discount off the top. Costco was doing a promotion with the dealership and the dealership added in the promotional discount and beat it."
