This long-wheelbase version of the Dodge Caravan rides quietly and handles nimbly. (The Chrysler Town & Country and Plymouth Grand Voyager are similar.) The 3.3-liter and the 3.8-liter V6s both accelerate adequately. The front seats are fairly comfortable, but some of our testers found the padding a little lumpy. Tall drivers may find leg room a little tight.

What Owners Say

Shocks or struts

"Notice water on the passenger floor mats from water leaking in from the engine compartment possibly....not sure where the water enters the vehicle...but it seems to be right below where the glove compartment is located.... As for the shocks I have noticed a bit of a noise coming from the rear shocks/struts and need to have replaced....under their lifetime warranty"

Parks H., CO (2000 Dodge Grand Caravan None 3.3-L V6)

"Car needs rear springs; also the fuel line is rusting; finally a rear panel is rusting. Any or all of these may require repair to pass the state inspection. The auto is not garaged since 2011."

Tire wear is uneven

"Tires were new (less than 12,000 miles on them) and the fronts had edge wear due to poor alignment. Had replaced struts, springs, tie rod ends, and shocks the previous year as well as added adjustment bolts to bring the alignment spot on per specs. Replacement tires went on rear. Front tires are already showing excessive wear on edges . Had it checked by a pro and found the ball joints need replacement this year, so had that done and will be replacing the worn tires again this year. (Air pressure is kept up at 40 to 44 pounds on all of the tires on this car."

Anonymous, NC (2000 Dodge Grand Caravan SE 3.3-L V6)

Transmission Major

Transmission rebuild or replacement, torque converter, clutch replacement.

What Owners Say

Transmission rebuild or replacement

"At over 231,000 miles and 19 years of age, the transmission was probably overdue to go. The vehicle's warning light came on during a 250 mile trip but no symptoms were noted. A check at a parts store indicated a transmission code, but no recommendations. A thorough (over 3 hour) investigation by our mechanic determined the transmission speed difference between the torque converter and transmission was the problem and required a rebuild or replacement. It started to noticeably slip about a week later. The cost for a newer, reliable replacement van that could carry 6 people was out of our budget. Everything else on this van works and it doesn't burn any oil. $2,100 for a remanufactured transmission exchange with labor that had a 3 year unlimited mileage warranty made the most sense, despite the existing age and mileage on this van."

Anonymous, NC (2000 Dodge Grand Caravan SE 3.3-L V6)

Drive System

Driveshaft or axle, CV joint, differential, transfer case, 4WD/AWD components, driveline vibration, traction control, electronic stability control (ESC), electrical failure.

What Owners Say

Electrical failure

"It was actually some sort of valve (original equipment) that failed. I don't recall the nature of it, but the symptom was poor windshield defrosting in freezing weather and slow cooling on hot summer days. All is well now."

Anonymous, CA (2000 Dodge Grand Caravan Sport 3.3-L V6)

Body Hardware

Power or manual windows, locks and latches, tailgate, hatch or trunk, doors or sliding doors, mirrors, seat controls, safety belts, sunroof, convertible top.

Power Equipment

Cruise control, clock, warning lights, body control module, keyless entry, wiper motor or washer, tire pressure monitor, interior or exterior lights, horn, gauges, 12V power plug, remote engine start, alarm or security system

Engine Cooling

Radiator, cooling fan, antifreeze leaks, water pump, thermostat, overheating.
