If you still think of Buick as a brand for octogenarians with a taste for whitewall tires and vinyl roof treatments, it's time for a reboot. The Regal is a thoroughly developed and satisfying midsized sports sedan. That European feel is no coincidence, since the Regal is based on a German design from GM’s Opel division.

Reliability

Reliability indicates how models have performed in the past, providing the basis for predicting how the vehicles will hold up in the year ahead. These charts provide the most comprehensive reliability information available to consumers. Based on information received from our latest subscriber survey, our reliability history charts give you a rundown on how used vehicles are holding up in 17 potential trouble spots, ranging from the engine, transmission, and brakes to power equipment and the electrical system.

Reliability indicates how models have performed in the past, providing the basis for predicting how the vehicles will hold up in the year ahead. These charts provide the most comprehensive reliability information available to consumers. Based on information received from our latest subscriber survey for about 329,000 vehicles, our reliability history charts give you a rundown on how 2000 through 2020 vehicles are holding up in 17 potential trouble spots, ranging from the engine, transmission, and brakes to power equipment and the electrical system. NA indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2015 Buick Regal owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

In-car Electronics

CD or DVD players, radio, speakers, GPS, communication system (e.g., OnStar), display screen freezes or goes blank, phone pairing (e.g. Bluetooth), voice control commands, steering wheel controls, portable music device interface (e.g., iPod/MP3 player), backup or other camera/sensors.

What Owners Say

Backup or other camera/sensors

"We purchased this car from Buick dealer. It was previously a leased vehicle before we purchased it. A few weeks after purchase we realized that the backup safety sensors did not work. Took it back to dealership and found out that the leasing company had installed an aftermarket systems that caused this problem. The dealership paid to have the problem repaired."

Jim O., NC (2015 Buick Regal 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
Display screen goes blank

"the whole infotainment system doesn't reset itself as it shoud. Buick told me to bring it in but I fear it is going to be a problem that is going to be fixed but the 50,000 bumper warranty is up in 5,000 more months."

Robert K., NJ (2015 Buick Regal Base 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Was in the city at dentist. When finished with dentist went to my parked car and drove towards home. Usually the screen comes on slowly so I kept driving even though screen was blank at startup. All the way home , maybe 10 miles, screen stayed blank, no speedometer on highway. Got home shut car off, hour later when needed to use car agin everything was fine."

Richard N., NY (2015 Buick Regal GS 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
External music device interface (e.g., smart phone, MP3 player)

"Music and heat/ac change settings on their own. Apparently software/computer glitch."

Anonymous, WI (2015 Buick Regal Base 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
In-dash navigation system (GPS)

"OnStar stopped working three times. After last time, GM came out with dealer notification that module needed to be ordered and replaced. No problems since. Wished problem solved sooner."

Carole T., MN (2015 Buick Regal GS 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
Phone pairing (e.g., Bluetooth)

"Have to disable Bluetooth to get Google Maps voice directions on iPhone 6. Appears to be an Apple iOS issue - sometimes updates fix it, sometimes they break it"

D R., PA (2015 Buick Regal Premium II 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
Radio

"The battery was replaced and afterwards the presets for the satellite stations were not able to be reset."

Anonymous, NJ (2015 Buick Regal)

"I cannot get many stations in Philadelphia and NO stations outside of Philadelphia. Nobody at the dealership knows how to work the radio. The instruction book is totally inadequate"

Alfred Z., PA (2015 Buick Regal Base 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

Body Integrity

Squeaks, rattles, wind noises, loose or cracked seals and/or weather-stripping, air and water leaks.

What Owners Say

Air or water leaks

"After driving several hours on a trip in steady rain when reaching into the glove box to retrieve a small writing tablet noticed is was very wet. Later( several days) Had a local credible repair shop do some type of air pressure test on area around glove box and no leaks were indicated at all? To this day we have not driven in any rain even near incomparison but what rain we have experienced(including car wash) did not cause any further leaks. So far only consider the leak an anomaly but there is no doubt there was a leak of some kind. It was only my wife and I on a 2 day trip and no liquid or liquid container was placed or found in the glove box? I probably should have reported it to the Buick car dealer where I purchased it but checking the warranty that was still valid I could not find anywhere leaks were covered."

Anonymous, KS (2015 Buick Regal Base 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"Water Leak while raining put over an inch of water in trunk and floor of back seat."

Barry F., OH (2015 Buick Regal Base 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
Seals and/or weather-stripping

"Windows and doors have frozen shut after sleet or rain storm, then freezing temperatures, At least one of four doors would open for access (some athleticism required). Windows would not open for drive thru fast food. Car was only washed if immediately garaging where warm, even if thoroughly dried with towels after washing."

Carole T., MN (2015 Buick Regal GS 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
Squeaks or rattles

"Problem #1 is windshield wipers make horrible clunking noise when it rains. If wipers need to be on continuous it is totally gyrating . #2 ...when changing back to my summer tires and wheels the road noise is almost unbearable especially on a highway .. this is my 3rd summer to own the car with these wheels and tires and they previously were not loud like this"

Richard N., NY (2015 Buick Regal GS 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

Paint/Trim

Paint (fading, chalking, cracking, or peeling), loose interior and exterior trim or moldings, rust.

What Owners Say

Headlights

"The headlights are inadequate & subsequently unsafe. I took the car back to my dealer to have them adjusted, but was told that it was a self contained unit. They could replace thembbut not adjust. I did not do this because I was told that the results would be no different. We mostly do not use this car at night. Therefore, although I enjoy the car, I would not get it again. It did teach me to take a test drive at night before buying or leasing any model vehicle in the future"

Steven S., NY (2015 Buick Regal Premium I 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

Fuel System

Check engine light, sensors (includes O2 or oxygen sensor), emission control devices (includes EGR), engine computer, engine computer, fuel cap, fuel gauge/sender, fuel injection system, fuel pump, fuel leaks, stalling or hesitation.

What Owners Say

"Not accurate. Replaced gas tank sending unit under extended warrantee otherwise would have been very expensive. Last Buick had same problem. This Buick problem was way too early of a problem. Apparently still consistent problem w/ Buick."
