The Malibu is a solid, well-rounded sedan. Roomy, it offers easy cabin access, a quiet interior and a comfortable ride. Its V6 engine delivered quick acceleration and competitive fuel economy among competing V6 family sedans. While overall crash protection is average, the Malibu received a Poor in the IIHS side-crash test when tested without its optional side airbags.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Driving Experience

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

"Impressive acceleration and reliability of 3.5 engine. Brakes could be require a little less effort on the pedal. Handles well, nimble enough for my purposes. Very comfortable & fun to drive."

Anonymous, NY (2005 Chevrolet Malibu)

"the handling and acceleration is outstanding. I love to drive this car"

Anonymous, WI (2005 Chevrolet Malibu)

"Driven for over 10 years very little repair cost."

PETER M., MA (2005 Chevrolet Malibu)

"Excellent handling. It's a bigger vehicle than my Focus, which I love for its handling, but this Malibu handles just as well. It's very maneuverable; I can get into and out of tight spots quite easy."

Anonymous, MS (2005 Chevrolet Malibu)

"I can always depend on the V6 engine to respond perfectly when I need it. Love that acceleration."

BRIAN B., FL (2005 Chevrolet Malibu)

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"Terrible on long trips because the seats are so hard and arm rests are hard plastic."

JESSICA B., OH (2005 Chevrolet Malibu)

"Great air, comfortable seats based on ability to use electronic adjustments, manageable noise, it's a Malibu max so wonderful storage (8 ft lumber easy)"

Anonymous, CA (2005 Chevrolet Malibu)

"The seats in this particular model are AWFUL. Hard, unforgiving, and at the totally wrong, unadjustable angle for a short person. However, the highway gas mileage, even for a 10+ year old car is 35 mpg."

LINDA C., GA (2005 Chevrolet Malibu)

"Like the fact that on this car the seats go up and down and the steering wheel goes in and out. Rides well and steering tracks straight."

Anonymous, GA (2005 Chevrolet Malibu)

"Have back problems. Most comfortable seats I ever owned in last 30 yrs. Senior seniur passenger sat in rear seat in the middle seat for 90 mins and didn't accept an offer to sit elsewhere on the return trip."

BRETT C., BC (2005 Chevrolet Malibu)

"I love this car and hope to make it last as long as possible. It's very comfortable, has good back seat leg room. The driver's seat adjusts in so many ways that it fits me like a glove. Sadly, one of my favorite features (adjustable pedals) are no longer available so when the time comes to replace this car, I'll probably look to another type of vehicle. I'm a short person, and this was an important feature to me."

Anonymous, MS (2005 Chevrolet Malibu)

"This car had "hybrid" leather seats which were trimmed in leather, they have not worn very well and were somewhat difficult to clean since they were not fully leather seats and the cloth/microfiber part seemed to stain easily."

THOMAS P., UT (2005 Chevrolet Malibu)

Value

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

"The car has consistently gotten over thirty mpg on the highway. I have checked multiple tanks of gas, recorded gas used measured by the pumps, measured miles by mile markers over hundreds of miles, and it is close to that indicated by the car display."

Anonymous, IN (2005 Chevrolet Malibu)

"Well equipped for the price."

Anonymous, PA (2005 Chevrolet Malibu)

"good ride, reasonable mileage, quiet ride."

Anonymous, ON (2005 Chevrolet Malibu)

"have spent virtually nothing other than LOF, tires, brakes, rear shocks in 155,000 miles"

Anonymous, PA (2005 Chevrolet Malibu)

"2005 purchased new sept 2005 so great value from start"

Anonymous, CA (2005 Chevrolet Malibu)

"X lease vehicle bought when car was 4 years old. Chewed dealer down to acceptable price per web-site recommendations. Got all options I was looking for. Cruise control, V-6, Sport suspension."

BRETT C., BC (2005 Chevrolet Malibu)

"For the price this car has provided a comfortable and reliable ride for over 11 years and 150,000 miles. Some parts of the body are starting to show rust, but overall this has been a very good car."

JAMES S., WI (2005 Chevrolet Malibu)

Styling

How it looks inside and out

What Owners Say

"It's silver inside and out. There's nothing unique about it, nothing stands out. I don't think they even made other colors for this car; every other Malibu I've seen comes in very subdued colors."

Anonymous, MS (2005 Chevrolet Malibu)

"Could pass for a 20166 Model car."
