Reliability History Reliability History The reliability charts are based on responses on hundreds of thousands of vehicles from our latest Annual Auto Survey. Consumer Reports subscribers reported on any serious problems they had with their vehicles during the past 12 months that they considered serious because of cost, failure, safety, or downtime, in any of the trouble spots included in the table below. The results are presented relative to the average model that year. Extra weight is given to the more serious areas such as major engine or transmission problems. Based on this data and further analysis, we predict reliability for the latest year. N/A indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2007 Honda CR-V owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

Climate System

Blower (fan) motor, A/C compressor, condenser, evaporator, heater system, automatic climate control, refrigerant leakage, electrical failure.

What Owners Say

A/C compressor

"AC suddenly died while running in a 122 deg F day! Apparently common for AC to fail on this year model. Had to replace the compressor."

Anonymous, CA (2007 Honda CR-V LX 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"Air conditioning failed; rebuilt compressor installed, including warranty. Rebuilt unit failed and was replaced under warranty."

Anonymous, PA (2007 Honda CR-V LX 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"The day I drove it off the lot the A/C did not work at all. The salesperson at the dealership assured me the vehicle had gone through a 172-point check before being put on the lot, and then rechecked before I came to get it. I had to go back, wait 3-4 days for the dealership to fix it. This was a great inconvenience not only because I desperately need the card, but also because I had to arrange transportation to home and back to the dealership, which is 15 miles one-way with no public transportation."

Kathryn F., MA (2007 Honda CR-V 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"Compressor froze causing a horrible clunking sound. Afraid to drive it"

Anonymous, FL (2007 Honda CR-V EX 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"The AC Compressor failed and had to be replaced for almost $1500"

Larry D., MN (2007 Honda CR-V EX-L 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"a/c compressor failed one day. apparently this is a common problem with honda crvs."

Tim H., CA (2007 Honda CR-V EX-L 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"A/C compressor failed soon after one of the airbags was replaced as a recall. There had been a service bulletin issued by Honda relating to A/C compressor failure prior to this date. A/C compressor was occasionally producing a burning smell, however dealer made no attempt to check out compressor during recall work on airbag. The compressor failed shortly after, but was about 400 miles past the service bulletins' stated replacement mileage, so Honda refused to replace it. I had a local shop do the work because Honda dealer wanted substantially more money to replace the compressor."

L F., CA (2007 Honda CR-V EX-L 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"AC Clutch failed"

Anonymous, NJ (2007 Honda CR-V EX-L 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"After almost 11 years the AC compressor needed replacing. I feel it is average for a vehicle of this age. The AC is on most of the time, so I don't consider this a deal beaker for me."

Joseph R., CA (2007 Honda CR-V EX-L 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"The compressor/condenser stopped working at approx. 97,000 miles in Jacksonville FL in August. This was the first thing that we ever had to repair (besides brake pads at 87000 miles). This car has been a real workhorse for us for about 11 years now"

Bryan F., NY (2007 Honda CR-V LX 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"Intermittent a/c function."

Anonymous, WI (2007 Honda CR-V LX 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

Anonymous, CA (2007 Honda CR-V 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

Anonymous, MD (2007 Honda CR-V EX 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"I have gone to two shops including the Honda dealer and after being charge for diagnosis they can't figure out what is wrong. One said it was low on gas, but couldn't find a leak. The a/c units comes on and off at will; but then it will be ok for a w"

Robert P., TX (2007 Honda CR-V EX 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"When I bought the car with 180K miles, I noted the steering was a bit variably resistive as the wheel was turned into a corner. My presumption was steering pump/belts. Had the steering pump replaced at the used-car dealer (but now I am not sure I should have trusted them to do any good work), but no change. Worried my daughter had an unsafe car, I spend $1700 at the local frame shop to replace much of the front end steering/linkage parts. This just ended up with a little bit of change. Then right when I picked it up from the Frame place, there was an obvious exhaust sound in the engine area that was obvious inside the car upon acceleration. I returned to the frame place right away but they refused to take responsibility for the change. I went to Honda and they said the bolts holding the exhaust manifold to the engine block were frozen and there was a good change they would break, causing more work. So now the car still has the exhaust sound (not obvious from the outside of the card) and a little bit of the steering resistance. I believe this car was mistreated by a previous owner. But it has remained dependable for my 17 yr old daughter."

John K., MO (2007 Honda CR-V LX 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"Had brakes redone about 10 months after purchase; this was at the dealership I bought it from. About eight months after that went to local garage for brakes again. Kathryn F., MA (2007 Honda CR-V 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"right rear brake system (rotors) had to be replaced three times within six months; part of issue was ineptness of dealer mechanics based upon inaccurate trouble shooting; calipers were not releasing thus continuous wear on pads and rotors"

Jeff W., OH (2007 Honda CR-V EX 2.4-L 4 Cyl)
Pulsation or vibration

"The pulsating is an obvious case of the brakes rotors needing resurfacing. But, the brakes still have a lot of material on them. So I have not addressed the issue as of yet."

Squeaking

"It was more of a grinding noise upon application of the brakes. It's been a chronic problem. The shop says there is nothing wrong with the brakes. The noise is caused by a build-up of rust, which accumulates because I don't drive it enough. I don't believe them."

Paint (fading, chalking, cracking, or peeling)

"Clear coat on horizontal and near horizontal surfaces peeled off. Honda acknowledged a paint problem across many of its product line but would repaint only certain surfaces on each. The CRV didn't qualify for some reason. Honda said the problem was that it used a soft paint/clear coat that didn't suffer the sunlight very well. Ended up spending $600 out of pocket to repaint bad surfaces, but now other surfaces are starting to peel. Have a 2003 Avalanche of similar color that has sat in same weather exposure as CRV and for 4 years longer, but its paint is still perfect."

Anonymous, FL (2007 Honda CR-V 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"Bought the car with about 180K miles on it. It already had a few small rust spots on the rear hatch and a couple on the doors, like it was not taken care of. But the left-rear door black verticle surfaces that surround the front and rear of that door's window had a rusty surface that someone had apparently spray-painted, paint-run drips and all. Just got it fixed this week along with other body work related to a minor hit-and-run. The black verticle door surfaces were meant to have a plastic black tape on them....but only this door did not. I am presuming it was an after-market door replacement in the past OR the black tape failed on this door only...which does not make sense because the similar surfaces on the other three doors are fine. I knew this when I bought the car, but wanted an SUV for my daughter for more protection than a sedan, so I bought it. The body shop did a good job, but due the rust, I do not expect perfection into the future."

It puzzled me that the battery stayed fully charged, so we got a second opinion at an import vehicle specialist shop. They eventually duplicated the starting issue and determined it was a problem with the starter. Absolutely no issues since, so in this case, Honda was wrong. We just had plenty of diagnosis fees"
