"Head gasket blew and caused engine overheating"

Anonymous, (2003 Honda Civic EX 1.7-L 4 Cyl)

"I have had 3 mechanics tell me it's a head gasket. Pressure builds up in the cooling system so that the overflow tank fills completely. However when the engine cools the pressure remains and the overflow tank does NOT refill the radiator...At this point I had never overheated the engine & I've had the car since 2008 and put 70,000 miles on it. It did take awhile for me & mechanics to understand what was happening. No h2o in oil, no clouds of smoke when starting engine & no rough running just pressure enough to blow a hose off bottom of radiator. Currently after replacing radiator cap 3 or 4 times, new radiatior, & hoses, new thermostates 2 or 3 times, now there is no thermostat & the cap is rigged to allow pressure to escape. Just add H20 often and avoid hills which is a challenge since I live 7 miles up Haleakala volcano. Driving this way for 4 years"

"There is a none problem with this airbag system. The Honda mechanic says, to be confirm it has to do a test, but he's pretty sure he knows what it is. He says it's a common problem with these cars. The whole system must be replaced. The replacement cost about $300. Unless it's replaced the airbag won't work. It's actually not a problem with the airbag. He said it would actually work fine, but because of this problem the system is turned off. I don't want to pay 300 bucks to get it fixed. I believe Honda should pay.
