The four-cylinder Malibu was updated with a six-speed automatic transmission that improves fuel economy and throttle response for this model year. Otherwise, Malibu remains well rounded overall. The car handles well and has a competent powertrain, along with a very quiet, spacious and well-trimmed cabin.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Owner Satisfaction with:

Driving Experience

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

“I feel confident in my control of the Malibu at speed.”

Anonymous, NY (2010 Chevrolet Malibu)

“Engine control unit was reprogrammed, but still shifts unsatisfactory. Headliner too thin, sounds like you are in a tin shack when it rains. Lots of noise in suspension, handling only fair.”

JOHN R., PA (2010 Chevrolet Malibu)

“It accelerates quickly --- very helpful when passing a slower-moving vehicle. It means I'm back in my lane, thus avoiding oncoming traffic.”

I A., SK (2010 Chevrolet Malibu)

“Comfort and ride”

HEATHER C., AB (2010 Chevrolet Malibu)

“Great acceleration and fun to drive.”

Anonymous, IL (2010 Chevrolet Malibu)

“One of the reasons I purchased this car is the good acceleration with a 4 cylinder engine and a 6 speed transmission”

Anonymous, NC (2010 Chevrolet Malibu)

“Acceleration hesitates and tachometer oscillates between 2000 and 3000 RPM when outside temperature is over 90 degrees. Have had this issue since I bought the car. Dealer could not recreate the issue but I have it every summer. From online forums, this seems to be a transmission software issue.”

LOUIS S., MD (2010 Chevrolet Malibu)

“Because I moved from a Buick to this nice Malibu I believe the handling on curves is not as easily done...the Buick turned on a dime...my Malibu turns on a quarter.”

Anonymous, VA (2010 Chevrolet Malibu)

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

“Car was VERY quiet and smooth when I first got it. Over time, squeaks and rattles have increased dramatically. Interior plastics have shifted, loosened, causing constant little creaks/noises. There is a non-metal, maybe plastic panel rattling under the driver footwell that no mechanic seems to be able to find. What was once the car's best quality (quiet, smooth ride) has quickly disappeared and become bothersome, to the point that I am considering trading it in.”

THEODORE B., CT (2010 Chevrolet Malibu)

“The quality of the interior was disappointing. The driver's seat is worn out, something I haven't experienced in other GM cars.”

Anonymous, TX (2010 Chevrolet Malibu)

“Contact Chevy Canada on multiple occasions to try and repair noise coming from right front rotors. No dealerships were able to repair this issue INCLUDING their company tech that had a look at it. The headlights and rear brake lights bulbs need to be replaced frequently ALSO...rear speakers are no long working.”

WALTER S., ON (2010 Chevrolet Malibu)

“The interior seat material is very poor. It is very comfortable but the material is falling apart”

Anonymous, ON (2010 Chevrolet Malibu)

“The driver's seat is a very comfortable bucket seat, although the lumbar support could be better. The passenger seat is flat and uncomfortable. The back seats are somewhere in between the two.”

Anonymous, NC (2010 Chevrolet Malibu)

“The seat covering that came with the car were terrible. I'm sure they would be worn out by now. I had leather put on the seats when I first purchased the car.”

Anonymous, LA (2010 Chevrolet Malibu)

“Noise in brakes and stearing”

ROBERT N., IL (2010 Chevrolet Malibu)

“The major imperfections are; a low door head clearance for a 6 ft. individual, a very rough ride and seats need more padding for a long drive. The inside air vent will periodically switch to outside air and stay on outside air.”

LAWRENCE C., NM (2010 Chevrolet Malibu)

“Road noise is very bad even after different tires. The passengers seat is not very comfortable on long rides. I'm going to have to take the car in for the second time getting the moon-roof to stop rattling. Some how it keeps having the same problem about 18 months apart. Something comes off or breaks all the time, I can't remember. But it makes a rattling sound that is very very annoying.”

Anonymous, WA (2010 Chevrolet Malibu)

“Easy to drive, very comfortable”

Anonymous, FL (2010 Chevrolet Malibu)

“I T FITTS ME WELL AND IS COMFORTABLE”

HEATHER C., AB (2010 Chevrolet Malibu)

Value

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

“great value, good MPG good ride, good storage, ,would buy again”

Anonymous, FL (2010 Chevrolet Malibu)

“Contact Chevy Canada on multiple occasions to try and repair noise coming from right front rotors. No dealerships were able to repair this issue INCLUDING their company tech that had a look at it. The headlights and rear brake lights bulbs need to be replaced frequently ALSO...rear speakers are no long working.”

WALTER S., ON (2010 Chevrolet Malibu)

“Price of autos were down in 2010 and this car was cheaper new than a 1 or 2 year old equivalent Toyota plus it had a 100,000 mile warranty on the drive train. I wanted a Ford but couldn't get my desired color at my price so I "settled" for the Chevy. Great decision. At the time I was commuting twice a week to a work place more than 100 miles from home. I quickly discovered that the Malibu power seat was just what my bad back needed. Great! Love it! Then long highway driving gave me more than 31”

A D., NJ (2010 Chevrolet Malibu)

“I have enjoyed a pleasant, relatively trouble-free, ownership experience for the total period I have owned this vehicle. I have recently passed the 70000 mile mark and am still on the original equipment tires (Goodyear). I will probably buy new tires for the upcoming winter period (Michigan).”

L S., MI (2010 Chevrolet Malibu)

“The design of the car does have blind spots. But an excellent value great style and is fun to drive.”

Anonymous, IL (2010 Chevrolet Malibu)

“Good price for a decent car”

Anonymous, NC (2010 Chevrolet Malibu)

“102000 miles. Drives very much like the first day I bought the car. Only repllaced the rear stabilizer bars. Replaced front brale pads/”

CLAYTON O., MA (2010 Chevrolet Malibu)

“It only had 3600 kilometers when I bought it”

Anonymous, AB (2010 Chevrolet Malibu)

Styling

How it looks inside and out

What Owners Say

“Great colour combo black and cocoa brown”

Anonymous, ON (2010 Chevrolet Malibu)

“The Body”

EDDIE C., AL (2010 Chevrolet Malibu)

“The interior is a big lemon , I have a file on everything that is wrong with it.Thus if the interior is a lemon the whole car is a lemon. And GM expects me to pay for anything that goes wrong with the interior even though it's not the first time”

BOB H., MB (2010 Chevrolet Malibu)

“It's very low to the ground and I feel like I have to craw lout of it. Luckily my son drives it all the time.”

KAREN C., AZ (2010 Chevrolet Malibu)

“Style of the car”

Anonymous, FL (2010 Chevrolet Malibu)

“1957 Chevrolet classic style, this has that same style.”

SILVINO C., MI (2010 Chevrolet Malibu)

“The LTZ has nice lines even today 6 years later as opposed to the BLAH of the non-LTZ. Malibu. However I am comparing the 2000 year versions and this years standard Malibu has better lines than the older one.”

Anonymous, CA (2010 Chevrolet Malibu)

“Styling is fine but visibility is comprised.”
