What Owners Say
"Torque converter would shudder as if on a washboard road or rumble strips."
Anonymous, GA (2017 GMC Canyon Denali 3.6-L V6)"Transmission developed shudder maintaining interstate speeds (55+). Found technical service bulletin for issue. Torque converter had to be replaced. Vehicle was at dealership for over two weeks -- very disappointing."
Joey M., IN (2017 GMC Canyon SLE 3.6-L V6)"Rough and surprising clunking shifts. Slow shifting. Hesitation. Tranny banged down a shift harder than felt proper. Clunks down a gear with pronounced thud. Apparently there is a GM fix in USA but in Canada have heard nothing. Switching to Mobile 1 LV ATF HP (Part # 122210) should solve problem ref GM Service Bulletin. Very annoying."
Brian R., AB (2017 GMC Canyon SLT 3.6-L V6)"First time completed flushing of system and used different fluid, second time replaced torque converter, all within first 10,000 - 12000 miles. Now at 23,000 mile problem has returned."
Anonymous, NY (2017 GMC Canyon SLT 3.6-L V6)"Experienced vibration at about 55 to 60 mph."
Anonymous, TX (2017 GMC Canyon SLE 3.6-L V6)"Loud thumping noise after 20,000. Relaced under warranty."
Anonymous, NC (2017 GMC Canyon SLT 3.6-L V6)"noisy"
Anonymous, TX (2017 GMC Canyon 3.6-L V6)"Transmission shudder, torque converter replaced in 2019"
Anonymous, VA (2017 GMC Canyon SLE 3.6-L V6)"Trans got really loud, but it happened gradually so I didn't notice at first (thought it might be tire noise)"
Anonymous, AZ (2017 GMC Canyon SLT 2.8-L 4 Cyl diesel)"The dealership replaced the torque converter"
Anonymous, (2017 GMC Canyon SLT 3.6-L V6)"Problem has resulted in three repairs. First visit in 2018 resulted in flush and new fluid. Second repair in 2019 resulted in replacement of torque converter. Third visit resulted in a second new torque converter in 2019. So far no recurrence of problem. While frustrating, I must commend the dealership for standing by their product and providing a good loaner vehicle."
Anonymous, NY (2017 GMC Canyon SLT 3.6-L V6)"Torque Converter replaced 4 times. The newest one lasted 19000 miles, but it is showing signs of the same issue."
Anonymous, AL (2017 GMC Canyon SLT 3.6-L V6)"I was pulling my trailer and collector car to a car show. It was noticed for a couple of days but I thought it was road noise. When I was towing from St Louis to Columbus. OHIO It really got noisy. It was as if I was driving on the roadside wakeup bar. I took it into the dealer the next morning and the monitored the truck with a computer OBD computer. He could see the torque converter cutting in and out, causing the vibration. He said the torque converter needs to be replaced, but the could not get to the repair for three weeks! I had no choice I traded for a different truck so I could get home."
Anonymous, IL (2017 GMC Canyon SLT 3.6-L V6)"Vehicle started making noise similar to rear tire issues. GMC dealership repaired with new torque converter at no cost."
Anonymous, NC (2017 GMC Canyon Denali 3.6-L V6)"This item was replaced by the dealer to eliminate the jerkiness when changing gears. However, this did not eliminate the problem."
Anonymous, FL (2017 GMC Canyon SLT 3.6-L V6)"Truck abruptly and uncomfortably lurches forward when stopping as the truck downshifts to first gear. Service manager and assistant service manager on test drives agreed there was a problem. On three different service occasions, (having the truck in the shop for a total of six weeks) they first changed the shift valve - got the truck back with no improvement. Second attempt, they changed out the torque converter - got the truck back with no improvement. Third attempt, they replaced the transmission with a rebuilt unit. Got the truck back with no improvement. Then I was told GM was coming out with a fix for the problem (which also, by the way, afflicted many GM vehicles) in the way of a special transmission fluid. Because this fluid was in such demand, they told me they call me when it came in which might take a while. EIGHT MONTHS LATER, after hearing nothing from the dealer, I went to see the owner of the dealership, who said to me, Wait here while I talk to the service manager. When he returned, He told me he was informed by the service manager that the new fluid would NOT fix the problem and they had no intention of trying it because, THE TRANSMISSION IN YOUR VEHICLE IS WITHIN SPECS AND RUNNING AS DESIGNED. He also admitted the service director lied to me but 'Don't Worry - He was reprimanded. They refused any further fixes, and I'm stuck with being jolted in this truck till the lease is up on 8/20. Will never consider a GM vehicle ever again"

"GMC replaced a value in the transmission which solved 90% of the shifting problems but still shift rough at 20 mph either shifting down or up. I will be taking it back to the dealer."
