The Honda Civic is refined and economical, with fairly nimble handling and a relatively comfortable ride. The aerodynamic styling of the Civic looks futuristic, but sacrifices ease of access. Pronounced road noise remains a complaint. Stability control is standard only on the EX-L, Hybrid, and Si models.

What Owners Say

"It accelerates well, is very nimble in traffic, and has a solid, on center feel in highway driving."

Anonymous, CA (2006 Honda Civic)

"it is manual transmission and only 1.8L engine so fun to drive but not powerful enough to get me in trouble. Honda engines are great - i can drop it down to 4th gear on highway and get respectable acceleration. Handling is very responsive. it is a basic car but with manual transmission, quite fun to drive (and in the winter, in the snow, gives you good control gearing down instead of breaking)"

Karim F., ON (2006 Honda Civic)

"It is very responsive, easy to handle, and accelerates smoothly. I like its handling very much."

Kathleen A., AZ (2006 Honda Civic)

"acceleration & handling exquisite& fast! exceptionally good for short highway merge/entry lanes."

Claire B., DE (2006 Honda Civic)

"The electric boost makes navigating the freeways a cinch. The nimble handling has helped me avoid numerous collisions and lots of road hazards over the years, and makes parking a breeze."

Edmond C., OR (2006 Honda Civic)

"The vehicle hugs the road and takes curves with ease. Acceleration is acceptable but it's not a speedster. The vehicle is fun to drive."

James U., PA (2006 Honda Civic)

"This car LOVES to go. Handles well."

Steven C., MD (2006 Honda Civic)

"Slow to accelerate, poor turning radius, and poor visibility."

"Handles very well and responds quickly to steering needs."

Anonymous, ON (2006 Honda Civic)

"Extremely nimble in steering and acceleration"

Anonymous, MA (2006 Honda Civic)

"Excellent acceleration and handling"

Anonymous, AB (2006 Honda Civic)

"Good: product takes very little maintenance although I use Honda for oil change, etc. Large area for bags, etc., terrific especially when back seat is down. Acceleration excellent. Overall an excellent car. Bad: view to right is hampered by structure brace."

Anonymous, WA (2006 Honda Civic)

"Slow acceleration getting in freeway"

Anonymous, CA (2006 Honda Civic)

"Normal for 4 cylinders"

Arthur M., MA (2006 Honda Civic)

"It has good acceleration and handling while driving on a rural road or busy highway."

Anonymous, FL (2006 Honda Civic)

"Plenty of power to meet driving needs and still gets 35 mpg."

George S., MO (2006 Honda Civic)

"perfect combination of power, size, weight, handling."

Sander S., CA (2006 Honda Civic)

"The car handles like a true sports car. The car had good acceleration stock but after the new exhaust, cold air intake, and hondata upgrade the cars acceleration rivals that of an STi. The car should have traction control built in for the winter but other than that with good tires the car doesn't do bad in the snow."

Cody G., PA (2006 Honda Civic)

"The civic has good pickup but the steering is too tight."

Michael B., RI (2006 Honda Civic)

"At 200000 miles, this car is still tight and easily controlled. Brakes, handling, acceleration, fuel economy are all very good to excellent. In short, it is fun to drive."

Anonymous, GA (2006 Honda Civic)

"If the hybrid battery is low, acceleration is very poor"

R S., IN (2006 Honda Civic)

"For a small car, it handles very well. It is easy to maneuver, braking is good, having the power to get on the freeway, etc. is good. For a car, it has been our best."

Anonymous, OH (2006 Honda Civic)

"Acceleration is acceptable when merging into traffic at highway speeds and changing lanes."

Anonymous, ON (2006 Honda Civic)

"Good low end torque makes acceleration better than many other higher priced cars"

Anonymous, NY (2006 Honda Civic)

"Visibility mediocre and paint or clear coat peeling."

Brian W., CA (2006 Honda Civic)

"This car feels safe."

Anonymous, WI (2006 Honda Civic)

"I'm not a race car driver ... this car completely satisfies me"

Anonymous, CA (2006 Honda Civic)

"This car is my zoom-zoom. Great car for town use. A bit noisy on the highway. The engine block cracked at 49,000 miles and was repaired under warranty. The gas gauge has worked intermittently since 40k. $700 to repair. Too expensive. Have had problems with door hardware and audio speakers."

Michael M., FL (2006 Honda Civic)

"It's acceleration is great, I get going very quickly. It handles well. goes in and out of traffic easily, turns sharply."

Anonymous, MA (2006 Honda Civic)

"Still quick and nimble for a 12 year old car."

Anonymous, NV (2006 Honda Civic)

"Great handling in tight spots. Good acceleration in tricky situations."

Kathy T., SC (2006 Honda Civic)

"LOVE the car and how it handles all driving situations"

Rachel B., NY (2006 Honda Civic)

"The best 12 year old car I have ever had"

M H., ON (2006 Honda Civic)

"Still peppy in acceleration and maneuvering"

Anonymous, MD (2006 Honda Civic)

"Since this car had a stick shift this just makes this car fun to drive. Better to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow"

Anonymous, NJ (2006 Honda Civic)

"Long lasting body paint, and leather of seats. Also gas mileage."

Anonymous, GA (2006 Honda Civic)

"With over 143000 miles, it still performs (acceleration etc.) as it did when new."

Anonymous, CO (2006 Honda Civic)

"Handling is great. Still handles curves beautifully. Ride is good. Accceleration is very good. We are talking about a 2006 and the civic hangs right in there with other newer model brands."

Elaine W., PA (2006 Honda Civic)

"While not a sporty car, it has more than adequate power for acceleration (given its small size) and handles very reliably."

Tom D., WA (2006 Honda Civic)

"Sluggish acceleration when AC is on. Zippy otherwise. Hugs turns."

Jason F., NJ (2006 Honda Civic)

"It is "jumpy"--does not smoothly accelerate from a stop."

Anonymous, RI (2006 Honda Civic)

"Handling is OK for a 2006 subcompact. Acceleration and power, however, have gotten significantly worse over the life of the vehicle, and a hesitation/stumble (from a stop) developed around 65,000 miles, which mechanics have never been able to figure out."

Anonymous, MD (2006 Honda Civic)

"quick and easily handled."

Anonymous, MN (2006 Honda Civic)

"The acceleration is almost non-existent. The vehicle is underpowered especially when the A/C is on. Handling is mediocre; car slightly skips when driving over washboard type roads."

Anonymous, NY (2006 Honda Civic)

"The manual transmission makes this car a pleasure to drive. Acceleration is OK and handling is secure."

John H., MO (2006 Honda Civic)

"Drives well but I do not like the rally steering just not use to it."

Anonymous, NE (2006 Honda Civic)

Anonymous, PA (2006 Honda Civic)

"Handling is very good, but power is non-existant."

Anonymous, AB (2006 Honda Civic)

"It was great the first few years. Now at 134,000 miles, it has lost its pickup. Kind of like trying to get a mule to move."

Anonymous, NY (2006 Honda Civic)

"Fun to drive. good acceleration. Too low to ground. My husband hits every curb when parking and gets stuck in 4" of snow."

Anonymous, SC (2006 Honda Civic)

"Acceleration is not too good. Handling is OK at best."

Anonymous, NJ (2006 Honda Civic)

"I have a manual transmission and this car has power, it grips the road fabulously and it handles incredible in the snow. Repairs have all been preventive maintenance and breaks. I will buy another Honda for sure,"

BARBARA B., OH (2006 Honda Civic)

"Acceleration is quick, I'm usually ahead of other cars when the light turns green. I can easily go in and out of highway lanes."

Anonymous, MA (2006 Honda Civic)

"good around town"

DAN S., PA (2006 Honda Civic)

"The car feels nice n tight. It handles well. Acceleration is fine for this type of car. The body feels strong and solid after all these years."

ZENON S., VA (2006 Honda Civic)

"Coming from a 1995 Accord ex, the 06 Civic's acceleration leaves a little to be desired, but when factoring in the significant increase in fuel economy, it seems like a somewhat acceptable trade off. I bought the civic primarily for fuel economy. The unrecalled factory defective rear upper control arms had wasted the initial tires I put on it, and having not much tread depth left, I have not pushed the civic in handling, but it seems very capable. Response and cornering reminds me of the old vw"

JESSE P., PA (2006 Honda Civic)

"Poor power and acceleration. New engine at 100K. Does not handle well, rear of vehicle hops out in hard cornering."

DWIGHT D., AB (2006 Honda Civic)

"Engine power is low, but sufficient, handling is superb, very responsive steering, excellent anti-lock 4 wheel discs."

SANDER S., CA (2006 Honda Civic)

"The acceleration and deceleration feels delayed"

Anonymous, NY (2006 Honda Civic)

"Good, solid car with minimal frills. Engine is losing some power in uphill driving."

VANCE M., AZ (2006 Honda Civic)

"My first set of tires only lasted for 3000 miles but Honda did prorated them and fixed a problem that they knew about on a service bulletin. I also had to get winter tires on if I wanted to drive it in the snow. This was all eight years ago, been great since."

DERICK D., ME (2006 Honda Civic)

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"too low to the ground Honda civic view out back window Prius"

Anonymous, NY (2006 Honda Civic)

"The seats are comfortable with an okay ride. Road noise is medium but not unbearable."

Alan M., AZ (2006 Honda Civic)

"Fairly comfortable for a small car but noisy."

Anonymous, CO (2006 Honda Civic)

"I am 6’3‿ tall and the drver’s leg room is better than some full size cars I’ve driven"

Anonymous, TN (2006 Honda Civic)

"Afree 12 years of use, the seats are not as comfortable and the noise level has increased when I am on freeways."

Nancy C., MO (2006 Honda Civic)

"Cloth seats are comfortable and durable. Ride is firm but not too harsh. Road noise is acceptable but is noisier with winter tires."

Anonymous, ON (2006 Honda Civic)

"Road noise- bad"

Albert S., NJ (2006 Honda Civic)

"Limited seat adjustment on the Civic but the seats feel just RIGHT. Smooth riding on highway; feel relaxed after a long drive."

Craig B., MB (2006 Honda Civic)

"The road noise is pretty loud. One of the very few complaints I have about the car."

Anonymous, PA (2006 Honda Civic)

"As I get older, the low entry gets harder to get through. Noise on the highway, however, is the biggest issue. Also, when raining yet warm, and I want to lower the driver's window a bit, water drips in from the roof (not the rain directly) and lands on the window control knobs, some of which are no longer working."

Edmond C., OR (2006 Honda Civic)

"The seat is loose in it's track so it rocks a little."

Anonymous, IL (2006 Honda Civic)

"For us the car is too low so getting in and out is more difficult now than when we were younger. The other item is driver visibility is poor when making a left turn because of the angle of the window posts. So it is easy to miss a pedestrian or another car that is concealed by this post."

Anonymous, CA (2006 Honda Civic)

"Winter tires are very noisy"

Anonymous, AB (2006 Honda Civic)

"hard ride (suspension) over rough roads. Noisy."

Anonymous, ON (2006 Honda Civic)

"This is a small car and I feel like I am dragging my butt. Although the seats, when new, wrapped around me and with the steering wheel and dash, made me feel like I was driving in my own world thT I had all control in. Now? Too much road noise, too low to the ground... I feel like I am crawling out of a hole. Not as comfortable as when newer."

Joy R., NM (2006 Honda Civic)

"The door seal for the front passenger seat has started to come away from the frame. I tried to fix it but with no success. I know others who have had this problem with Honda Civic. This is a pain"

Nancy M., ON (2006 Honda Civic)

"Very noisy and uncomfortable ride. Acceleration entering freeway is slow"

Anonymous, CA (2006 Honda Civic)

"The seats are horrible in the Civic on long trips. Just traveling around town, it's fine and I have a 45 miute commute, which the comfort level isn't bad for that time period. The road noise is also bad. If you let the back windows down it is a loud roar."

Ginger D., AL (2006 Honda Civic)

"Comfort is average. Not the most comfortable car for long trips. Road noise is more than I like and the ride is somewhat stiff. One has to really slow down for speed bumps."

Anonymous, ID (2006 Honda Civic)

"seats do not fit well for 5'3'' driver..."

Claire B., DE (2006 Honda Civic)

"too much road noise"

Anonymous, NJ (2006 Honda Civic)

"seats are comfortable for about 10 minutes and then they are too hard, do not adjust easily or well. The upholstery holds up well, though."

Nan J., CA (2006 Honda Civic)

"my civic is a four door sedan. the front doors are large & heavy & do not stay open when you are exiting the car."

Rick S., OH (2006 Honda Civic)

"The seats guarantee that you will not be able to stand up after two hours of driving!"

R W., MI (2006 Honda Civic)

"It is hard to get in and out of the car because the seats sit low and because the doors don't want to stay ajar long enough to let someone get out."

Anonymous, TX (2006 Honda Civic)

"Noise level too high. Condition of overall very good"

Anonymous, GA (2006 Honda Civic)

"One word. Loud. Road noise is open body loud. Honda just went overboard to save weight by eliminating sound dampening."

Robert C., CA (2006 Honda Civic)

"Noisy, CU warned me but I purchased for economy"

S A., PA (2006 Honda Civic)

"It is a noisy ride. MORE Sound proofing would have been nice. Seats could have been more comfortable."

Anonymous, ON (2006 Honda Civic)

"The front seats are very comfortable as are the rear seats. The road noise is a little louder than I like, but it is acceptable. The suspension handles shocks well."

Lawrence L., NY (2006 Honda Civic)

"There is a lot of road noise; seats are uncomfortable. The suspension makes popping and creaking noises going over small bumps and uneven roads."

Anonymous, NY (2006 Honda Civic)

"On the road, driving at highway speeds, it is very, very noisy inside the car due to road noise. very expensive to repair the air conditioner - almost $5000"

Anonymous, TX (2006 Honda Civic)

"Road noise. Lumbar support ok for a commuter vehicle but not long trips."

Anonymous, AZ (2006 Honda Civic)

"Interior noise (wind, road noise)."

Anonymous, GA (2006 Honda Civic)

"Seats are very good. This is a noisy car - we've tried several different tire brands. The worst experience was with Pirelli P6 tires. It is somewhat better with Yokohamas, but overall, I think the issue is the overall 'noise' design of the Honda."

Helen N., CA (2006 Honda Civic)

"It's a commuter box. It has done what it needed to do for 11 years. Drove it on a long trip in 2014, and comfort was fine going 5,000 km with just two of us. Backseats are for short distance use only by adults. Will be replacing it soon."

Anonymous, ON (2006 Honda Civic)

"The seats are actually very good for a 'base level' coupe. What is not so great is the noise level. Tires make a difference, but no matter which tires you have this is a somewhat noisy car. We had Pirelli P6 Cinturatos and changes to Yokohama's, which helped somewhat, but noise insulation is not good."

Stephen N., CA (2006 Honda Civic)

"As both I and the car age, I find I needed to add a lumbar support cushion. That makes the car acceptable for commuting."

Anonymous, PA (2006 Honda Civic)

"Seat not comfortable"

Anonymous, NC (2006 Honda Civic)

"This model has a lot of road noise, it's a basic older model so not surprised."

KAREN N., IN (2006 Honda Civic)

"Road noise is above average."

Anonymous, CA (2006 Honda Civic)

"The civic is a great little car, except that it is very loud. As i get older and my hearing its getting worse, i am more sensitive to car noise."

GORDON J., VA (2006 Honda Civic)

"seats are comfortable enough but the car is pretty low to the ground and getting out is more difficult as I get older. the ride has always been rather firm and the noise level somewhat high but mechanically, except for having to replace the starter motor, the car has been sound."

S S., CA (2006 Honda Civic)

"it is a noisy bumpy ride"

Anonymous, MO (2006 Honda Civic)

"Drivers seat pump which controls altitude of seat leaks so you must every third day pump it up to proper level. General ride is not as comfortable as I would like and road noise is too loud."

A B., IL (2006 Honda Civic)

"Says are much too low."

B R., QC (2006 Honda Civic)

"The seats should have a lumbar support. The head rest is at a very uncomfortable angle and is not adjustable. I pulled it out and turned it around."

TERRYLYNNE M., AR (2006 Honda Civic)

"FRONT SUSPENSION WAS TOTALLY SHOT BY 75000 MILES. REAR SUSPENSION IS POOR AS WELL. CAR HAS ALWAYS RIDDEN A LITTLE ROUGH FROM NEW CONDITION AS OPPOSED TO MY TOYOTAS."

Anonymous, MS (2006 Honda Civic)

"I am just under 6 feet tall. I find the ergonomics of this vehicle marginal, especially for my back and feet."

TERRY T., VA (2006 Honda Civic)

"Both the seats and the ride are comfortable and will hold 4 people with plenty of leg room and can fit a fifth person on back. The heat and air both work pretty well. Some noise is the worst problem."

DON F., WI (2006 Honda Civic)

"very noisy, road noise a little less with windows closed, but not much"

S A., PA (2006 Honda Civic)

"Civic has an unreasonable amount of road and engine noise."

Anonymous, VA (2006 Honda Civic)

"Car is very noisy ride. Sometimes it is difficult to accelerate into merging traffic. Too low in front donut scrapes in parking spaces. Can't see over the hood to gauge distance"

Anonymous, CA (2006 Honda Civic)

"Driver seat is noticeably less comfortable than the passenger-side front seat due to less support from the foam in the seat."

MARK P., FL (2006 Honda Civic)

"road noise is a bit loud"

STUART N., CA (2006 Honda Civic)

"If I adjust the seat to a comfortable height, the sunvisor barely clears my head and is difficult to move to the best position."

Anonymous, WA (2006 Honda Civic)

"I am tall. It is difficult to get my head into the car because of the slant of the door frame. Once inside the vehicle I am very comfortable."

ROBERT M., CA (2006 Honda Civic)

"don't like the riding position, not comfortable and not good viewing"

Anonymous, IL (2006 Honda Civic)

"Noisy"

DMITRIY K., CA (2006 Honda Civic)

"Good: Seats are reasonably comfortable and adjustable over a sufficient range. Bad: Head support for seats is not great (but that seems to be true of about all cars)"

Anonymous, MD (2006 Honda Civic)

"Honda Civic seats are good but ride is somewhat bumpy. But this is a sporty sedan so can't complain too much."

RICHARD H., PA (2006 Honda Civic)

"noise, hard ride"

Anonymous, FL (2006 Honda Civic)

"This is an LX model that is 10 years old. The climate control is very basic, but it works. I have snow tires installed and the road noise is very high. The ride is very much "sporty.""

RICHARD C., MA (2006 Honda Civic)

"I would love this car except for two factors. Its horrible uncomfortable seats. The back and headrest do not fit average women. I can put a cushion on the seat but it is still a bad angle for my back. Also the car's fan is very noisy. Not sure why"

SOURAYAN M., AB (2006 Honda Civic)

"Dash controls are intuitive and easy to use while driving."

Anonymous, MA (2006 Honda Civic)

"I often use the cruise control, when I do I pull my foot away from the accelerator and relax. This causes my knee to always have to rest against the center console forward of the gear shift selector. Makes it uncomfortable for any length of time."

MARC S., WA (2006 Honda Civic)

"Acceleration could be somewhat better, with our without the air conditioner on, but especially with ac on. I generally turn off the ac when entering a highway, then turn it on again when I get up to speed. Seats could use more lumbar support and headrests could be straighter. Without a pillow in the lumbar area, lower back is too far back and head feels pushed forward."

Anonymous, MA (2006 Honda Civic)

"My wife and I were 10 years younger when we purchased the Civic. At that time we were in our 50s and getting in/out of a vehicle was not an issue for us. Now that were are in our mod to late 60s getting in/out of the Civic is a bit more challenging. The Civic has been a great car for us but our next purchase will probably be something that is easier for us to get in and out of like an SUV."

KENNETH F., IL (2006 Honda Civic)

"On long rides the seats offer really good lumbar support and the driving position is excellent. Good all around visibility."

ZENON S., VA (2006 Honda Civic)

"The seats are not comfortable. I have to use an obus form but find the Toyota Corolla seats more comfortable. Cooling and heating has always been slow in the Civic."

Anonymous, ON (2006 Honda Civic)

"Compressor is a known issue as being faulty and going bad with theses vehicles. AC has been out for 3 years now and it's not worth fixing. Though this vehicle did its job as a commuter, I will be glad to get rid of it."

AARON O., VA (2006 Honda Civic)

"very comfortable seats all around, quiet ride"

SABATINO P., ON (2006 Honda Civic)

"As I get older the low seats in the civic are less enjoyable. Need a change"

Anonymous, ON (2006 Honda Civic)

"It is just a terrific value. So dependable, comfortable and fun to drive."

Anonymous, IL (2006 Honda Civic)

"I bought the car almost new (2.000Km) in 2007. Since then, all i have done is (very regular) change the oil, tires, brakes, serpentine belt, battery (normal wear and tear) and only this year, the alternator. I haven't even changed the battery in my key fob. The engine was changed about 3 years ago - under Honda warranty - so no cost to me. it is an incredible car - it is about 12 years old and i think i can still get at least 3 more without major repairs. Hoping to get 500,000Km out of the car. Best advice i can give - change oil every 5,000K / check belts and filters regularly."

Arthur M., MA (2006 Honda Civic)

"The Honda Civic is a great value. It handles the road with ease and corners like a go cart. Acceleration is acceptable and no problems of any kind have occurred since I bought it in 2006. The ride is a bit stiff but just fine for local driving, not for road trips though. It's a funcar to drive."

Gerald J., PA (2006 Honda Civic)

"Good value, but not exceptional. The good news is that it still has reasonable 'trade-in' value for an 11 year old car. The bad news is that it was fairly expensive for its 'class' in 2006."

Helen N., CA (2006 Honda Civic)

"fun to drive, 1.6 ltr. a bit anemic but gets me out of trouble when i need to. very cheap on fuel, decent brakes. reliable and repairs reasenable"

"The Honda Civic GX (Natural Gas Power ICE) burns clean with few emissions, so much so that if you look into the tail pipe, it looks brand new with shiny metal interior, even after 150k miles! The CNG fuel is a better environmental choice, is priced lower, and has less price fluctuations than gasoline or diesel."

"The Honda Civic is a reliable almost maintenance free car. It has just been in the last 2 years that certain items need repair. Car has close to 175,000 miles still runs fantastically. Needed a new compressor but acceptable . Car is going on 12 years old,and only major repair has been the air conditioner. It is a safe car and one where you get more bag for your buck."

"originaly bought a 2006 Civic Hybrid that I was not happy with. When I returned it approximately 5 weeks later for the present Civic I was not told that I would be paying $6,000.00 to pay off the loan. I was led to believe that it was a simple trade since the Hybrid was new. Will never use that dealer again."

What Owners Say

"Very clean simple styling, minimal chrome, nice wheels."

SANDER S., CA (2006 Honda Civic)

"THE PAINT IS DOWN TO THE METAL. MANY HONDA WITH FADING, UGLY PAINT FADE."

Anonymous, SC (2006 Honda Civic)

"The body style does not look like it is 10 years old. Still looks modern."

STEPHEN H., OH (2006 Honda Civic)

"it was an innovator and I still appreciate the styling"

Anonymous, AB (2006 Honda Civic)

"Body lines are the most pleasing feature of the Civic Coupe. The dark blue paint was also a selling factor, however a Honda recall on that color which addressed the "chalking" problem of the uppermost areas had expired after we purchased it and we were unable to get any compensation from Honda to repaint it."

DAVID C., NJ (2006 Honda Civic)

"The A pillars get in the way of good visibility, especially when looking for pedestrians when looking to make a right or left turn. I find I have to move around a lot in my seat in order to look around the A pillar."

MAMORU N., CA (2006 Honda Civic)

"Still, ten years later, a damn fine looking vehicle. The only downside to this vehicle is road noise."

ROBERT M., CA (2006 Honda Civic)

"Still very stylish even after model update."

J L., CA (2006 Honda Civic)

"It is sleek and attractive. I like the split display with the upper level that keeps your eyes close to the road. Visibility is good."
