Chrysler might have invented the modern minivan, but time has marched on, leaving the Dodge Grand Caravan feeling dated and past its prime. At least the GC’s ride is very comfortable and settled, and passengers will find a quiet, well-equipped cabin that offers considerable versatility. Both the second- and third-row seats can fold away into the floor, a big convenience for times you need to maximize cargo space.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Owner Satisfaction with:

Driving Experience

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

"Transmission often lags. Sometimes makes hard shifts."

Anonymous, ME (2014 Dodge Grand Caravan)

"Surprisingly powerful engine and transmission combo. Van is quick off the line and can easily spin the front wheels. Tracks well and pulls through heavy snow when equipped w/ snow tires. Handling is reasonable for a minivan. Fuel mileage is quite good for a big V-6 engine in a large van. The 8-speed auto trans probably helps here."

Steven R., MI (2014 Dodge Grand Caravan)

"This van is our only vehicle so we use it every day. We find the handling to be very good around town and on extended trips. The acceleration is also very good."

Anonymous, NY (2014 Dodge Grand Caravan)

"Throttle has dangerous lagging response time in certain driving situations. When you step on the gas there is a delay before the engine responds causing me to step on it harder and then there is too much power to control."

Anonymous, MA (2014 Dodge Grand Caravan)

"Adequate but not superior acceleration and handling always enjoy a trip in it"

David S., ON (2014 Dodge Grand Caravan)

"a much tighter feel than our 2006. The acceleration is excellent and handling feels very precise and secure -no wandering about like the '06 we have and much less tendency to oversteer in corners (run wide). The larger wheels and tires minimize a lot of the smaller bumps and road surface imperfections. We love it"

William M., ON (2014 Dodge Grand Caravan)

"I was very unhappy that my transmission failed at about 48,000. I was driving from AZ to MA and just north of Indianapolis the transmission failed. I had to stay in a motel (with 3 cats) and the next day the vehicle wasn't fixed so I rented a car and drove to MA and flew back to Indianapolis the following week to pick up the van."

Christy C., AZ (2014 Dodge Grand Caravan)

"The minivan drives very good for a minivan, tight heavy direct steering. The engine is the best part of the minivan is smooth, quiet and very powerful. Fuel economy is average for the way i drive. The transmission is EH. Its either really smooth or really clunky. I have not had any issues with the transmission. the brakes are some of the best ive ever had out of the 15 others cars ive owned."

Celia C., IA (2014 Dodge Grand Caravan)

"Plenty of hp with 4.0L engine. Handles very well for a minivan. Turn radius could be better."

George U., MI (2014 Dodge Grand Caravan)

"I live in the country and it handles the curves and the less than perfect road surfaces very well. acceleration and braking are really good with thew right choice of aftermarket tires as well."

Anonymous, TX (2014 Dodge Grand Caravan)

"Excellent acceleration, I like having the power available when needed."

Penny P., WI (2014 Dodge Grand Caravan)

"Acceleration and braking are much better than the previous generation of Caravan. Handling is very good."

Anonymous, MD (2014 Dodge Grand Caravan)

"Solid and steady comfortable seats with adjustment. Solid good ride on highway even when loaded and using cruise. Easily Carrys 8X4 sheets of plywood and other items for traveling, wor, camping."

Anonymous, WI (2014 Dodge Grand Caravan)

"acceleration is barely adequate. handling is mushy"

Anonymous, MN (2014 Dodge Grand Caravan)

"This is our traveling vehicle. I like that we sit more upright than in a car and that you are slightly higher than in a car, for better view. I like that I can get 4'x8' sheetrock in."

Fred A., NM (2014 Dodge Grand Caravan)

"Slow acceleration, especially from stop. If driver steps on gas too hard to start (to compensate) tires will spin on dry pavement - no happy medium."

Anonymous, AB (2014 Dodge Grand Caravan)

"Power when I need it. Love the height over a car and it handles almost as good"

Julian K., TX (2014 Dodge Grand Caravan)

"The passengers sit high up, so it feels more like driving an SUV. It does fees more like driving a van/truck than a car. Transmission could be a lot smoother and engine could be less noisier. Turn in response is adequate for a vehicle of this size."

Michael S., MA (2014 Dodge Grand Caravan)

"The car is what I need, I would have had more options factory installed i.e. back up camera and satilite radio installed which I had later installed"

Bob C., NY (2014 Dodge Grand Caravan)

"It's the vercital vehicle I have ever own, I do more with this van then most guys do with their pick up trucks!"

Anonymous, RI (2014 Dodge Grand Caravan)

"Poor gas mileage"

Anonymous, RI (2014 Dodge Grand Caravan)

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"Very comfortable ride."

Christy C., AZ (2014 Dodge Grand Caravan)

"relatively noisy, ride is okay"

Anonymous, MN (2014 Dodge Grand Caravan)

"Feels well built and solid"

George U., MI (2014 Dodge Grand Caravan)

"The front seats in my 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan are not as comfortable as the front seats in my 2004 Chrysler Town and Country.9"

Anonymous, TX (2014 Dodge Grand Caravan)

"drivers side seat left side plastic support occasionally breaks and needs replacing."

Anonymous, MO (2014 Dodge Grand Caravan)

"The four captains seats are very comfortable even for large adults. I fish in Canada twice a year and we load the Caravan with equipment and 3 or 4 people and drive for 12 hours. It does the job very well."

Anonymous, WI (2014 Dodge Grand Caravan)

"Always comfortable great for short and long trips, Acceleration could be better but my other car is a viper"

David S., ON (2014 Dodge Grand Caravan)

"The cargo space with the seats down i great!"

John L., OH (2014 Dodge Grand Caravan)

"THhe minivan is very comfortable, much more so in the rear. Although the ride could be more plush, the whole van is very quiet and relaxing even at highway speeds. I have the cloth seats they look nice and are comfortable in the front. they are a bit too hard for me in the second row but not the third row its great."

Celia C., IA (2014 Dodge Grand Caravan)

"Front seats and 2nd row seats are acceptable. 3rd row is unacceptable. 3rd row is HARD!"

Carol M., TX (2014 Dodge Grand Caravan)

"Great leap forward from 2006, 6 way power with lumbar adjust sealed the deal for me - i can actually get comfortable. Much quieter and smoother on the road. A huge increase in refinement or steering feel and a big boost in power vs the 3.3L. Overall it feels much more substantial and solid on the road. We can't wait to take it on a long road trip"

William M., ON (2014 Dodge Grand Caravan)

"STo and Go, for folding middle seats into floor enablng 4x8 ft plywood sheets to be easily loaded in to van with tale gate closing."

Robert H., MD (2014 Dodge Grand Caravan)

"We find the seats to be very comfortable. We periodically take a 9 to 10 hour trip to family and have found the seats and ride to be very comfortable"

Anonymous, NY (2014 Dodge Grand Caravan)

"Good seating position, comfortable seats. Low noise level."

Paul M., IL (2014 Dodge Grand Caravan)

"Plenty of space for our teenagers, luggage and other items for a road trip without feeling cramped. The ride is smooth and the seats are comfortable (reclining, the cushions). A van is a must for a family, especially when they hit the teen years and you want to travel."

Anonymous, AZ (2014 Dodge Grand Caravan)

"This is a no frills vehicle that we use for long trips as well as my daughters triplets. It is comfortable, safe, and holds a lot of stuff."

Charles C., OH (2014 Dodge Grand Caravan)

"Seat cushions feel thin. Driver's seat is positioned such that the brake and accelerator pedals feel too far to the right and the lower dash and steering column cause knee abrasions."

Anonymous, MD (2014 Dodge Grand Caravan)

"Thin and lumpy"

Anonymous, WI (2014 Dodge Grand Caravan)

Value

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

"We got stow and go with our 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan. It has a lot of storage spaces. 2 hidden storage spaces that you can put stuff in where people going by your can't see it. The engine and the transmission has held up good, We have had only one recall on this van and that was the AC."

James M., GA (2014 Dodge Grand Caravan)

"It has a large volume that can be configured to fit almost any situation."

Anonymous, TX (2014 Dodge Grand Caravan)

"Good for hauling lots of stuff or people with seats unstowed. By far the least expensive minivan available at the time."

Peter O., MN (2014 Dodge Grand Caravan)

"Very good value for the price!"

Anonymous, MO (2014 Dodge Grand Caravan)

"The caravan is still one of the best minivan's for the dollar out there. I chose this over the Nissan and Toyota as it had more room inside"

Alan H., IL (2014 Dodge Grand Caravan)

"More space than a sub for the money."

John L., OH (2014 Dodge Grand Caravan)

"Priced at $25,000 for full size van. Honda and Toyota cost much more for features I got on my Grand Caravan. What was bad abut the Dodge van was engine oil filter canister, made of plastic, cracked. spilling engine oil all over my engine. Checking the internet I learned this was not an uncommon occurrence for which Dodge has failed to issue a recall. And for which it had become difficult o get the plastic oil filter canisters. Dodge dealer charged over $700 to clean the engine of the leaked oil and install a new plastic oil filter canister."

Robert H., MD (2014 Dodge Grand Caravan)

"20000 for a new Caravan that does all I need"

Julian K., TX (2014 Dodge Grand Caravan)

"Compared to the price of other minivans (Toyota, Honda, etc.), I got basically the same car for $12,000 less."

Anonymous, OR (2014 Dodge Grand Caravan)

"The Grand Caravan does require more frequent repairs than some other comparable vehicles but the price is so much lower that it's hard to justify the larger initial investment of the other vehicles. Also, it has unique convenience features that are unmatched in other comparable vehicles (e.g. Stow-n-go)"

Eric G., ON (2014 Dodge Grand Caravan)

"At the time of purchase, the Dodge GC was the lowest price minivan I could purchase. For the money, it offered the best value with all the options that we got. Stow N Go has been really useful and the Dodge is the only once that still offers it."

Michael S., MA (2014 Dodge Grand Caravan)

"I had the vehicle fitted for wheelchair conversion, i.e. floor lowered and a ramp installed by Braun for driving my son"

Bob C., NY (2014 Dodge Grand Caravan)

"Has great safety features and is very easy for transporting the family"

Anonymous, NJ (2014 Dodge Grand Caravan)
