Chevrolet Bolt Change Vehicle

It used to be that admirers of electric cars who wanted a 200-miles-plus range had to get in line for a Tesla and spend upward of $70,000. The new Chevrolet Bolt changes all that. Don't let the Bolt's mundane appearance deceive you and mask the car's advanced technology.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

What Owners Say

"Very smooth."

Paul M., MI (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Powerful and fun acceleration, limited only by the tires. So easy to "point and shoot" in traffic. I can merge and pass with high confidence."

Eric T., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"replaced the tires"

Patrick C., WI (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Very good acceleration. I especially like the one-pedal driving that allows me to use the accelerator to slow and stop without moving my foot to the brake."

Anonymous, CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"quick and smooth acceleration, fun to drive, love one-pedal driving since I rarely have to use friction brakes, corners well"

Kim D., UT (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"I have owned many cars in my life and the Chevy volt drives better than all of them. Great acceleration, terrific handling.a joy to drive."

Anonymous, PA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Immediate quiet response to the accelerator and moves quickly and easily through traffic."

Anonymous, MD (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Ride and acceleration are very good. The acceleration makes his car Stand out."

Ron M., MN (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Excellent acceleration, good handling around corners."

Anonymous, CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Great acceleration. Great range. Good driving experience."

Anonymous, VA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

Lance M., FL (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Quick, stable, excellent visibility and power mode is effective."

Glen S., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Great acceleration and handling."

David E., CT (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"The instant torque from the electric powertrain is intoxicating. Despite the narrow tires handling is quite nimble."

Steve W., OR (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"I am very surprised by the acceleration: the Chevrolet Bolt is no slouch; and turning radius of the Chevrolet Bolt in tight spots. There is plenty of room inside the cabin. Windows placed differently allow one to see better--a big safety feature. And of course, it is very quiet inside the cabin."

Walter R., IL (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"The driving experience with respect to acceleration and handling is EXCELLENT, beyond expectations. The car responds very quickly and easily. It handles faster and better than almost every ICE (internal combustion engine) car on the road."

Mike M., MN (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Acceleration is excellent and steering wheel braking is very useful on hills. Not being able to turn on camera view when traveling at speeds over 5mph is sometimes annoying."

D T., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"No hesitation, no engine roar, quick acceleration, precise handling."

G K., NC (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Excellent acceleration & handling & visibility with the various sensors."

Robert H., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"It is a surprisingly wonderful driving car. It accelerates very quickly and is extremely responsive. The brakes take some getting used to and could be a bit more responsive. All in all, we are extremely pleased with the driving experience."

Anonymous, CT (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Great handling; excellent acceleration"

Michael W., CT (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Excellent acceleration."

Anonymous, VA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"It's not exactly a sports car, but it accelerates fast enough to do anything you would want to do, as well as slams you back into your seat hard enough to just barely be uncomfortable if you're flooring it, so you really don't want it faster. It handles great as it's CG is low to the ground due to the batteries. This provides great cornering and amazing control and you never feel you're going to lose grip on the road or control of the vehicle."

David B., DE (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Acceleration and handling are better than many sports cars I’ve owned."

Anonymous, NM (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"One pedal driving in "L" is the best part of the Bolt. And the fact that it is an electric car. I will never buy a gasoline or diesel powered vehicle again, never!"

Dana H., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Very quick acceleration and great driving experience"

Anonymous, CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"SUPER acceleration due to instant torque with electric motors, no heat comes off the car in the summer (can't even describe what a difference THAT makes), and the battery under the floor provides a low center of gravity for decent handling. The stock tires are terrible: no traction whatsoever, but they are self-sealing and low rolling resistance, so replacing them with a better tire is a challenge I have not solved yet. Any better handling tire might not be self-sealing or run-flat, and may adversely impact range."

David M., NJ (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Drove all winter in Minnesota weather. Traction was excellent though snow drifts, for a small car. Ride is comparable to a larger car. 240 miles per charge range in summer is excellent (winter range drops by about a third. Even sub-zero Fahrenheit still yielded around 165 mile range). The one weakness is that, unlike Tesla’s Supercharger network, the Bolt battery depends on private charging companies while traveling intercity. Because of the battery range, only a “fast charger‿ is practical (unless one wishes to shop at Goodwill for 2 - 3 hours). Fast chargers can be few and far between in the Midwest."

David G., MN (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Low center of gravity and crisp acceleration"

Anonymous, WA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Nothing beats the acceleration in an EV. It ranges from whisper quiet smoothness to tire squealing violence depending on your mood. The immediacy of the response is something not even a German sports car can muster."

Anonymous, ON (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Very quick around town & quite good on the interstate. Overall, very fun to drive & stable, but a bit bumpy on cobblestones & bad local roads."

Stephen W., KY (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Fast acceleration that nobody really needs, but it IS fun to squeal tires at 20 mph by flooring it. It handles like it's riding on rails and is fast reacting in it's steering response."

Dave M., IL (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"acceleration is awesome"

Joseph J., CO (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Very quick acceleration, very sporty and quiet."

Patrick C., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Excellent handling and responsivenes."

Raymond F., NY (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"unexpected acceleration. a safety concern."

Anonymous, IL (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Adaptive cruise control is my favorite feature"

Philip C., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"The acceleration and handling of the Bolt exceed my expectations, making the car a pleasure to drive. Only handling problem is some torque-steer."

Anonymous, NY (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Acceleration and handling is good. I primarily use one-pedal driving and I think that it's great!"

Mary P., AZ (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"I love the handling and the responsiveness of the 2017 Bolt LT. I have some issue with the front air bag columns,..they are too wide and block some vision."

Anonymous, CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"The Bolt handles very Wells and accelerates more quickly than most cars in this category."

Gregoire B., QC (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"great acceleration and surprisingly good handling"

Anonymous, OR (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"This is a fun car to drive! The acceleration (torque) is so much fun and it handles very well with the batteries located low to the ground. The best part though is one pedal driving, which makes traffic a breeze. Not to mention you get access to the HOV lane in Arizona."

David M., AZ (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"I enjoy the acceleration and ride, it is fun to drive!"

Richard S., NY (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"The bird’s eye view is awesome! I will never buy a car without the blind spot warning system, or the front collision warning system again."

Ed B., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Instantaneous acceleration is very handy in traffic, to the point that I wish it had 2 motors, making it AWD for better acceleration and even better regeneration during strong stops. I wish someone would make an EV minivan, the size of our Mazda MPV"

Katherine L., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"This car has AMAZING acceleration and handling. It is very fun to drive and responds like an expensive sports car."

Anonymous, CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"The Bolt has sports car-like acceleration and handling. It has cruise control, but I wish it was adaptive. It is equipped with emergency autonomous braking."

Francis K., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"The acceleration is (well, it could be depending on who is driving) neck-snapping. One of the great things about an EV is how exactly it holds its speed, especially on downhills, when cruise control is engaged. It doesn't, like gas-powered cars we've had, speed up on downhills. Also, going along with the features of an EV, is single pedal operation. Just taking my foot off (or even just easing off) the accelerator causes the car to slow down. This, at least for me, relieves the fatigue of moving my foot back and forth from the accelerator to the brake pedal. And, as I said, the handling, specifically pertaining to steering, is pretty tight. All in all it's a delight to drive. Even my wife, the non-gear-head and non-techie, says so. (Therefore it must be so. No?)"

Les P., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Acceleration is instantaneous and powerful. No fear to merge or pass. Handling is acceptable."

Anonymous, CO (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Electric drive unit is excellent. Acceleration is excellent. One pedal driving!"

Anonymous, CO (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Responsive and very good acceleration and handling."

Anonymous, CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"It has plenty of acceleration and handling is great."

Anonymous, KS (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"I really enjoy its peppyness. It accelerates quickly. It has a tighter turning radius than my previous vehicle."

Anne G., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"I already commented on this. Acceleration is excellent. The only downside is the very stiff ride and the not comfortable seats. Old people like these cars. Please give us some lumbar support."

Anonymous, WA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Acceleration is fantastic, especially in sport mode, though I definitely feel the torque steer when accelerating hard. Handling is pretty good given the weight of the vehicle, though suspension could be improved. Overall, very fun to drive."

Jerry R., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Nice to operate. Quiet. Easy to control and lots of power..."

Garth S., MA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"I love driving in Low mode, which allows me to drive with just the accelerator pedal. As soon as I take my foot off the accelerator, the car slows down. It provides a more controlled driving experience."

Anonymous, ME (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Acceleration is excellent! Brakes are good but very seldom use them as I do ALL my driving in LO mode & have adapted to the regen braking. I would put on grippier tires but don't want to dip into the battery range. I use Nokian tires summer & winter."

John G., ON (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"The instant torque means great low speed acceleration and still plenty of acceleration at highway speeds. Handling is much better than expected due to the low center of gravity. The low rolling resistance tires extend range but are the limiting factor in handling. Very quiet to drive. Very solid build."

Anonymous, CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Great acceleration and regenerative braking."

Anonymous, MA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"The Bolt of the fastest and smoothest car I’ve ever owned. While it’s not go cart like it handles very well with a reasonably smooth ride. I love being able to zip by people on the interstate with no hesitation from the drive system. I also really enjoy the near one pedal driving in traffic."

Brian P., MN (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Really fast acceleration"

Anonymous, CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Acceleration is more than satisfactory and the car hugs the road on turns."

Anonymous, OR (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Great acceleration. Direct drive transmission and electric motor brings instant acceleration. Handling is superb."

James C., OK (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"very zippy acceleration and handling. Never embarrassed at a traffic light. Zero-to-35 is GREAT and 55 to 80 is good enough. Braking via decelearation or via extra paddle slow-down also works well. Almost never use my brakes."

Anonymous, CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"This little car can go. It moves so FAST down the highway. Turns are solid with the Bolt's weight low and the electric motor just works great. Love it."

Clinton D., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Quick acceleration, flat cornering, quietness."

Bill M., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"The acceleration is noticeably brisk and smooth. Off the line car response is immediate, smooth, and full power. I didn’t realize it until I started driving the Bolt, but EV acceleration is immediately “on‿ and uniform without drop off. With a conventional car it takes time to get full power to accelerate from a full stop. I therefore can “beat‿ most cars including sports cars off the line if I were so inclined. In practice the EV drive acceleration makes me feel safe because I have maneuverability and speed wherever I need to call on it. In sum...I generally hate cars. I view them as a necessary convenience. The Bolt by contrast is guiltless fun. I really enjoy driving this car on a daily basis...and this is after 10 months of ownership."

Andrew G., IL (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Quick to respond, unlike modern gasoline cars. And easy single paddle driving, it's best feature."

Ronald E., WA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"I didn't know what topic to put this under. It boggles the mind that this car does not have, even optionally available, adaptive cruise control even though it has all of the needed sensors. All it would take is a software change."

Frank W., AR (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"VERY poor handling in rain or windy conditions. It hydroplanes at fairly low speeds of 50 mph or so. Hitting a round white lane marker on a curve on dry pavement at 65 mph can cause a brief loss of control. I would sell this car immediately if I lived in a state with snow or a lot of rain"

Stephanie A., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"It accelerates like a little rocket and has excellent passing power. And all this with complete silence! The ride is on the firm side."

Mike B., ON (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Acceleration, performance and, handling are outstanding."

Anonymous, NY (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Acceleration is spectacular and it handles like a sports car, no leaning when making turns, it's like it's glued to the road"

Anonymous, MI (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Impressive acceleration. Responsive handling. Particularly like the way the two camera views help in parking and maneuvering in close quarters."

Anonymous, CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Responsive and zippy. I was afraid that as an all electric car it would be sluggish. It has a Sport mode which I have not felt the need to use."

Bala R., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"The acceleration on this car is superb; it is like driving a rocket. Overall, the Chevy Bolt is the best car I've ever driven, hands down. I would take it over any gasoline vehicle, including BMW and Mercedes."

Zebadiah K., MA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Excellent acceleration. Handles very well. Quiet. Smooth."

Allan G., FL (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Super quiet and great acceleration"

Kathy M., MO (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Excellent acceleration and I love one peddle driving"

Anonymous, IA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"quick acceleration"

Jason O., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Great, much better than a gas car. I feel that electric vehicles are much smoother and quicker to respond, which puts them in a different class. I wish reviews about electric cars would mention that you get better engine/motor performance than gas; it's not just about the type of fuel."

Anonymous, MA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"It has a choppy ride but all other areas are great."

Anonymous, AZ (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"It is zippy! I have no worries merging into traffic.. I really enjoy driving it!"

Margaret C., TX (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"The Bolt always has plenty of acceleration for any task."

Greg E., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"The acceleration is Outstanding &easy to control"

Anonymous, FL (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Acceleration is excellent. It provides means to move fast very well. I think this, overall, is good, however, it occurs to me that, knowing one has the ability to move quickly might actually encourage some drivers to be more reckless. I like most the one-pedal driving feature. It links breaking to letting up on the accelerator. Time is not lost moving one's foot to the break pedal and it provides great control over speed and acceleration. For a 5-10 mile trip I only need the brake pedal a couple of times. Also, GM claims, the efficiency is highest when driving under one-pedal control. What I don't like is the dashboard controls that involve pushing a marker on the electronic monitor portion. Because you cannot feel a knob, you have to look to, for example, change the exhaust fan speed. This requires taking your eyes off the road for too long a time. They have done a great job making sure one can control the radio without looking, but I change fan speed and internal temperature much more than I change radio settings."

Robert M., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"It is a really fun car to drive!"

Anonymous, CO (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Car handles incredible well (better than an Audi A4)"

Jay B., VT (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Immediate acceleration is exhilarating. One pedal driving is the future. Love knowing the brakes will probably not be a maintenance item in the future due to this feature."

Richard N., NJ (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Very good handling - hugs curves and accelerates so quickly that I have to back off much more quickly than i anticipate."

Anonymous, CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Excellent acceleration and handling. Consistently more than 250 miles in city driving. No real network of quick DC chargers like tesla for long distance driving"

Anonymous, CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Acceleration: The instant torque is exhilerating and the lack of engine noise adds to the experience. It is much more enjoyable than any internal combustion engined car I have owned. Handling: is very quick and controllable with little body roll."

Mark G., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"1. When driving in 1 pedal mode, I'd like to know my brake lights come on when I decelerate. 2. The car is practically silent. When driving in parking lots where there are pedestrians, I'd like a little courtesy horn or bell to let them know I'm behind them without using the horn and scaring them to death. 3. The place where the car plugs in could use a courtesy light."

Casey K., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Great acceleration from a standing stop. Inspires confidence when entering interstate high speed traffic."

David W., DE (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"An electric motor drive has maximum torque at 0 rpm. Acceleration is a real head snapper. Overall the Bolt is a very well designed vehicle and a precursor for the future of vehicle design."

Anonymous, CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"very quick and nimble. a pleasure to drive. does not handle speed bumps well, very harsh."

Anonymous, OR (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Instantaneous acceleration much faster than the volt I don’t believe it handles quite as well as the volt But still quite respective Regenerative braking is very robust I am able to recapture up to 50% of energy"

Frank B., CO (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"quiet operation is so pleasing. Acceleration is quite powerful; no lags."

Nathan P., IN (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Incredible acceleration that feels more like a sports car."

Anonymous, NJ (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Handling is perfect for our hilly environment. We find L the easiest to use setting and the regenerative braking is energy efficient. The car is very responsive and powerful."

Edward O., BC (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Electric motors deliver peak torque at stall, so most modern EVs have outstanding acceleration - the Bolt is particularly strong. The heavy battery under the chassis makes for a low center of gravity, so the handling is quite sporty."

Anonymous, CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"The handling and acceleration are both excellent for a car in this price range. Suspension compliance feels quite tight, though it can be jolting on harsh surfaces. Due to the cars low center of gravity it tracks extremely well in wind and cornering. Acceleration - well, it's great. What you would expect from a electric drive."

James S., FL (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Fun to drive. Good acceleration. I love the one-pedal driving. You rarely need to use the brake"

Alan B., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"The Bolt has made me a better driver. Even acceleration and breaking add to regenerative charging. I add mileage during my 20 mile trip to work."

R A., CT (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"This car goes! Snappy acceleration from a standstill and cruising at highway speeds, and very nice handling through curves."

Joseph-Juanita C., VT (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Love the instantaneous torque."

Joel M., BC (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Accelerates very well. Corners surprisingly well"

Anonymous, IL (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"It has excellent acceleration from the electric drive train but only mediocre handling due to low-grip tires and an econo-car suspension."

Adam H., VA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Car is most responsive in acceleration due to instant power of electric motor. Handling is good also and compares with the MINI Coopers I have owned."

Anonymous, CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Great acceleration!"

John W., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Electric cars drive smoothly and have lots of torque available at 0 RPM. All the mechanical harshness, hum, vibration of internal-combustion-cars simply isn’t there. I can’t see going back to a gasoline-powered car ever again."

Adam C., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"excellent acceleration and handling"

Anonymous, WA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Accelerates well. Ride so so on a rough road. Seats so so."

Anonymous, CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"The bolt has lots of power"

Anonymous, CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Easy handling and responsive driving. The ride is comfortable even on long (3+ hours) drives. I love the power and response when I need to pass other vehicles, even going up steep hills."

P P., OR (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Crazy fast for a small car. Unexpectedly smooth."

Dave M., IL (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"ACCELERATION!!"

John W., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Instant addictive and quiet acceleration with confidence inspiring handling. Wish traction control would intervene a little quicker since it is easy to chirp the front tires. Another important thing about the Bolt is single pedal driving in Low gear and regeneration on demand button on steering wheel. In day to day driving, I only use the brakes for unforeseen or emergency situations. Otherwise, the pace of progress is completely controlled electrically, using regeneration to the max, which help..."

Katherine L., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"The acceleration is off the hook - 0 to 60 in nothing flat, you hardly notice how fast you're going. Keeps us confident about being able to merge onto the highway quickly."

Gretchen G., PA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"The handling, acceleration, visibility and cabin room are exceptionally good in this car! We are delighted."

Kathleen M., NY (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"plenty of power handles well very fun to drive"

Edmund L., MA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Acceleration is much stronger than you would expect for a compact electric SUV. Handling is also very good for normal street driving, though should not be confused with a true sports car."

Anonymous, CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Very quick. 0 - 60 in about 6.5 seconds. Instant acceleration. You can change lanes very quickly. Because of the battery pack, the car is quite heavy and holds the road very well. Sure handling."

Gary C., NY (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Fantastic acceleration, extremely quiet, eagle eye view parking assist really helpful. Lots of interior room too."

Mike B., ON (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"The most fun I've had driving in a long time. Instant acceleration with pint point steering."

Gary M., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Electric acceleration is a marvel of torque converted to purpose and serenity. The Bolt can make those front wheels spin, so some adjustment is required! Handling ... is so-so. It doesn't feel nearly as well balanced as our e-Golf, and seems to suffer, just a bit, from understeer (noticeable only on curvy mountain roads at highway speeds)."

Eliot M., OR (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"The Bolt is the fasted car I've ever owned. It seems to have endless power if called upon."

Brian P., MN (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Acceleration is very rapid, handles well and is surprisingly fun to drive"

Anonymous, CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Quick, short turning radius,"

Suzanne G., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"terrific acceleration and handling. It is very fun to drive."

Anonymous, MA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Very fast acceleration, it responds well with tight steering. It is fun to drive."

Charles P., MI (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"0-60 in 6-7 seconds, steers very well"

Joseph J., CO (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"The Bolt is a great city car—it zips around with ease. It's also good on the highway, easily keeping up with traffic."

Francis K., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"It accelerates nicely. I don't test the handling. Handles well in normal driving."

David J., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"The seats aren't good for any trip lasting a half hour or more. The ride is rough on many road surfaces in the SF Bay Area."

Dana H., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Seats are uncomfortable."

Anonymous, CO (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"The Bolt seats are misaligned. To be comfortable in the driver's seat, you must move to the right, but then you're off center with the seat back. On the passenger side, it's the opposite. Reviews say the seats are too narrow, but they're not. They're misaligned and badly designed. The rest of the car is wonderful."

Casey K., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"The front seats are very uncomfortable for me. They are too narrow, and lack sufficient padding in the seat and back cushion. I bought a seat cushion to make the seat more comfortable."

Gary F., CT (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Very quiet ride. All you can here is the tires & the wind if going fast enough. Seats are not as bad as some have reported (I'm 5'10" 135 lbs). Seats are better than previous Volt. Ride is firm but sporty. Cornering is limited only by tire grip. Steering has good feel."

John G., ON (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"very quiet and excellent ride"

Anonymous, WA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"The Bolt is very quiet. The ride is decent. The front seats are comfortable for around town but on long trips, I’ve found that, ideally, I stop every hour to walk around (1 hour is my seat comfort limit in the driver’s seat)."

Margaret C., TX (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"The bottoms of the front seats are too small."

Anonymous, NY (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"The driver seat is not comfortable. Seat cushion needs to be thicker."

Gregoire B., QC (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"One of my only gripes is about drivers seat comfort. They are a bit snug and had to buy aftermarket accessories to compensate for this issue."

Richard N., NJ (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Ride is noticeably quiet (one of the great side benefits of an EV). No longer is there the roar of car ignition and muffler. The ride is Smooth. Altogether relaxing"

Andrew G., IL (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Noise: the vehicle is extremely quiet with little road noise and no squeaks or rattles. Seats: The seats are a little narrow but with proper adjustment they are very comfortable. Ride: The short wheelbase makes for a somewhat choppy ride on rough roads but it is fine for most road surfaces."

Mark G., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Seats are very comfortable in the Premier trim level, but the suspension is a bit stiff and emphasises pot holes and speed bumps."

Anonymous, QC (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"The car is suspended such that the ride seems unnecessarily harsh. This may be due in part to the "run-flat" tires that come as standard equipment. There's more road noise than I wish there were. Otherwise it's fine and really handles well."

Les P., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"The Bolt is the most comfortable car I’ve ever driven. The seat goes back far enough and up high enough that my thighs actually rest on the seat."

Ed B., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"The back of the seat is heated & it is very quiet & has a very smooth ride"

Anonymous, FL (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"This is not a luxury vehicle. That being said, the drivers seat has very intrusive side bolsters creating a very narrow seating area. I am not a wide or hefty person (6'2", 190lb) yet typically have to adjust my position carefully in order to be comfortable before belting into the seat. The ride is very tight and somewhat jolting on bumps and hard roads. Handling is excellent. Noise is excellent, the car being very quiet, even with regard to wind noise. Noise mostly - such as it is - comes from tire to pavement."

James S., FL (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Seats are very comfortable for both my 6'3" husband and me 5'3" BUT the headrests cannot be adjusted for me. No matter where they are, they push against my head and the covering catches my hair. I'd like to be able to turn them around, but they cannot be removed to do that. As for noise, there are a lot of little buzzes and rattles heard when driving on our unpaved road - could be tighter..."

Dotty K., VT (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"The front seats are not comfortable for long trips, they are narrow and the side bolsters cut into the thigh. The noise level is good for a small car. The tight handling of the car can compromise ride quality."

Steve W., OR (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Seats are not all that comfortable, particularly on longer trips"

Peter D., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"The seats are not designed for a larger person, they are uncomfortable for longer rides."

Anonymous, CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Narrow front seats."

Anonymous, CO (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"I love how quiet and smooth the ride is. I wish the seats were more comfortable. That said, I am very happy with this car."

Raymond L., MD (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"The Bolt could really use electric seats. If I were a large person, the seats would not be comfortable. The Volt seats are more comfortable. I understand the design constraints the cause the seats to be more of a clamshell design, but they need electric adjustment and more padding."

Joe V., KY (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Rear seat space is excellent; seat cushion comfort is only so-so."

Adam H., VA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Lack of lumbar support is a negative. Use of a pillow helps."

Philip C., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"The batteries are very high capacity but very heavy. They are placed very low in the chassis which lowers the center of gravity - good. But this requires a very stiff suspension. Consequently, this combined with a short wheelbase results in a choppy ride on rough road surfaces."

Anonymous, CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"The Bolt has cheap, uncomfortable, child-sized seats and cheap, hard plastic surfaces everywhere."

Francis K., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"I find the driver's seat to be a bit uncomfortable. Not close to my old Avalon."

Anonymous, MD (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Most uncomfortable front seats in any car Ive driven. Not wide enough seat backs that cut into shoulders."

Anonymous, CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Seats are comfortable noise level is very very quiet the ride is decent"

Frank B., CO (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Seats seem narrow. Noise and ride are much better than I anticipated"

Anonymous, NY (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Very quiet driving as with most EVs. Wind and tire noise are moderate at freeway speeds. Seats have very good structural support for me, but could use a bit more cushioning."

Bill H., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"It is a bit noisy. I wish it had a road noise cancelling system"

Jorge B., WA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Seats & interior are not the quality expected of a car in this price range."

Anonymous, OR (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Seats are comfortable and noise is low. Ride is stiff and bouncy on rough roads."

Peter A., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Surprisingly comfortable. Very quiet."

David E., CT (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Extremely quiet and responsive with a comfortable ride and crisp handling."

Anonymous, MD (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Seats are comfortable and easy to sdjust. Steering wheel is easy to adjust. Car is very quiet and handles very well. The safety features are also great: lane change warnings in the side mirrors and oncoming traffic/person warning in the backup screen both make me feel more comfortable when driving."

Anonymous, FL (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Excellent ride control; quiet ride; comfortable seats"

Michael W., CT (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"I was surprised that there is a lot of roadway noise at higher speeds. I didn’t expect this thinking that electric cars are quiet. This car does not have a he suspension as my old Toyota Avalon and I hear all the bumps in the road. I expected a quiet interior which is important to me as I am deaf in one ear and it is hard to hear my passengers."

Anne G., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Seat comfort is very good for my wife and me. Noise is almost absent and we love that. Ride is good over smoother roads but could be improved over rough city street patches."

Anonymous, CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"There are seat belts for 5 passengers but the middle seat in the back has no head rest, thereby not safe for 5 adults as advertised. The car is exceptionally quiet."

Edward O., BC (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Great driving experience. Poor access to DC quick charge for any real long distance driving"

"It is remarkably quiet, has very comfortable seats, and handles very well."

Doug W., WA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"NOISE level is very low when I don't have the windows open. However, the CLIMATE CONTROL SYSTEM requires that you either have the windows open to get an ambient air breeze OR put the fan on 1 (lowest setting) and adjust the temp to the same as the outside temperature to get an ambient air breeze! I want "un-conditioned" (vs. air-conditioned or heated) air to come through the ducts without using the fan and fooling with the degree-based temperature control knob. The climate control system does not have the "traditional" default of allowing outside air to come through the system without the fan driving it and the a/c or the heater controlling its temperature. And yet that default capability would be ideal for an electric car, minimizing the use of the battery to do the simplest climate control function of providing an ambient air breeze through the ducts. Chevy is probably thinking that most people (Americans anyway) want air-conditioned air, but I am not one of those and I don't live where that is a necessity. So I resort to opening the window(s) to get a breeze. SEATS: I like that the Bolt allows adjusting the front seat height fairly high and fairly level, and I adjust it as high as it will go (and even though I am 6 feet tall, there's still plenty of head room) because what I don't like about most recent cars is that they force you to sit with the seat bottom (and corresponding seat back) tipped backwards and your legs stretched out in front of you instead of sitting more chair-like. So the Bolt allows a more upright driving position for the driver's and front passenger's bucket seats. Reviewers have commented about the narrowness and lack of cushioning materials in the front seats, and I agree to some extent -- I often use a wedge cushion to bring the seat even more level and to not feel the edges of the seat confining my derriere. I would really like a lumbar adjuster in the back of the seat to be able to customize the curve in the seat back for my changing needs while on a long drive."

David R., NY (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Ride is very smooth and comfortable, and noise is hushed, even at freeway speeds."

Eric T., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Good comfort overall with great & surprising legroom, but seats would be better if wider & with lumbar support."

Stephen W., KY (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"The only negative characteristic of our new Bolt is the front seats. They're very narrow which some people might find uncomfortable. Hopefully Chevrolet will address this weakness in the future."

Jim M., MD (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Ride is stiff, bumpy."

Anonymous, MA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"The seats are very comfortable for both me and my wife. We are tall, not overweight. The car rides well, though with a shorter wheelbase it's no land yacht. The noise level is low. It would be even lower at slow speeds, but federal regulations require a bit of a Jetson's tone generator."

Anonymous, IL (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Seats could be more comfortable. They are tough for longer trips."

R A., CT (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"We love the seats except the headrests are too far forward. It’s extremely quiet. The ride is great."

Anthony D., OR (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"The seats are small and rigid. Needs to be improved but adequate."

Anonymous, PA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Seats need to be reworked to increase comfort. The sides of the seats are hard plastic covered with leather which can make it uncomfortable for larger people."

David M., AZ (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"quiet, smooth, no shifting shocks."

Ronald E., WA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"The Bolt seats are approximately one inch too narrow, and they lack lumbar adjustment. The ride is excellent, and the ride is quiet, with minimal road noise and no engine noise."

Francis K., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Driver's seat is very uncomfortable. Seat bottom bolsters are too narrow and too stiff, and seat bottom is too short. Seat back is a bit narrow, and no lumbar support. I have not sat in other seats. Car has a bit too much wind and road noise for an electric. My Leaf is much quieter. Suspension is too stiff and a bit choppy."

"I got a killer lease deal. After all the incentives and rebates are accounted for I am paying $188 per month on a 36 month lease with 12 miles per year."

Anonymous, CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"It's great electric car. After federal credit it cost below 30K"

Anonymous, VA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"I compared the Bolt to the Tesla Model 3 and I believe for the options, mileage and fun to drive Bolt that the money was well spent. Also, I prefer the gauges on the Bolt rather than the Tesla's only option of the touch screen. In addition, it is a Chevrolet and I have more dealer options."

Mary P., AZ (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Exceptional cost (with Federal and NYS tax incentives). Very inexpensive to operate (we are on municipal electric utility)"

Anonymous, NY (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"My 2017 Bolt regularly delivers 300 mile range for my work commute. It is fun to drive due to the instant acceleration and handles surprisingly well. Maintenance is $0 cost. The car is very roomy and accommodates 4 easily and 5 passengers if needed. And I can fit easily in any parking space."

Anonymous, CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"A full EV with a 238 mile range (though I get up to 295 miles), it replaced a large SUV. No regrets. The cost per mile is less than half what a gas engine car costs to run. This car has a lot of utility with the roof rails and CUV-type styling. The hatch opens wide. Lots of hauling space with seats down. We can drive it in and extended metro are with no fear of running the battery low. We can travel multi-state using increasingly numerous charge stations. We'll never go back to a gas engine."

Anonymous, IL (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Massive fuel saving costs in the long run. I hardly ever use the hydraulic brakes so my guess is they will last over 100K. Range has always been better than 235 miles. We currently have a 600V DC fast charger close by which is free for first 45 min. I charge there a couple of times a week. Roomy back seat with flat floor and good amount of luggage room, becoming cavernous when you take out all the compartiments and liners. Brakes will last over 100K miles with the strong regeneration, even better than the Volt. I always drive in L which gives you one pedal driving unless you need a sudden stop. A lot of service and oil change work is avoided with EV drivetrain. There is not even an automatic transmission to worry about. Substantial feeling doors, like a BMW, unlike our Prius. Our Volt and our Bolt have been completely trouble free, with one over the air software update I performed on the Bolt, in our own driveway."

Katherine L., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Good value for an electric vehicle, but still quite a bit more expensive than gas. Less expensive fuel cost and tax rebates helps make some of that back."

Anonymous, CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"The Bolt's range is far more in either urban or suburban driving than rated, and ok on the highway unless you are traveling over 65 MPH. Range drops at higher speeds. A/C and heater use also can severely impact mileage. I estimate that even at NJ's exorbitant electricity prices, my cost is about half that of gas, or maybe even less. Add the $7,500 tax credit, and the car is a bargain. Oh, and there is no real maintenance beyond cabin air filters and tire rotations for the first 150,000 miles! It is easy to change the cabin air filter yourself, and brake life should be forever due to regenerative braking in electric vehicles. If you drive a lot, but under 200 miles a day, this car is PERFECT."

David M., NJ (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Wide discrepancy between winter and summer range. Car is fun to drive"

Raymond F., NY (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"We leased the LT version with some added packages. When I figured in the federal, state, and electric utility rebates, this car is costing me only $210/month. I think this is a fantastic value for an electric car that is so much fun to drive. provides the great utility of a hatchback., and, given that I have solar panels on my home, costs almost nothing to drive!!"

Jerry R., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Virtually zero maintenance, no range issues, it's a great car!"

Anonymous, CO (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"good, but connection with samsung galaxy s7 non existent. Neither Chevy or my carrier could make it work. Otherwise, it is first electric car at moderate price."

Elizabeth D., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Expensive - 44k MSRP for loaded Premier model. 36-month lease. Leased because EV technology is maturing rapidly, and I am now firmly in the EV camp. The Bolt is a nearly perfect vehicle for me (retired) with virtually no maintenance, negligible cost of operating, great performance and comfort."

Anonymous, CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Great commuter vehicle. Fun to drive as an added bonus :)"

Jason O., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Less than many comparable cars; plus the tax credit."

Nathan P., IN (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Price is a bit high, but the car is good. Not enough DC fast chargers available yet."

Matthew D., MA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"We got an outstanding deal on a demo model."

Doug W., WA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Half the price of the Rav4 EV lease price. Not as good as the Rav4 EV but better value for the cost."

Shawn S., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"So far in nine months our Bolt has only been in the shop once for a software update. We usually can go two or three days without recharging, and when we do the electricity we use costs about a 1/3 of what we would've spent on gasoline."

Jim M., MD (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Virtually no maintenance, no range issues, it's a great car"

Anonymous, CO (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

Garth S., MA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"This is the best little hot rod electric vehicle value out there. This is a real every-day people's car. A nix on Tesla and it's forced expensive model 3. I'm glad I got the Chevy Bolt of the two..."

Dave M., IL (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"After tax credits I spent less on this than a comparable car in its class and I don't have to pay for gas, oil, transmission maintenance, etc. Other non-EV's I looked at would have cost thousands more to buy and hundreds more every year to maintain."

David B., DE (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Excellent. Better than expected and a car we would purchase again (even over a Tesla Model 3, which we decided not to buy because of our satisfaction with the Bolt)."

Glen S., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"LOVE using my solar panels to charge my Bolt!!! Saved nearly $400 in gas vs my diesel Jetta wagon."

Anonymous, MD (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Maintenance costs to date have been zero, and my "fuel" costs are running about 25% of what the costs would have been with a gasoline car. I almost never use my hydraulic (regular) brakes, because the car's regenerative braking does such a great job of stopping the car, so future maintenance costs should be extremely low. I don't think that most drivers factor the lower operating costs of EVs into their purchase decisions."

Mike B., ON (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"No worry about gas prices. More than adequate range for my purposes. Acceleration and performance are outstanding."

Anonymous, NY (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"The two features lacking in a car in this price range is a navigation system and HD radio. The available Turn-by-Turn navigation involves contacting an OnStar advisor to specify a destination and then you are only presented with spoken directions without even a map display. It's totally inadequate and not user friendly. And OnStar charges $12/month for this?"

Denise T., MD (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"This is a terrific car! I like our Tesla Model S better, but it doesn’t add $80,000 of value. If the Bolt were available when we bought our Model S, I would have bought the Bolt instead."

Adam C., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"We continue to be very pleased with the overall value of this EV. Our savings are a combination of cheaper power vs fuel, and reduced maintenance requirements."

Doug L., ON (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"The driving experience in the 2017 Chevrolet Bolt is very different from driving a non-electric car. This is not intended to be a negative statement; on the contrary, everything about the Chevrolet Bolt has exceeded my expectations about the handling of this auto. The ride and handling is beefy: the weight of the lithium ion batteries under the car keep the auto squarely on the road whether accelerating, turning, or stopping. The electric motor at each front wheel makes acceleration from a dead stop rival that of ANY gasoline driven auto!. Driving the Chevrolet Bolt in Lo shift puts a constant charge back into the electrical system. Having driven and owned a Chevrolet 2015 Impala and 2017 Bolt their good points and unfavorable drawbacks cannot be compared easily like apples to oranges--they are both beneficial fruit and are delicious to eat, but they are very different to enjoy and originate very differently. One huge difference between gasoline and electric driven autos is my frantic need to constantly monitor the amount of charge left in the lithium battery while driving out of town; will there be enough to get back home?"

Walter R., IL (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"The Bolt is fast, efficient and handles well. It saves money on gas and maintenance. The range is great. We have taken it on trips without problems. In fact, I like that it makes my husband slow down a bit when we are on vacation."

Anonymous, WA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"The over 57 mile range we got with our Volt and addictive instant power gave us the confidence to get the 17 Bolt. Why drag along an engine/transmission/exhaust with catalytic converter/gas tank and emission controls that require annual smog check? Just get rid of all that and put a bigger battery in it; that is the Bolt. On top, it addresses on of the few weaknesses of the Volt, a tight back seat and limited luggage space. Flat floor and roomy, instant strong acceleration, 275 mile range in our..."

"No stops at gas stations. No required service. Seats 5 comfortably. Good trunk storage. Surprisingly quick. Best car I have ever earned."

Gary C., NY (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"There is almost no maintenance to do. So in addition to awesome mileage on cheaper electricity, maintenance costs are super low."

Noah G., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"Best full EV long range car out ther - better than a Tesla for less money."

Dave M., IL (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"For the price it should come standard with automatic braking to mitigate for the poor visibility on curves due to the double, yes two piece, A pillars. It is tough to see pedestrians stepping into an intersection. One has to his bob head to left and right to try to see around the pillars."

Dana H., CA (2017 Chevrolet Bolt)

"I paid top price because there were no Bolts for sale in Michigan, I had to drive to Chicago to find one. I didn't get the Dow Chemical supplier discount, Chevy was very slow to make Bolts available in Michigan, they wanted the $16K carbon credit from states like California and New Jersey."
