Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2013 Honda Fit owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

Brakes

Antilock system (ABS), parking brake, master cylinder, calipers, rotors, pulsation or vibration, squeaking, brake failure or wear.

What Owners Say

Calipers

"was detected when mechanic notice left front brake pad was almost used up"

Anonymous, CA (2013 Honda Fit Sport 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"rotors and pads needed replacing"

Anonymous, ON (2013 Honda Fit Unsure 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Driver side caliper makes a horrendous noise when stopping -- it also feels like anti-lock breaks sometimes with that same pulsing grind feeling in the pedal. Its been replaced under warranty 3 times and its still an issue."

Anonymous, NY (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)
Normal routine brake wear

"The front brakes (original!) finally got down to 1+ mm ... usually I wait to hear a sound to change them (no state mandated inspection in AR) ... so I proactively got new brakes put on. Rotars were fine. They asked if I wanted to replace rear and told them no because I understand they are know to go as far as 200k miles. 70,000 miles is most I ever got from a set of brakes. I attribute it to light car (2500 lbs), manual transmission and how I drive ... not slow, just not stupid."

Anonymous, AR (2013 Honda Fit Sport 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"replace brake pads"

Anonymous, (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"After 100000 miles needed new brakes. Normal maintenance"

Anonymous, OH (2013 Honda Fit Sport 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"My mechanic told me that the Honda Fit goes over twice as many miles on brake pads that other vehicles experience."

Bernice L., ME (2013 Honda Fit Sport 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Replaced front pads."

A S., NY (2013 Honda Fit Sport 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Due to vibration, the front pads and rotors were replaced. Cost was 325 dollars."

John M., OR (2013 Honda Fit Sport 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"This vehicle has Disc Brakes in the front and Drum Brakes in the rear. This arrangement appears to cause the rear brake shoes and drums to wear quickly. So the car needs to have the rear brakes adjusted frequently. Otherwise, you could end up with the front Disc Brakes performing most or all of the braking. A safety concern or issue."

Jay G., CA (2013 Honda Fit Sport 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Needed replacing due to normal wear"

Sam L., ON (2013 Honda Fit 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"calipers,rotors and pads replaced"

Hans T., ON (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Simply driving for five years used up the brakes."

James S., CA (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Brake pads replace when I had the car for about 6 months."

Cathy G., VA (2013 Honda Fit 1.5-L 4 Cyl)
Premature brake wear

"left front brake pad wore out prematurely because caliper was defective"

Anonymous, CA (2013 Honda Fit Sport 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Require complete new brakes, pads and rotors after only 20000 miles."

Anonymous, (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"I had brakes replaced at 22,000 miles and I felt that it was premature., but they were making a grinding noise"

Anonymous, TX (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"I live in a hilly area and had to replace brake pads and front rotors around 27,000 miles"

Ariel Y., AL (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"uneven wear - right front brakes pads"

Anonymous, IL (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Brake pads were completely worn down after 20000 miles"

Richard T., PA (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Had to replace pads and rotors due to premature wear - indicated by squealing noise"

Anonymous, GA (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Brakes wore down after only 12,000 miles. Honda refused to replace or even discount repair job"

Alfred F., TX (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"had to have only right brake pads replaced at 22638 and rotor and brake pads at 51975. (one of the 2 pads were worn to metal and the other showed almost no wear both times) mechanic suspects that this particular brake is defective"

Anonymous, CA (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)
Regular brake failure

"see previous comment"

Anonymous, IL (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"The brakes suddenly started making horrible squeaking noises and were not working to their best ability. They needed to be changed"

Anonymous, ON (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)
Rotors

"It's a feature that is also a flaw. The Fit gives no warning that brakes are going bad. It will grind down to the rotors with no squealing or other indication of problems. Every other car I've had gives you some grinding sound before it gets to the expensive part. It's nice that the Fit keeps operating well, but a warning that it's time to replace the brake pads would be helpful."

Anonymous, IL (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"I did not have to change them. I just thought new pads and rotors would result in the smoothest operation-and it did."

Bernice L., ME (2013 Honda Fit Sport 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Replaced front rotors and pads. Cost 275."

A S., NY (2013 Honda Fit Sport 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"normal wear"

Sam L., ON (2013 Honda Fit 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"I'm used to getting some warning from my cars when the brakes are going bad. I just asked them to check while rotating the tires and not only were the brake pads done, it was into the rotors. Now, bravo to Honda for designing a car that doesn't scrape or whine when down to the rotors, but SOME warning of some kind would be nice (or maybe a mileage recommendation?) so that I can catch the pads in the future without having to pay for rotors as well."

Anonymous, IL (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)
Squeaking

"The brakes sound like dirt is between the pad and the shoe, I have had it looked at twice without correcting the issue. They now tell me I should have the brake lines drained every 3 years even though I hardly drive the car because of the recall and the squeaking"

John A., TN (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Problem started in 2015 and has continued ever since. It sounds like sand or dirt has gotten between the pads and the cylinder and squeaks at stops. I have had it checked out several times but the issue continues."

John A., NC (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

Climate System

Blower (fan) motor, A/C compressor, condenser, evaporator, heater system, automatic climate control, refrigerant leakage, electrical failure.

What Owners Say

A/C compressor

"On long road trips the AC cannot keep up with the needs in the vehicle. Several forums suggest it's the AC lines icing up."

Anonymous, (2013 Honda Fit Sport 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Uncertain if it is the A/C compressor, but the A/C is weak."

Anonymous, (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Insufficient cooling at about 41000 miles. Replaced compressor, receiver dryer and expansion valve."

Anonymous, (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"The cool air system is insufficient in summers in Georgia"

Anonymous, (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Low pressure."

Anonymous, (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"This vehicle has been reasonably reliable, but for the A/C system to so utterly fail is unacceptable. Within one year, there were catastrophic problems both with the internal components of the A/C system and the cabin components. I would have expected better from Honda."

Anonymous, TX (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"When on a road trip in the southwest in very hot weather the air conditioner could not keep the car cool. I had to stop driving during the day and only drive at night."

Anonymous, CA (2013 Honda Fit Base Unsure)

"In a season that was very hot, the Air Conditioning system of the car was definitely not enough to cool the car."

Anonymous, CA (2013 Honda Fit Sport 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"In hot weather the AC stops working. After it cools off it works again for awhile. I haven't taken it in yet"

Anonymous, IN (2013 Honda Fit Sport 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"I ended up replacing the entire air conditioning system on a relatively new car"

Anonymous, TX (2013 Honda Fit 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"It seems the a/c freezes up when on long trips. The air is no longer cold. I turn off the a/c for several minutes and when I turn it back on, it's cool again"

Anonymous, TX (2013 Honda Fit Sport 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"I am so disgusted by the quality of the A/C system on this car that I would NEVER purchase another Fit. I have owned more than a dozen different cars in my life and none have had this sort of catastrophic A/C failure much less this early in their lives."

Alfred F., TX (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"the entire ac sytem had to be replaced"

Anonymous, AL (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Cooling sytem occasionally stops, but it's not predictable. Gave out twice last year when I was in very hot country. Warmer weather has just begun here this year, and it is currently working perfectly. Dealer does not want to work on it until it is malfunctioning in shop, because certification cost is only provided once."

Berneice E., WA (2013 Honda Fit 1.5-L 4 Cyl)
Condenser

"I've never felt like the cold air has ever been cold. At best it's more cool than cold. It doesn't get extremely hot living in central Illinois but when it does the AC has never kept me at a comfortable temperature."

Anonymous, IL (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Developed mildew odor whenever A/C was in use. Had to go through 2 month mediation process to make Honda replace the condenser and force the dealership to refund the money paid by me for their first inept repair. This should've been treated as a warr"

Paul W., AL (2013 Honda Fit Sport 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"It isn't really a problem with the part, but a huge problem with the design of the car. The coils are located at the front of the car with NOTHING to protect it. Small rocks and other road junk hits it and damages the coils. We have had it replaced b"

Anonymous, VA (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)
Refrigerant leaks

"It is actually an ongoing problem... It started 2 years after I purchased the vehicle and begins approximately 6-8 months prior to the refrigerant fluid needing changed. The leak itself is not very large on the ground, BUT it is accompanied with a VERY unpleasant smell in the vehicle everytime I turn on the air (even without A/C). The service department cannot figure out what is wrong... so I just air out the vehicle for the first 2-3min while the car is running and it seems to be ok. This is frustrating because no one seems to know what is wrong and it is ongoing."

Anonymous, (2013 Honda Fit Sport 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Air conditioning became progressively less effective over a 24-hour period on a weekend. The car went in to the repair shop the following week on the earliest available date. The refrigerant leak has not happened since."

Anonymous, MD (2013 Honda Fit Sport 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"air conditioner failed to work in 2017, it was fixed. In 2019 it failed again and I was told it needed to be replaced, costing $1000. I have not had the repair done yet."

Anonymous, OR (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Started being a problem only when air conditioning was run for a long time. Worsened."

Anonymous, VT (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"air conditioning would not get cold. Refrigerant needed to be recharged."

Stephen V., PA (2013 Honda Fit Sport 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"A/C was not cooling very well. Took in to shop and they checked for leak, could not find any leak, but it was low on Freon. Added tracer to system to show leak in future. No problem as of yet."

Anonymous, TX (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Repair cost $1200 and I rarely use AC."

Peter D., CO (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

Paint/Trim

Paint (fading, chalking, cracking, or peeling), loose interior and exterior trim or moldings, rust.

What Owners Say

Loose exterior trim or moldings

"The rubber trim on the outside of the windows has rotted already. I replaced one myself and the other three are bad need of being replaced."

Anonymous, AZ (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"When body work had to be done thanks to an accident, The tolerances on the rear bumper attaching to the back end that an otherwise blemish-free bumper will not stay in place for a smooth seam with the body of the car"

Laura R., NC (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"2 trim moldings had to be replaced, they came off"

Anonymous, TX (2013 Honda Fit Sport 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"The rubber trim that sits next to the drivers side window dried out and fell doin into the door. The left rear window trim at present is half fallen into the door. I will be replacing it in the next week or so. That is not all that is wrong with this car due to sub quality parts. It however runs very good, but I will never ever buy another Honda vehicle again"

William E., AZ (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"the external moldings on the back have regularly popped loose since the start. The dealership fixed it but it's out of warranty now. Almost a perfect car, but there really should be a fix for something that silly."

Anonymous, IL (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)
Loose interior trim or moldings

"pull down handle on back lift door, handle came off and would not stay on. had new one installed but don't like the results, will take back to have it reworked."

Ronald D., TX (2013 Honda Fit Sport 1.5-L 4 Cyl)
Paint (fading, chalking, cracking, or peeling)

"Paint scratches very easily. Thin clear coat??"

Anonymous, (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"The paint is gone over 95% of the car from the top, to the sides, and now the lower bottom of the car is starting to disappear. Honda would not do anything to help even after the 4 th year of ownership when all this starting happening, not to mention the other problems. I will never buy a honda again."

Anonymous, AZ (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"The paint will scratch for the slightest reason. Even was scratched by a paper grocery bag. Almost anything that touches it will leave a scratch!!"

Anonymous, SC (2013 Honda Fit Sport 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"TOP COAT BUBBLES"

Steve D., ON (2013 Honda Fit EV 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Chips. Not sure of cause"

Anonymous, FL (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"rough winter, numerous paint chips down to primer, I had an 07 Fit and never had as many chips from road stones as this 2013 Fit. I feel the paint is "thinner""

Kenneth B., NY (2013 Honda Fit Sport 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Within a few months the paint was faded and scratched up with no impact beyond commercial car washes. Honda said it wasn't covered by the extensive warranty. I have not fixed it yet, since they want to charge $900"

Anonymous, IL (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Paint chipped at unusual places"

Anonymous, ON (2013 Honda Fit EV 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Noticed small spot on both doors where paint has chipped off. Keep car in garage. Also little spot in front. Not real noticeable but appears to me to be poor paint finish quality"

Marcia H., OR (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Honda uses a very thin layer of paint, and there are some large chips in the paint already, down to the base coat"

Anonymous, TN (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"The paint started bubbling up on the front bumper in the winter and now is starting to flake off and more areas continue to bubble up"

Susan M., NC (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Paint coming off the everywhere"

Anonymous, FL (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Paint has many surface defects, scratches easily and does not have the luster I would like. I am a perfectionist on taking care of a car."

Russell K., CA (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Paint has faded/chipped off in three separate sections of the car."

Anonymous, AZ (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"At about the three year mark, the paint starting having a little discoloration, and now the top of the car, the hood, the back hatch and the top of the doors the paint is gone, Honda offered to pay half to paint only the areas that the paint had burned off. I told them they should pay to paint the whole car. There were several other items that had problems before it was 4 years old. I will never buy another Honda again."

William E., AZ (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"From the day I bought the car the paint began to show scratches. Now the doors show many scratches and there are also scratches elsewhere."

Anonymous, CA (2013 Honda Fit Sport 1.5-L 4 Cyl)
Rust

"The pain is extremely brittle and there are now chips on the hood from gravel. As well, there are rust spots all over the body. Only purchased in summer 2014"

Anonymous, BC (2013 Honda Fit Sport 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

Power Equipment

Cruise control, clock, warning lights, body control module, keyless entry, wiper motor or washer, tire pressure monitor, interior or exterior lights, horn, gauges, 12V power plug, remote engine start, alarm or security system

What Owners Say

Alternator

"Alternator will fail after running for more than 30 minutes."

Anonymous, IL (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Alternator went bad according to the repair shop. Needed to be replaced. They could not determine the reason. They said that was not typical for this year Honda."

Diane E., OR (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)
Battery (not hybrid or electric)

"Battery was dead while still under warranty. Battery was replaced under warranty"

Randy L., MN (2013 Honda Fit Sport 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"OEM battery failed, interestingly during a long drive maybe 400 km from home. It is a manual, so I could push start. I bought a battery, and the dealership actually installed it on the spot."

John L., ON (2013 Honda Fit Sport 1.5-L 4 Cyl)
Coil

"The car seemed to lose power out of the blue. We could not use it. Even when taking it to the mechanic, it proved difficult since it would power specifically when driving uphill."

Anonymous, PR (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Ignition coils failed, caused difficulty stalling and frequent stalling."

Anonymous, CT (2013 Honda Fit Sport 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"One of the cylinder coil failed. Car was still running but limited to about 20 m/hr. Difficult to understand on a 50000 miles car. Seems like other owners had the same problem. Fortunately, I was able to fix myself."

Anonymous, (2013 Honda Fit Sport 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"ignition coil on one cylinder failed, causing rough idle, lack of power"

Anonymous, OH (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)
Electronic ignition

"One of the spark plugs was not firing. According to the mechanic, it was due to a faulty coil"

Anonymous, PA (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)
Engine harness

"In 2018, there were misfiring cyclinders. A dealer tried to figure out the problem. A new computer was installed. Somehow between then and later 2019, the engine harness was damaged. The car worked well until December 2019. A check engine light lead me to a different Dealer. After lots of searching, the Service department discovered engine harness was damaged (as in while someone was servicing it), and replaced it. All told, close to $4,000"

Anonymous, MA (2013 Honda Fit Sport 1.5-L 4 Cyl)
Spark plugs or wires failure

"The issue happened once and was resolved very quickly by the service team, BUT I was shocked at the cost..."

Anonymous, (2013 Honda Fit Sport 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"engine ran rough/misfiring, service tried several ways to fix it and finally was successful"

Anonymous, NH (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Engine knock, took it to Honda Dealer, they adjusted cylinders tolerances. Knock continues esp going up steep hills. Took it back to them, on the way to the appointment, lost some power, was able to go 40 km/ hr but not more. They said the spark plugs were loose... no problems since. I don't know how or why the spark plugs got loose, they were the last ones to service the engine, to my understanding spark plugs don't just loosen up. Overall I am super happy with the car, first issue in 7 years and 80 000 km is pretty good in my book."

Anonymous, BC (2013 Honda Fit Sport 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Spark plug came out of the cylinder head on the highway and destroyed a coil and damaged cylinder head."

Anonymous, QC (2013 Honda Fit Sport 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"The check engine light came on and car ran rough. Turned out to be a broken spark plug that probably occurred as a result of a fender bender."

Dan W., OH (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Check engine light came on and it showed cylinder number 3 was misfiring and need replacing. The cost to replace all spark plugs and wires etc was $ 1,700.00"

Charles-Linda R., KS (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)
Starter

"Starter just failed. I had been driving for several hours, stopped for gas, and the car would not start again"

Body Integrity

Squeaks, rattles, wind noises, loose or cracked seals and/or weather-stripping, air and water leaks.

What Owners Say

Air or water leaks

"Water coming in from seam in the roof. Rubber gasket failed."

Noreen L., FL (2013 Honda Fit Sport 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Door seals are insufficient for keeping water out of inner edges of door. No water enters the car, but the edges require frequent cleaning. Better sealing would likely cut down road noise a bit."

Michael S., CT (2013 Honda Fit Sport 1.5-L 4 Cyl)
Seals and/or weather-stripping

"Weather stripping on back passenger side door leaked badly causing serious moldy smell"

Anonymous, VA (2013 Honda Fit Sport 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

Wind noise

"Sounds like I'm driving a convertible."

Anonymous, IA (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"A measure of noise, for me, is the impact the noise produces on the audio quality. With the Fit, it was certainly the worst listening experience"

Babar A., CA (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"I was just trying to point out that you can hear and feel everything on the road with this car"

Martin M., FL (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"The road noise is so loud that at times you can't even think. I turn on the radio to drown it out, but then that gets to be too loud."

Susan M., NC (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"The car is VERY noisy. Wind and road noise is loud enough to limit conversation and ability to hear radio or GPS directions."

Mary W., OR (2013 Honda Fit Sport 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

Anonymous, MO (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Remote stopped opening car 6 months ago. Dealer tried to charge us to replace a lock actuator. Learned that Honda is using cheap actuators (class action suit for CR-Vs). Dealer replaced as an "accommodation". What junk. Won't buy Honda again"

Anonymous, CO (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Trunk latch handle "sticks" in the open position when hatch is opened. (It's as though the spring which puts tension on the handle has failed.) Once hatch is open, it's necessary to manually push the handle back in the "closed" position for the hatch to close."

Anonymous, (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"My car does not have remote unlock, it requires key entry to doors and trunk. The original keys, and replacement keys issued up until last year, were of such a soft metal that they wore down and made it impossible to enter the car, and difficult to start the car. Honda replace 2 sets of keys and one set of door locks. We had to pay for replacement of the driver door and hatch lock, 2 years ago. The passenger door lock does not work on our current key, as we did not pay to have that lock replaced."

Anonymous, ON (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"hydraulic back hatch a continuing problem. They stop holding the car hatch up. Have been replaced twice"

Anonymous, OH (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Have had to return car to dealer 4 times as keys will not go into locks and/or ignition. Last time was mid-December 2017 and couldn't get key to turn in ignition. Currently have 2 keys, as they replaced ignition and driver's door lock to work on new key. passenger lock and hatch door work on old key, but it is tempermental. This is a base model so does not have power door locks so must use key."

Hugh J., NY (2013 Honda Fit Sport 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Original tires on the rear wore out after ONE YEAR. Learned that rear suspension is the old fixed-axle, which can't be aligned if it ever goes out. Axle and tires replaced by dealer, after many calls to Honda. Now rotate tires often. What junk"

Anonymous, CO (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Because of potholes etc on roadways , the alignment had to be corrected when we changed tires."

Anonymous, BC (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

What Owners Say

In-dash navigation system (GPS)

"The GPS/Radio/CD unit lost power and had to be replaced for $800 after three years"

Anonymous, DE (2013 Honda Fit Sport 1.5-L 4 Cyl)
Phone pairing (e.g., Bluetooth)

"after my wifes phone was updated, the car went into a strange mode of telling that her phone was connected on a continuous loop"

Anonymous, TX (2013 Honda Fit Sport 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"System would spontaneously stop pairing with my phone. After 4 trips to the dealer where they re-installed software, they finally replaced the hardware- no more problems after that"

John G., CA (2013 Honda Fit EV)

"Unable to pair phone to the bluetooth hands free system. Repeated trips to the dealer failed to fix the problem. It was finally fixed about a month ago after not working for a year when the dealer did an upgrade to the system"

Anonymous, CA (2013 Honda Fit EV Plug-in Hybrid)

"The 2013 Honda phone pairing kept dropping my phone connection via Bluetooth. I would be in the midst of a lengthy call and all of a sudden, the person I was speaking with would be yelling to me on my phone. When I took it to Honda to get it repaired, they stated that My brand new Samsung Galaxy Note 4 was the issue but I found that hard to believe since it was an $800 phone widely used by power users and that line of phablets had been around for a very long time, as in Years!"

Owen L., CA (2013 Honda Fit Sport 1.5-L 4 Cyl)
Voice control commands

"The whole Honda computer operating system is NOT intuitive at all. The voice commands are not well understood by the computer and are carried out very slowly. I could call my friend twice by hand by the time the computer recognized my command and actually completed my request. It became a waste of time, so I quit using it all together. Also, I do not have an accent of any kind, I speak fluent English, I was in Radio and I pronounce words with clarity so I cannot attribute the faulty Honda system to a bad dialect or horrendous accent."

Owen L., CA (2013 Honda Fit Sport 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

Drive System

Driveshaft or axle, CV joint, differential, transfer case, 4WD/AWD components, driveline vibration, traction control, electronic stability control (ESC), electrical failure.

What Owners Say

Driveshaft or axle

"Specifically, it was the flywheel. The mechanic explained deep grooves had been worn in it, probably by someone who wasn't good at driving a manual transmission car in city traffic, given the frequent shifting required (Probably me; we live in a small rural town but I was commuting to work, shopping, Dr. appts in the nearest city, 27 miles away). Along with the flywheel, pressure and friction disks, the pressure plate, release and pilot bearings, and the clutch also had to be replaced. Cost more than the car was worth; but it's a good car so long as I don't try to drive in the city, and the repair cost was no more than it would have cost to replace it."

Anonymous, IN (2013 Honda Fit Unsure 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"The driver side front axle had to be changed probably due to a hit in the road."

Anonymous, TX (2013 Honda Fit EV 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"After a loud CLUNK while accelerating from a parking lot onto to a local road, the engine kept running fine but I could not shift into any gear. The garage said that one of the two ????? on the front axle had rusted out and broken. While the other ????? was still operational, it was also rusting and would likely fail before too long; so I had them both replaced."

Anonymous, MA (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)
Electrical failure

"I have had to replace the switch that turns the AC twice in the last 3 years. AC works when the button is held, but as soon as I take my finger off it stops."

Anonymous, (2013 Honda Fit Unsure 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Failure of electrical control system that starts the car. The electronics of this system failed and so the entire module was replaced for free under warranty"

Anonymous, WI (2013 Honda Fit Sport 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

Bridget A., VT (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Clutch failed and had to be replaced at 32,000 miles BECAUSE FLYWHEEL WAS DEFECTIVE. FLYWHEEL WAS CRACKED! THis was a $1350 repair!"

Mary W., OR (2013 Honda Fit Sport 1.5-L 4 Cyl)
Transmission rebuild or replacement

"Transmission totally locked up twice while being towed behind our RV (in accordance with the owners manual). Dealership (not the one purchased from) indicated total failure. Dealership replaced total transmission"

Anonymous, VA (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Transmission made loud growling sound on deceleration and put drag on vehicle. Honda had to replace the entire transmission."

Judy W., CA (2013 Honda Fit Sport 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Driving home from Easter service at 70 MPH and the check engine came on and loud boom and the car stopped working and we have to pull it over."

Charles-Linda R., KS (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

Transmission Minor

Gear selector or linkage, leaks, transmission computer, transmission sensor or solenoid, clutch adjustment, rough shifting, slipping transmission.

What Owners Say

Gear selector or linkage

"the transmission mechanism that prevents the car from starting unless it is in Park or Neutral sticks at random intervals and the car will not start. Honda can not or will not fix it unless we can bring it in while it is malfunctioning"

Jim C., WA (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)
Rough shifting

"It may have started a couple of years ago. I just assumed it was due to the age of the car and a normal wear and tear. I experience it 2-3 times a week, sometimes less. I didn't realize it was considered a problem until this survey and will have it checked out."

Anonymous, IL (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Although I had only 15k miles, I had also towed the car behind the RV another 10-15K. Trans shifting became noisy. I researched it online and as advised, changed ATF and filter myself. Problem solved!"

Ronald U., GA (2013 Honda Fit Sport 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

Anonymous, MD (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)
Sensors (includes O2 or oxygen sensor)

"Did not pass NY 2015 safety inspection. Dealer said that because car was once jump started, sensors have to be recyled by driving 100 miles at 50+ mph. Jump started because battery failed after 2 months of not driving. Did not work after just 40 mile"

Anonymous, NY (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

Engine Minor

Accessory belts and pulleys, engine computer, engine mounts, engine knock or ping, oil leaks.

What Owners Say

Engine computer

"This is the same as the other issue; I explained them together for they seem related. I did forget to say in the Engine Harness topic, that I replaced the computer a second time at the new dealer, before they discovered the Engine Harness problem."

Anonymous, MA (2013 Honda Fit Sport 1.5-L 4 Cyl)
Engine knock or ping

"Due to one spark plug not firing"

Anonymous, PA (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)
Oil leaks

"When I had an oil change the dealer said a seal was leaking oil on my engine and I had it fixed at no cost under warranty,"

Anonymous, MI (2013 Honda Fit Base 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

Engine Major

Engine rebuild or replacement, cylinder head, head gasket, turbo or supercharger, timing chain or timing belt.

What Owners Say

Cylinder head

"Definitely the spark plugs came loose. An injector failed a test too. The engine light flashed, and my maximum speed was 70 - 80 km/hr. This led me to get unsatisfactory service 600 km from home. I had plugs, two coils and one injector replaced in the end, and I had to wait about 10 days for an appointment. Prior to the service on the road (injector substituted) I couldn't re-set the flashing engine light indicating limp in mode. After, at lower speeds when the light flashed, I could turn the car on and off and drive quickly, and the car would stay out of limp in mode until I slowed down. That's how I got home. And that's how I drove the car until service. This is why I probably wouldn't buy the car again."

John L., ON (2013 Honda Fit Sport 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Aluminum screw stripped and blew out of position causing total replacement of cylinder head. New the cost $6000 to fix. Revamped cost was $3000"

In April 2013, Honda recalled 43,782 2012-2013 Honda Fit Sport vehicles.
