As the ATS, CTS, and CT6 all demonstrate, Cadillac can build brilliant-driving sedans. But the brand's SUVs lack the same magic. Built on a new platform, the Cadillac XT5 is a descendant of the SRX but it’s neither here nor there. Battling a field of worthy competitors, the XT5 isn't as rewarding to drive as a German compact luxury SUV, nor does it pamper you like a Lexus RX.

Reliability

Reliability indicates how models have performed in the past, providing the basis for predicting how the vehicles will hold up in the year ahead. These charts provide the most comprehensive reliability information available to consumers. Based on information received from our latest subscriber survey, our reliability history charts give you a rundown on how used vehicles are holding up in 17 potential trouble spots, ranging from the engine, transmission, and brakes to power equipment and the electrical system.

Reliability indicates how models have performed in the past, providing the basis for predicting how the vehicles will hold up in the year ahead. These charts provide the most comprehensive reliability information available to consumers. Based on information received from our latest subscriber survey for about 420,000 vehicles, our reliability history charts give you a rundown on how 2000 through 2019 vehicles are holding up in 17 potential trouble spots, ranging from the engine, transmission, and brakes to power equipment and the electrical system. NA indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2018 Cadillac XT5 owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

In-car Electronics

CD or DVD players, radio, speakers, GPS, communication system (e.g., OnStar), display screen freezes or goes blank, phone pairing (e.g. Bluetooth), voice control commands, steering wheel controls, portable music device interface (e.g., iPod/MP3 player), backup or other camera/sensors.

What Owners Say

Android Auto

"My XT5 requires my cell phone to use driving routes, traffic, etc. It works intermittently. Repairs-trying to solve the problem have been to no avail. The day after I signed the lease, I tried to get out of it but was not permitted by dealership management. So I am stuck with it. I have driven Cadillacs since 1990 and have never experience problems that could not or would not be solved or resolved. This is, most likely, my last Cadillac. I still take advantage of the lease perks available and they have been provided graciously."

Anonymous, FL (2018 Cadillac XT5 Base 3.6-L V6)
Backup or other camera/sensors

"Sometimes when putting transmission in Reverse the guidelines on the backup camera do not appear. This is an intermittent conditon and does not affect the ability to use the backup camera to see behind the vehicle. It seems to only occur on first starting the car and backing from the garage but has happened at other times as well. Again, it does not interfere with the use of the camera, it only affects the guidelines that are not displayed on the display."

Anonymous, DE (2018 Cadillac XT5 Luxury 3.6-L V6)
External music device interface (e.g., smart phone, MP3 player)

"Same as above....it's all connected.(or not(:)."

Anonymous, FL (2018 Cadillac XT5 Base 3.6-L V6)

"random selection did not work correctly"

Michael W., MO (2018 Cadillac XT5 Luxury 3.6-L V6)

Body Integrity

What Owners Say

Squeaks or rattles

"Right rear passenger area"

Anonymous, NJ (2018 Cadillac XT5 Luxury 3.6-L V6)

"Misc. rattles on uneven roads. It’s just not as quiet as I think a $50,000 car should be."

Anonymous, AZ (2018 Cadillac XT5 Luxury 3.6-L V6)

"Rattle appeared to come from rear of car and then only if road is rough (all roads in Michigan are rough)."

R F., MI (2018 Cadillac XT5 Luxury 3.6-L V6)

Drive System

Driveshaft or axle, CV joint, differential, transfer case, 4WD/AWD components, driveline vibration, traction control, electronic stability control (ESC), electrical failure.

Electrical failure

"OCCASIONALLY IT STAYS IN FIRST GEAR FOR TOO LONG UP TO 3000 RPMS DOES NOT SHIFT SMOOTHLY. MY FORD EXPLORER WAS A BETTER VEH. CADDY RIDES ROUGH ON BAD ROADS. OK ON NEW ROAD.. HATE THE GEAR SHIFT LEVER & PARK BUTTON."

John S., PA (2018 Cadillac XT5 Premium 3.6-L V6)
Traction control

"We experienced intermittent activation of the Traction Control/ABS system. Because we weren't getting an error code the dealer was unable to identify the problem and advised that the system was operating normally. After 3 days we got error codes. A connection to a wheel sensor was defective. The components were replaced."

Anonymous, SC (2018 Cadillac XT5 Platinum 3.6-L V6)

Fuel pump

"Dashboard screen engine light went on. The service dealer from Cadillac said it was a faulty fuel pump. I had about 750 miles on the car at that point. The new one they put in at the shop was also defective. I am now driving it with the 3rd one. Only a couple of days, it seems fine. The parking brake light also had originally gone on but hopefully that's been fixed. The car was in the service shop a total of 4 days."

Lawrence F., NY (2018 Cadillac XT5 Platinum 3.6-L V6)
