This version of the Chevrolet Impala was competitive in its class, but there were better choices. While ride and handling are sound, they lag behind those of many competitors. On the other hand, the revised interior is comfortable and has logical controls. Still, wind noise is notable and the engine isn't particularly refined.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

“Seats are hard, vent louvres broke, confusing sound system control labeling, mirror fell off windshield, both sun visors became inoperable, electric driver's seat adjustment only partially works”

Anonymous, NY (2006 Chevrolet Impala)

“Comfortable on long drives. Slight noise.”

Anonymous, PA (2006 Chevrolet Impala)

“The sun visors do not do an adequate job. They do not cover the entire area. The heater vents are good. For once my left foot does not freeze while my right burns. The back seat does not have enough leg room. Love that it burns E85 gas.”

JUDITH T., IL (2006 Chevrolet Impala)

“I need an auto with a bench seat in the front. The Impala had an option (discontinued in 2014) for a 40/20/40 front bench seat with a fold-up arm rest. Love it! Very good thigh support too. Overall a very comfortable seat.”

JOHN G., MI (2006 Chevrolet Impala)

“Passenger seat is very uncomfortable, the power seat option would probably help but my car doesn't have it on the passenger side.”

DOUGLAS K., FL (2006 Chevrolet Impala)

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

“Paid $2000 under blue book been great except for warning lights coming on when nothings wrong. TPS,Traction control, and Low oil pressure.”

D P., WI (2006 Chevrolet Impala)

“We needed a reliable used car and we got one. Impala is not the easiest to get in and out of. Rusting around trim water runs in trunk when opened after heavy dew or rain etc we can't complain.”

JANET J., WI (2006 Chevrolet Impala)

“I bought this as a used car in 2009 from the dealer. It was one of their loaner vehicles. It had 28,000 miles and included a one-year warranty. I only paid $10,500 for it, partly due to it had been involved in a minor accident but I couldn't tell other than Carfax mentioned it.”

JOHN G., MI (2006 Chevrolet Impala)

“Well there are very few of this model around and I purchased this with 19,000 miles on it and I'll continue to drive it. Highway mileage is 26 mpg with a V-8!”

ROGER R., PA (2006 Chevrolet Impala)

“No major problems got just what I expected and paid for .”

Anonymous, PA (2006 Chevrolet Impala)

“We bought the car new 10 years ago. It has had no major problems. It still looks very good. It now has 124,000 miles and still runs good.”

Anonymous, IN (2006 Chevrolet Impala)

Percentage of owners who would definitely purchase that same vehicle again. Owner-satisfaction Ratings are determined by the percentage of those who answered "definitely yes" to the question asked by the Consumer Reports Annual Auto Survey "Considering all factors (price, performance, reliability, comfort, enjoyment, etc.), would you get this car if you had to do it all over again?". If we don’t have sufficient data, a similar model might be used to form the owner-satisfaction score.
