2010 Chevrolet Equinox Owner Satisfaction - Consumer Reports
The Equinox splits the difference between small SUVs and midsized models. While nice and roomy inside, it's less efficient than other five-passenger SUVs, but burns as much gas as larger, seven-passenger models. The 3.6-liter engine supplies quick acceleration times at the test track, but feels sluggish in routine driving with its unrefined and slow-shifting six-speed automatic transmission doing it no favors.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

What Owners Say

"We have a 4 cylinder engine. The engine is too small for the car. We should have gotten the 6 cylinder engine."

Bruce B., WI (2010 Chevrolet Equinox)

"4 cyl somewhat slow to accelerate but drives nicely on the open road once cruise speed is obtained. It is a very comfortable car in which to take trips"

Anonymous, KY (2010 Chevrolet Equinox)

"The 4 cylinder motor rarely feels strained and does a great job of most anything. The all-wheel drive is also great to have in wet or snowy conditions and functions seamlessly."

MARK B., OH (2010 Chevrolet Equinox)

"It is very sluggish when accelerating. We have the 4 cylinder engine, it doesn't like steep roads."

Anonymous, OH (2010 Chevrolet Equinox)

"the ride. it's the fastest vehicle i've ever driven speed on the highway. handling wow."

STANLEY H., SK (2010 Chevrolet Equinox)

"Rides like a dream at higway speeds. Four cylinder engine underpowered. Turning radius poor. Oil consumption terrible. Led to premature engine failure."

Anonymous, NY (2010 Chevrolet Equinox)

"The handling is really outstanding. On tight turns and corners I feel like it has a magnet connected to the road. Very predictable and reliable. On the other hand, the acceleration is dreadful. I call it the Flintstones Car, you need to flap your arms to get it moving."

David G., NY (2010 Chevrolet Equinox)

"A bit slow transmission when going from reverse to forward and turning radius is not very tight"

Brian D., WI (2010 Chevrolet Equinox)

"Very quiet inside and holds the road well on long trips. --- economical."

Thomas B., MI (2010 Chevrolet Equinox)

"Slow acceleration, shifts hard, clutch slips, but drives straight and is comfortable."

Anonymous, WI (2010 Chevrolet Equinox)

"Acceleration is terrible and I feel vulnerable at intersections. In ECO mode, the acceleration is so poor I consider it dangerous."

Anonymous, CA (2010 Chevrolet Equinox)

"The engine, probably because of the low oil problem, makes a clunking noise all the time which makes accelerating a little scary, like you're going to blow a rod or head gasket. The steering wheel shakes when you apply the breaks."

Todd B., FL (2010 Chevrolet Equinox)

"Acceleration is only adequate as we have the 4 cylinder. It often downshifts at 110 kph or higher with slightest upgrade and some headwind - not enough power. The ride is good other than on rough roads. car is quiet, and an excellent highway cruiser. Handling is good but the vehicle is somewhat difficult to park as there are no visual references. At sharp right hand corners in city driving we often hit the curb with the right side rear wheel as we lose reference. Car does not turn very sharp when parking. The car is excellent on loose gravel roads; we have front wheel drive. The brakes and Michelin tires work very well, we have been in several dangerous situations where extreme braking was needed. We also hit a deer at highway speeds which did some $10,000 damages but the car still got us home without problem even though radiator was pushed up tight to the front of motor. We had no injury but the deer was thrown hard into the ditch."

Anonymous, MB (2010 Chevrolet Equinox)

"This car is very comfortable driving. It is a little under powered, but this is not a major problem. Most of the miles on this car have been Interstate driving and it does a great job over the road."

John L., KY (2010 Chevrolet Equinox)

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"No problems since buying it new. Ride and road noise are bad."

Jerry P., WI (2010 Chevrolet Equinox)

"to much road noise"

Anonymous, MI (2010 Chevrolet Equinox)

"climate control does not switch between heating and cooling. the control had to be changed by a mechanic. in the meantime the car has been too hot or too cold"

Anonymous, ON (2010 Chevrolet Equinox)

"The seating and noise cancellation are amazing and contribute to a very comfortable, quiet ride."

MARK B., OH (2010 Chevrolet Equinox)

"The car is quite loud"

Anonymous, CA (2010 Chevrolet Equinox)

"The seats are uncomfortable as the sides of the seats turn up and press against the outside of my thighs. Getting out of the seat I have to go up and over that same upturned seat. Also it is terribly noisy inside the car when driving on the highway."

Anonymous, OR (2010 Chevrolet Equinox)

"The A/C has never worked correctly. It cools but doesn't chill. I quit going back because they always said it checked out. I bought a thermometer and put it in the vent and it never went below 40 always 40-45 degrees no matter what the temp was outside."

Anonymous, CA (2010 Chevrolet Equinox)

"The Chevrolet Equinox is a very comfortable riding car--seats are extremely comfortable. Have 4 cyl which is fine on open road but could use a little more get up and go."

JOHN L., KY (2010 Chevrolet Equinox)

"Had the air conditioner replaced three times."

AL T., CO (2010 Chevrolet Equinox)

"The only issue with the 2010 Chevy Equinox climate control is, the a/c only blows cool air in the front seat area. Back seat passengers don't get adequate cool air."

Anonymous, KS (2010 Chevrolet Equinox)

"Seats are not comfortable - wife would rather ride in the truck."

Anonymous, MN (2010 Chevrolet Equinox)

"i like the seats and ride. there appears to be noise in the cabin"

Anonymous, ON (2010 Chevrolet Equinox)

"seats are comfortable, good for long distance driving with lumbar support. Heated seats in winter is great."

Anonymous, NY (2010 Chevrolet Equinox)

"We drove from Massachusetts to California and back and found the car very comfortable and a pleasure to drive. It is also roomy. In addition to our luggage, we had my husband's wheel chair and walker, and a large cooler."

BETTY R., MA (2010 Chevrolet Equinox)

"We had a Venture that was very comfy and had plenty of storage pockets, plus was easy to get in and out. The Equinox has a seat that has almost like a lip on it, making it more difficult for getting out. With fewer pockets, there is no place for even my sunglasses :("

Anonymous, WI (2010 Chevrolet Equinox)

"I'd like a better lumbar support in my 2010 Equinox driver's seat. There is one but it has never worked!"

PATRICIA W., NJ (2010 Chevrolet Equinox)

"No rear A/C vents means it takes time to cool down rear seat passengers."

Anonymous, TX (2010 Chevrolet Equinox)

"Plenty of front and rear legroom. Firm seats (good). Acceptable driving noise."

HOWARD M., TX (2010 Chevrolet Equinox)

"The seats are made for smaller people. If one or both occupants are large the curved type seats are uncomfortable. Should offer a straight standard bucket seat."

Anonymous, MI (2010 Chevrolet Equinox)

"Harsh ride, very noisy. Long rides take a toll. Stop every 50 to 75 miles."

Owen P., NV (2010 Chevrolet Equinox)

"Comfortable seating. Plenty of legroom."

Bob O., KY (2010 Chevrolet Equinox)

"I am over 6 feet tall and am very comfortable with the driving position and power seats. The passenger and rear seats are also comfortable and very spacious. The car is quiet at all speeds except under hard acceleration."

Anonymous, MB (2010 Chevrolet Equinox)

"Very comfortable"

Brian D., WI (2010 Chevrolet Equinox)

"My husband has a bad back, but even so he is comfortable riding long distances in our Equinox. A few years ago we drove from Massachusetts to California and back and found the ride to be very comfortable. We weren't bothered by road noise or anything else. We've made other long road trips in equal comfort."

Betty R., MA (2010 Chevrolet Equinox)

"seats are good"

Anonymous, NC (2010 Chevrolet Equinox)

"Don't buy new models in their first year of production."

Allen M., OH (2010 Chevrolet Equinox)

"The seats are very comfortable and supportive, especiallyfor long trips. Noise and ride are average."

Thomas R., VA (2010 Chevrolet Equinox)

"It is very comfortable for a tall person like me. The ride is comfortable, road noise is minimal."

David G., NY (2010 Chevrolet Equinox)

Anonymous, ON (2010 Chevrolet Equinox)

"Ride is somewhat stiff and seats are a little thin/hard. While not uncomfortable, I would like a little softer ride and seats."

Roger H., IL (2010 Chevrolet Equinox)

"Seats are very comfortable easy to change to my comfort I have enjoyed owning this car"

Helen K., IL (2010 Chevrolet Equinox)

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

"I am very satisfied with the cost of purchasing the car"

Bruce B., WI (2010 Chevrolet Equinox)

"Didn't hold its value. All four doors are rusting. Had major oil consumption issue."

Anonymous, MN (2010 Chevrolet Equinox)

"ok used "car" never any major problems, some blind spot issues. 3.0 engine hard on gas and under powered. nice interior"

THOMAS H., ON (2010 Chevrolet Equinox)

"This vehicle was bought in Fall of 2009 and we still drive it when we are in Michigan and take to family in the East coast. This gives us the room we need to take things and gives us a good gas range."

RICHARD W., AZ (2010 Chevrolet Equinox)

"Excellent fuel mileage, good reliability and nicely styled vehicle that is practical. Some issues with this being a first year model when purchased but all items were addressed and rectified."

ERNEST H., MB (2010 Chevrolet Equinox)

"Engine failure at 91000 miles. Limited support from GM and dealer."

Anonymous, NY (2010 Chevrolet Equinox)

"I have not put any money in this vehicle except for new tires and a battery. I currently have 97,000 miles on it."

LARRY N., CA (2010 Chevrolet Equinox)

"For a relatively modest price, I bought a utilitarian vehicle that is comfortable for passengers, carries a large cargo load, and is inexpensive to operate."

DAVID G., NY (2010 Chevrolet Equinox)

"It has been driven on adirt road daily for 5 years and 120000 miles. Horrible turning radius!"

Anonymous, MA (2010 Chevrolet Equinox)

"$9k engine and transmission rebuild at 115000 miles. Had oil issues which ruined the whole drivetrain. The Chevy dealer said it was my fault for not checking the oil every 1k miles and needing to add oil every 2k miles."

Anonymous, WI (2010 Chevrolet Equinox)

"The 2010 is an oil burner. I just replaced the AC compressor for the third time."

Anonymous, CA (2010 Chevrolet Equinox)

"My 2010 Chevrolet Equinox has been very reliable and inexpensive to own while getting good features and performance for the money."

Roger H., IL (2010 Chevrolet Equinox)

"Lots of problems with this vehicle. Just a bad model year I guess. It burns off oil too quickly which the dealer just wants us to being it in more frequently for oil changes. The engine, probably because of the oil problem, makes a clunking noise all the time which makes accelerating a little scary, like you're going to blow a rod or head gasket. The AC has had multiple breakdowns, replaced the pump twice. Anyway, that is just a few things, there are more."

Todd B., FL (2010 Chevrolet Equinox)

"Dependability Gas mileage Value"

Anonymous, TX (2010 Chevrolet Equinox)

How it looks inside and out

What Owners Say

"I have always liked the looks of the equinox, both inside and out."

Anonymous, ON (2010 Chevrolet Equinox)

"Only dislike is that the front right support column and right rear view mirror create a blind spot for my shorter wife."

R H., MN (2010 Chevrolet Equinox)

"We find that the front window posts are too large and along with the rear view mirror are hard to see around--example, a pedestrian on the curb would be easy to not see because of blocked view by the post with the mirror."

Anonymous, BC (2010 Chevrolet Equinox)
