At this point, we'd determined the unimpressive Chevrolet Impala was overdue for a redesign. Its short list of good points included simple radio controls and a large trunk. Although a large sedan, the cabin is less roomy and comfortable than many smaller offerings. Handling is clumsy and powertrain refinement falls short. The rear seat is skimpy for a car this size and the car's fit and finish are second-rate.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Owner Satisfaction with:

Driving Experience

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

“Styling and handling is great, but a lot of road noise from wheels.”

Anonymous, CA (2010 Chevrolet Impala)

“plenty of power entering pn and off the interstate highways”

DOUGLAS M., NJ (2010 Chevrolet Impala)

“The traction control sometimes (a few times) causes the car to refuse to accelerate above about 5-10mph. This is on normal, non- freezing nor slicky road conditions. In heavy traffic this causes panic and definitely a chance for an accident. I cannot find where Chevrolet has made any recalls on this problem.”

JERRY S., TX (2010 Chevrolet Impala)

“I drive a lot and am very confortable i find its not tiring driving long trips”

BERNARD C., ON (2010 Chevrolet Impala)

“The acceleration is very good & I like the power it has got and handles very well.although you get window wind noise at times.”

KIT H., NC (2010 Chevrolet Impala)

“engine large enough to provide good acceleration”

Anonymous, MD (2010 Chevrolet Impala)

“Has some noise in the engine compartment when first starting. stops after a while. Service company cannot duplicate.”

Anonymous, CO (2010 Chevrolet Impala)

“Very good pick-up for accelerating. Size of car good on handling--Small-frame wife really likes it. She drives it a lot.”

Anonymous, MI (2010 Chevrolet Impala)

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

“A/C componets are not reliable”

Anonymous, AZ (2010 Chevrolet Impala)

“seats have a firm, quality feel; dual climate controls work very well--a.c. blows cool air almost immediately; ride is solid and smooth; overall a great mid-size ride.”

STEPHEN T., PA (2010 Chevrolet Impala)

“it rides great”

DOUGLAS M., NJ (2010 Chevrolet Impala)

“My wife doesn't like the turning radius of this vehicle.”

Anonymous, NC (2010 Chevrolet Impala)

“I had to replace 2 of the 4 vent control motors on air climate control. They are expensive. They used nylon gears to drive the diversion vents. Top of dashboard had to be removed to get to them. Gears were all chewed up. Replaced with after market metal gears. So far, so good.”

ARTHUR D., FL (2010 Chevrolet Impala)

“Good comfortable car for long distance trips. Very quiet inside. Handles very smoothly.”

Anonymous, CA (2010 Chevrolet Impala)

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

“Major problem with actuators going out on climate control system throughout the cars lifetime. Replaced 6 actuators so far at 91,000. But otherwise the car has been flawless. Put a set of Michelin Defenders on at 46,000 and the car has driven and handled exceptionally.”

ROBERT C., TX (2010 Chevrolet Impala)

“I bought it as a rental car with 29000 miles in 2010 and now I have 98000 miles and it has been a dependable car. Only problem is brakes, transmission solenoid & CD player don't play all the time.”

KIT H., NC (2010 Chevrolet Impala)

“I chose this car knowing(from having owned a 2007 Impala) that while the original equipment brakes and tires would need replacing before 30000 miles, the overall bargain($4500 under book value) I was getting made this purchase a real steal.”

STEPHEN T., PA (2010 Chevrolet Impala)

“Don't ever finance a vehicle. If you can afford to make payments, then you can save the same amount and pay cash. Your savings will be probably two thirds the total price!”

PAMELA H., IL (2010 Chevrolet Impala)

“I think we got good value for the money we spent on the impala. It has been a good car for the money and although not as fancy as the Buick we used to have, it is still a solid ride!”

Anonymous, MI (2010 Chevrolet Impala)

“I bought it used as a rental car from a national company through a dealer. I considered it an excellent value for the price and have not been disappointed”

BILL P., NC (2010 Chevrolet Impala)

“Reasonable price and an U.S. brand.”

Anonymous, CA (2010 Chevrolet Impala)

“I inherited this car from my parent's estate. It has served us well but would not be our first choice in vehicles.”

Anonymous, WI (2010 Chevrolet Impala)

How it looks inside and out
