This edition of the Chevrolet Impala was way overdue for a redesign. Although it received a new powertrain for 2012, this car relies on a platform that dates back to 1988. The short list of good points begins and ends with its large trunk. The Impala lacks agility and too much noise makes it into the cabin. Interior fit and finish are low rent.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

PAUL H., MI (2012 Chevrolet Impala)

DIANE P., MI (2012 Chevrolet Impala)

“No back up warning system”

Anonymous, NY (2012 Chevrolet Impala)

“Car handles well in the city as well on the highway.plenty of power with the 6 cylinder engine”

CHARLES M., PA (2012 Chevrolet Impala)

“The power combined with fuel economy is amazing for this size car. 6 speed transmission is set up perfectly for this car. Everything is effortless while accelerating or cruising.”

DAVID U., FL (2012 Chevrolet Impala)

“Unreal acceleration 305 HP with a 6 speed automatic transmission. Handling could be better but I rate it acceptable.”

STEVE L., AZ (2012 Chevrolet Impala)

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

“body styling”

MARK G., MN (2012 Chevrolet Impala)

“Overall cabin noise is terrible!!! Engine noise in Cabin noise is excessive from 6 cyl engine and with windows open and closed. Wind and road noise at freeway speeds drowns out normal conversation and radio. Suspension is stiff in city driving. You feel every bump and crack in the road surface.”

FRANCIS L., OH (2012 Chevrolet Impala)

“I'm 6 foot four inches, and I can drive this car comfortably.”

Anonymous, IN (2012 Chevrolet Impala)

“The steering wheel is to close when I drive. Not able to adjust and reach pedals.”

Anonymous, IL (2012 Chevrolet Impala)

“ride is smooth”

LYUDMILA B., NY (2012 Chevrolet Impala)

“seats are too soft, do not hold you in place”

MICHAEL H., NY (2012 Chevrolet Impala)

“I previously owned a 2006 Impala. The 2012 is not as quiet when driving on interstate highways.”

JAMES W., NY (2012 Chevrolet Impala)

“Very comfortable, quiet ride”

BEVERLY C., CT (2012 Chevrolet Impala)

“The seats are impossible to adjust to a comfortable sitting position. Either I'm setting up too straight or I'm laying back too far. And though the vehicle's ride is relatively smooth, I feel as though I have to stop about every 150 miles and get out of the car to take a break from driving. My lower back and kidney area feel abused during long trips.”

Anonymous, MN (2012 Chevrolet Impala)

“I am a big guy and I fit comfortably in this car. I feel somewhat cramped in a Malibu and cannot fit into a Cruze. The seats can easily be adjusted to exactly how I like them, as can the climate controls. The ride is smooth and quiet.”

Anonymous, NY (2012 Chevrolet Impala)

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

“I got a good deal from the dealer”

MARK G., MN (2012 Chevrolet Impala)

“This was a former rental with 8500 miles. The warranty on the Certified Used Car meant that we had a longer warranty than we'd get on a new car for about 80% of the price.”

RUTH P., CA (2012 Chevrolet Impala)

“Bought 4/2014 for $13,000--less than expected”

BEVERLY C., CT (2012 Chevrolet Impala)

“Did get what i thought I wanted at the time, but at a premium cost. Cost being high related mostly to being ill and a must have for a vehicle. The impala gets good gas mileage, ride is a bit off in my opinion. Acceleration is very strong and it is providing reliability and meeting our needs. Itdoes set low and is hard to get in and out of due to old bones and stiff joints. Probably that is why would likely not repeat purchase. It is a very nice all round car.”

DENNIS L., MI (2012 Chevrolet Impala)

How it looks inside and out

What Owners Say

“it is a good looking car”

LARRY D., OH (2012 Chevrolet Impala)

“It is a very handsome car from the outside. From the inside it looks and feels luxurious. It has a classy looking interior.”

JEFF F., MB (2012 Chevrolet Impala)

“Looks good, but design of front door results in a sharp corner which upon entering has caused injury to lower leg as the door swings open. Happened twice. (I'll never learn).”

JOE M., FL (2012 Chevrolet Impala)

“The rear middle headrest blocks my vision on the Impala. It's not removable.”
