The Cruze is a solid and substantial-feeling compact car. Its taut, steady and controlled ride makes it one of the smoothest of the small sedans. Inside, it's also one of the quietest small sedans we'd tested. Gasoline-powered models have lackluster fuel economy. Inside, the nicely-finished cabin offers roomy front seats. Taller drivers have plenty of space up front, but the Cruze is very tight in the rear.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Owner Satisfaction with:

Driving Experience

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

"On several occasions, the engine has started to bog in hot weather when the car was being driven at slower speeds. The concern being that when the accelerator was pressed, the card may or may not move forward creating a potentially serious situation if trying to turn left or pass or cross traffic."

CINDI H., IA (2011 Chevrolet Cruze)

"Its a slow pick up especially on an uphill situation but once it gets going it accelerates quickly above say 30mph but getting to 30 mph from a stop takes time and is slow in doing so. As far as accelerating going say 55mph to 65 in a tough situation well it does the job and does it well. It has quick and powerful pick up when accelerating on the go but just not from the stop position."

JOHN T., VA (2011 Chevrolet Cruze)

"Acceleration is bogged down greatly when running the air conditioning. Otherwise is good. Handling is excellent on curvy roads. Very stiff unibody construction."

MARK M., NC (2011 Chevrolet Cruze)

"Lack of power when air condition is on!"

ROBERT C., PA (2011 Chevrolet Cruze)

"underpowered with a 1.4 liter engine. It is always vorkingverg hard to keep up."

REX T., CA (2011 Chevrolet Cruze)

"Very slow acceleration. Way too small inside for comfort."

JUDITH T., FL (2011 Chevrolet Cruze)

"My car rides and drives great but the acceleration sucks."

LAURA P., OH (2011 Chevrolet Cruze)

"Turbo lag is terrible"

Anonymous, MN (2011 Chevrolet Cruze)

"Overall I'm satisfied with car, but it hesitates when accelerating. which can be a problem when passing."

JOAN O., MI (2011 Chevrolet Cruze)

"Slow acceleration on ramps and hills. Would prefer a little more power for merging off ramps"

Anonymous, NY (2011 Chevrolet Cruze)

"Handling was always good a dealer upgrade made acceleration great"

Anonymous, KY (2011 Chevrolet Cruze)

"It has very slow acceleration and gas mileage is poor unless driving on the highway at approximately 60-65 MPH over an extended period of time (i.e., one or more hours)."

ELIZABETH S., TX (2011 Chevrolet Cruze)

"The small engine needs the turbo-charger to rev before giving acceleration, so when stopped (turning left in traffic, for instance), I have to factor in an extra half second and expect the car to take off slowly. Otherwise, it handles great. Good suspension, tracking, easy of driving, stopping, accelerating in traffic--all very good."

KAREN L., MD (2011 Chevrolet Cruze)

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"As an older driver the car is awkward to get in and out of. Foot room is minimal and seat height need to be higher for me,"

Anonymous, ON (2011 Chevrolet Cruze)

"I am a large 6' 3" man with back trouble and wanted to add that the seating, headroom, and legroom in the Cruze are among the most comfortable I've ever experienced in an automobile. I've actually driven this car from Michigan to California and back, 14 hours a day, with no back pain at all. The non-power 8-way adjustable seat is an excellent design. I am sorry to note that GM phased it out on the 2012 Cruze."

GREGORY G., MI (2011 Chevrolet Cruze)

"The seats are rather stiff but one can get use to them after some time spent in them. The ride is quite and smooth w good stereo sound w its Boz speakers. The AC is good. The heating is good in the winter as well as the defrost system which takes time but does an adequate job of it."

JOHN T., VA (2011 Chevrolet Cruze)

"My heater stuck on once. My air conditioning system doesn't really work right."

LAURA P., OH (2011 Chevrolet Cruze)

"seats are very hard and uncomfortable after 100 miles of highway distance"

Anonymous, OR (2011 Chevrolet Cruze)

"Seat is low to ground and ok for around town but uncomfortable on longer tripsl"

Anonymous, NY (2011 Chevrolet Cruze)

"The leather seats are 8 way power adjustable and heated. This care has automatic climate control. It drives and handles great though the acceleration is lacking if you jump on the gas."

Anonymous, IL (2011 Chevrolet Cruze)

"Back seat seating is limited."

CHARLES S., IN (2011 Chevrolet Cruze)

"Seat backs need to be wider. Feel hunched over at times due to a wide back and shoulders. Road noise is high on rough roads."

MARK M., NC (2011 Chevrolet Cruze)

"Leather seats are not comfortable on long drives."

Anonymous, NY (2011 Chevrolet Cruze)

"Comfortable ride with good isolation from road noise"

Anonymous, ON (2011 Chevrolet Cruze)

"A really "solid" car for the price."

KUZNIAR E., IL (2011 Chevrolet Cruze)

"The factory installed tires made for a rougher ride. Once I replaced them, the ride smoothed out."

Anonymous, MI (2011 Chevrolet Cruze)

"I am not satisfied with the wind noise around the front doors also the seats are very uncomfortable on long trips"

Anonymous, MD (2011 Chevrolet Cruze)

"The engine revs very, very loud when I am parked or in neutral & the motor is running. I have tried to have this fixed 2X. The car is extremely noisy when driving over 80 kms- I cannot hear the radio at all without blasting the ears of my passengers. This is my biggest issue."

Anonymous, ON (2011 Chevrolet Cruze)

"front seat is cupped so that I need a thin pillow in the middle of the back when I'm not wearing a coat, to be comfortable for long distances. The headrest is too far forward for me to be able to sit up straight without the pillow ("active head restraint" is TERRIBLE for your posture. Everything else is great!"

KAREN L., MD (2011 Chevrolet Cruze)

If we don’t have sufficient data, a similar model might be used to form the owner-satisfaction score.
