The Colorado seemed promising when it replaced the S-10 in 2003. However, its unrefined five-cylinder engine, which it shares with its GMC Canyon twin, is anemic and doesn't offer a fuel-economy advantage over a V6. Notable shudder plagues the ride, the seats are uncomfortable and interior quality is lacking. However, handling is sound. Starting in 2009, the Colorado offered standard stability control.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Driving Experience

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

"Turning radius is too wide making it overly difficult to maneuver in tight quarters. Poor acceleration, especially trying to get on an expressway- Transmission downshifts to high rpm's with no speed increase (very hazardous trying to mesh with traffic flow)."

JOHN O., MD (2006 Chevrolet Colorado)

"Strong little truck, carrying loads or pulling small pop up"

Anonymous, NY (2006 Chevrolet Colorado)

"It handle nicely and it will get up and move fast. The gas mileage not very good tho."

Anonymous, TN (2006 Chevrolet Colorado)

"The stange 5 cylinder engine idles a bit rough but it seems amply powered for my needs"

Anonymous, FL (2006 Chevrolet Colorado)

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"Too much road noise."

RON C., WA (2006 Chevrolet Colorado)

"noise and cheap interior materials. It also does not have an outside lock on the passenger side. I did not know that until after accepting the vehicle."

Anonymous, AL (2006 Chevrolet Colorado)

"Lots of noise and squeaks from day one"

Anonymous, OR (2006 Chevrolet Colorado)

"Seats are basic but the truck does well on long haul trips between N.Y. state and Florida. Ride is quiet. On the highway I get 24mpg which is good for a pickup in my opinion"

Anonymous, FL (2006 Chevrolet Colorado)

"The seats are not comfortable in the truck. But the get up and go is awesome. It will move out fast."

Anonymous, TN (2006 Chevrolet Colorado)

"for the price and longevity it would be hard to beat! Room for four Plus luggage and etc. Maintenance had generally been excellent. The tires that CR recommends for the colorado are not being manufactured by any one!"

Anonymous, NC (2006 Chevrolet Colorado)

"cheap vehicle, cheaply made, cheap materials. If I had it to do again, I would rent a pickup when needed rather than buy this cheap product."

R E., ME (2006 Chevrolet Colorado)

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

"Engine has been rebuilt twice in the first hundred thousand miles, once under warranty and once after warranty ended. That's a terrible value."

MEGAN G., OR (2006 Chevrolet Colorado)

"low mileage vehicle in excellent condition for a fair price. Very reliable"

TOBY K., MN (2006 Chevrolet Colorado)

"Purchased used. Stick shift and 4WD. What I wanted at a reasonable price."

GEORGIE S., AB (2006 Chevrolet Colorado)

"Bought used 4 years ago much cheaper than Toyota Tacoma. Only replaced normal things for a vehicle that age. Brakes, water pump, battery, tires. Got with 59,000 have 105,000 miles on it now. Factory stereo was junk replaced with Kenwood that has Bluetooth. Frequently drive it from FL to upstate NY surprisingly road worthy for such a long trip. Exceeded my expectations in that regard"

GARTH L., FL (2006 Chevrolet Colorado)

"Like the 5 cylinder engine. Excellent acceleration. No significant issues. Only money spent has been on maintenance."

Anonymous, SC (2006 Chevrolet Colorado)

"It's a truck and has a bed to put things in. Not comfortable or pleasant to drive."

R E., ME (2006 Chevrolet Colorado)

"the 06 did not live up to expectations. Major recall issues, gas mileage stinks to what was promised, it is a noisy ride and my seats are breaking down with minimal miles and use. For what this model costs new, it does not live up to it. The resale value or trade in value is awful too."

Anonymous, IA (2006 Chevrolet Colorado)
