2010 Ford Ranger Owner Satisfaction - Consumer Reports
The Ford Ranger falls far short of modern pickup-truck standards. It's ungainly and stiff-riding; has a rough, noisy and inefficient engine; plus a cramped and uncomfortable cabin. The interior is crudely finished too. Compact dimensions and a usefully sized bed are the Ranger's only pluses.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Owner Satisfaction with:

Driving Experience

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

"The V-6 engine in the Ranger provides a great towing experience and plenty of acceleration when empty. It has a comfortable ride for a truck and is rattle free."

Jerry H., SC (2010 Ford Ranger)

"great"

James H., OH (2010 Ford Ranger)

"The truck drives and handles well. The 4 cyl. 5 speed is quite peppy and powerful enough to pull a load."

Roger H., TN (2010 Ford Ranger)

"Poor acceleration and is harder to stop then the Honda"

Anonymous, CA (2010 Ford Ranger)

"It takes a lot of pedal to get it rolling, but once it gets going it's ok. Have to be careful on turns at all times, system is old school."

Anonymous, NS (2010 Ford Ranger)

"Drives much more like sports car than Tank like many older trucks."

R L., TN (2010 Ford Ranger)

"For a 4-cyl. 5-speed it has good acceleration and is comfortable to drive long distances. On rough roads the tail bounces a bit and can be a bit swervy, but manageable. It is put together well and no rattles/squeaks. It gets good gas mileage, as expected. It is easy and economical to operate and maintain. The interior is a bit spartan, but quit functional. All controls are within easy reach and functional. The exterior is smooth and well made. Body panels can take a pretty good lick without dent..."

Roger H., TN (2010 Ford Ranger)

"Accelerates wells and is stable"

Anonymous, CA (2010 Ford Ranger)

"Choppy ride when empty. Evens out when loaded"

William A., KY (2010 Ford Ranger)

"It is an automatic and I prefer a manual transmission"

Anonymous, AL (2010 Ford Ranger)

"Great power in driving. The only problem is the poor gas mileage."

Anonymous, WI (2010 Ford Ranger)

"Very good acceleration from the 4L V6, until you have bad fuel injectors. It handles pretty well except the back end's really loose when wet! Too bad Ford doesn't Rangers any more. I owned a 2001 before this."

JAMES L., NV (2010 Ford Ranger)

"ok"

NORMAN M., WA (2010 Ford Ranger)

"It has been used a lot to pull a small travel trailer, which it has done very well"

Anonymous, WA (2010 Ford Ranger)

"Good all around small pickup"

P C., AL (2010 Ford Ranger)

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"The seats are too high for a tall person like me and they are set and can't be adjusted."

Anonymous, NS (2010 Ford Ranger)

"It is exactly what you would expect from a small pick-up. Relatively comfortable even on long trips even for a big man. Cabin is quiet enough. There is some rear-end bounce on rough roads but built in systems help control. All in all I love my Ranger."

Roger H., TN (2010 Ford Ranger)

"Seats are comfortable and a good fit for me. Excellent driver position,"

T N., AZ (2010 Ford Ranger)

"Ride is too stiff."

William R., CA (2010 Ford Ranger)

"Seats are hard, noise and ride are not bad."

Anonymous, CA (2010 Ford Ranger)

T N., AZ (2010 Ford Ranger)

"Ride"

Anonymous, GA (2010 Ford Ranger)

"The seats are easily adjusted and comfortable to ride in"

Ron C., BC (2010 Ford Ranger)

"Seat are not comfortable, hard to put covers on the driver seat because of how extended the middle part is."

Anonymous, CA (2010 Ford Ranger)

"The ride is quite rough..."

Anonymous, MD (2010 Ford Ranger)

"As with the Honda Civic, I drive a full size sedan and prefer the comfort of a car over a truck. But as compact trucks go, it rides nicely."

E L., CT (2010 Ford Ranger)

"front edge of seat too square, should be more rounded"

MICHAEL H., NY (2010 Ford Ranger)

"It rides a bit bumpy, feels the road. Rear wheel traction bad without a load. Both windows jump going down - very irritating and dealer "can't" fix it."

JAMES L., NV (2010 Ford Ranger)

"Seats not heated. Single zone temperature control. Road noise loud."

Anonymous, WI (2010 Ford Ranger)

"Very comfortable, smooth well controlled ride"

MARTIN B., ON (2010 Ford Ranger)

"Most comfortable auto we have had in years"

R L., TN (2010 Ford Ranger)

Value

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

"it is a great truck"

James H., OH (2010 Ford Ranger)

"Got Ranger at a great price. Have had to spend less than $800 in repairs over the eight years I have owned it. Additionally, it consistently gets over 22 MPG with 26 on the highway. Hope the new Ranger does not go the way Chevy went with the Colorado - bigger and uglier."

Anonymous, MS (2010 Ford Ranger)

"The cost vs. benefit ratio for this V-6, mid-size truck is excellent. It will do anything a larger truck will do and at a lower price point with better gas mileage. Unfortunately, Ford no longer makes a Ranger truck."

Jerry H., SC (2010 Ford Ranger)

"Economic and just right size for most truck owners."

R L., TN (2010 Ford Ranger)

"Very good price compared to Toyota Tacoma"

Anonymous, SK (2010 Ford Ranger)

"For a small pick-up truck it is best in class. I have never experienced any problems with the truck. It runs well gets great gas mileage in town and on the road. I have taken several long trips in it and performance and comfort are certainly on par with what you would expect for a small/light truck. It has surprisingly good hauling ability and load capacity. I will seriously consider a new Ranger whe it is again offered."

Roger H., TN (2010 Ford Ranger)

"Low cost. 22-25 MPG. Good carrying capacity."

Anonymous, OR (2010 Ford Ranger)

"Reliable, trouble free performance in 7 years of ownership"

William A., KY (2010 Ford Ranger)

"good sound cheap truck."

CHARLES C., GA (2010 Ford Ranger)

"Good, reliabe performing truck"

Anonymous, KY (2010 Ford Ranger)

"good truck"

NORMAN M., WA (2010 Ford Ranger)

"I have always bought Ford Rangers and this is best I have ever owned, I have always considered all of them a great value."

R L., TN (2010 Ford Ranger)

Anonymous, MS (2010 Ford Ranger)

"Very well built durable vehicle. Not one problem since new. Very capable off road."

MICHAEL V., AB (2010 Ford Ranger)

How it looks inside and out

"big enough for my purposes and small enough for my driveway"

Anonymous, FL (2010 Ford Ranger)
