GMC Sierra 1500 Road Test

The Sierra and its Chevrolet Silverado twin are well-rounded pickups with an available full-time 4WD system and generous payload capacity. Ride quality is decent with the Z85 suspension and handling is secure with standard ESC. High-end models have very good interior fit and finish, but all have simple controls. A luxurious Sierra Denali model has permanent AWD and a powerful 6.2-liter V8. The crew cab is roomy with easy access. A six-speed automatic slightly improved fuel economy and acceleration with the tested 5.3-liter V8. We found the hybrid considerably improved fuel economy in our tested Tahoe hybrid. IIHS side-crash-test results are acceptable.
