A freshening didn't hide the fact this was a nine-year-old design. Once our top-rated small car, this version rated only midpack. It retained some of its agile handling, plus the composed ride and roomy interior. But fit and finish and noise remained weak points. Further, there was no longer a telescoping steering wheel, or assist handles to aid access. Braking distances got longer.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

"very sharp handling for a compact car"

SCOTT R., CT (2011 Ford Focus)

"Just don't feel a smooth ride, acceleration is not that great."

Anonymous, CA (2011 Ford Focus)

"Acceleration is standard for a 4 cylinder but there is no comparison to the Cmax"

TED W., ON (2011 Ford Focus)

"This is my son's car so I don't drive it much. Not nearly as good as the 2017 Escape."

Joseph M., MI (2011 Ford Focus)

"mileage, and handling"

Clarence B., IL (2011 Ford Focus)

"The car, even though it has only a four cylinder engine, has surprising pep, because it is quite light weight."

Michelle S., WA (2011 Ford Focus)

"Due to the relative light weight of this vehicle, even with a 4 cylinder engine, this car can take off!"

Michelle S., WA (2011 Ford Focus)

"I like how quickly it accelerates and it’s great turning radius. It handles well ."

Anonymous, AZ (2011 Ford Focus)

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"The interior is too small to be comfortable on longer trips. There is no place to put a trash receptacle, and no leg room to stretch or move about."

DOUGLAS B., PA (2011 Ford Focus)

"1) Biggest negative is the CLOCK - Ford Focus has this large space for the clock and TINY NUMBERS that I can hardly read. I called a glass company to see if I could buy a magnifying glass installed, but no luck!. 2) Drivers seat is hard, needs more cushioning."

SUSAN K., MI (2011 Ford Focus)

"Seats are fine, but find the car noisy, ride is not smooth, a/c is not powerful"

Anonymous, CA (2011 Ford Focus)

"Road noise is a little bit of an issue but it's not a luxury car so I expected it. I just wish it was a little quieter. I now commute to work and the seats are not comfortable when I have to drive the longer distance. I went from 7 miles to work up to 52 miles. Air conditioning doesn't work as well once the temperature reaches around 80-85 degrees."

LISA O., NJ (2011 Ford Focus)

"I am short and have had problems woth the seats not being high enought, this car lets me adjust seat hight"

Georgina B., SK (2011 Ford Focus)

"The seats are very comfortable and it rides well but road noise is a bit loud."

Anonymous, NY (2011 Ford Focus)

"Lack of noise insulation"

Anonymous, NY (2011 Ford Focus)

"I like the car generally."

Anonymous, OH (2011 Ford Focus)

"I find it very comfortable but it is very noisy."

Anonymous, VA (2011 Ford Focus)

"Ride is little harsh"

Anonymous, NC (2011 Ford Focus)

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

"It has been a reliable vehicle although miles driven per year are quite low."

Anonymous, ON (2011 Ford Focus)

"223, 000 miles and haven't replaced brakes. No problems and 40 mpg"

JEFF P., CA (2011 Ford Focus)

"I have had no issues with this vehicle."

Paul T., TX (2011 Ford Focus)

"Make sure the sales person know what the vehical actually has. Radio issues right from the start and voice commamd problems plus back door lock issues require persistent presure on dealer to fix. It took 5 years to get them fixed properly and only under extended warranty. I had to call extended warranty company and they in turn call the dealer amd told them all repairs were covered under their extended warranty insurance. Mileage is great. No major repairs, but only 60,000 km in first 5 years."

Georgina B., SK (2011 Ford Focus)

"Excellant MPG in city and highway. easy handling in city driving."

Sidney R., CT (2011 Ford Focus)

"Great but 25% off sticker price"

James M., OH (2011 Ford Focus)

"In 7 yrs, we have never had this car in the shop except for routine maintenance - oil changes, brake changes, new tires.. That is a very good value.. On the down side, this car is not cool at all. We don't feel sexy or chic in this little car, but it is great for a commuter car - we can xxxxxx our pride..."

Michelle S., WA (2011 Ford Focus)

"I paid under $20,000 out-the-door for this car and it has been extremely reliable. Have not had a single mechanical issue with the car. Excellent fuel economy, great handling, easy to maneuver, and fun to drive."

Anonymous, IL (2011 Ford Focus)

"Good value so far. But did have to get the lug nuts replaced because they were falling apart. That stinks of junk steel and corner cutting."

Anonymous, OH (2011 Ford Focus)

"I have definitely gotten my $20,000 worth from my Focus. It is economical, rugged and reliable. I have had only minor problems with it, and so far have paid for only expected maintenance. I hope to drive this car for some time."

Anonymous, GA (2011 Ford Focus)

"Gas mileage."

Clarence B., IL (2011 Ford Focus)

"38 MPG, 299,000 miles and haven't replaced brakes"

Jeff P., CA (2011 Ford Focus)

How it looks inside and out

What Owners Say

"I think almost all cars on the road look too much alike. I absolutely love that I have a fin on the back. It keeps the car from looking like a mom's car. I also like the sportier stearing wheel and the color I chose. It makes the car look sportier. I also like the way the sides are designed with a little bit of a concaved look which also gives it a little sportier look. A good functional car as well."

LISA O., NJ (2011 Ford Focus)
