The Odyssey is big and spacious, yet it doesn't feel bulky. The Honda provides good handling, comfortable seating, and offers an ideal combination of acceleration and fuel economy. It's an excellent choice for people who need plenty of interior space.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Owner Satisfaction with:

Driving Experience

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

"Never was satisfied with the brakes."

Anonymous, OH (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"Drives nicely, very maneuverable for its size."

Anonymous, CT (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"Versatility, whether in use around town or on a long road trip. We only wish that Honda was able to design "stow and go" middle captains chairs like the Chrysler and Dodge vans. That is the one shortcoming (Chrysler must have a patent or something else preventing other minivan manufacturers from copying the stow and go seats). Driving experience has always been comfortable and car-like, including at highway speeds, unlike the full-size Ford van we once owned, which drove and felt like the tru..."

Chad N., FL (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"Even after 18 years of ownership, this vehicle still accelerates smoothly and strongly, with smooth shifts. It handles less like a van and more like a well-crafted sedan."

Chad N., FL (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"Good acceleration and handling for an old girl."

Ken H., ON (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"After 18 years the acceleration is still excellent. The handling is aliitle bitt sloppy"

Siegfried H., BC (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"Acceleration is great with the V6 engine, and it handles very well."

Kari W., CO (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"Drive almost as well today as it did 18 years ago when purchased!"

Anonymous, KY (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"Acceleration is decent and handling is good"

Anonymous, IL (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"Only fair acceleration but great handling for a 18 year old vehicle."

Steve L., AZ (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"See prior comments."

Anonymous, BC (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"This vehicle drives very comfortably at at all speeds, ever at speeds in excess of 70 mph and still get good fuel mileage. Not great on acceleration but fine for the type of driving we do. On the negative side we truly dislike not having any compression to slow the vehicle when you remove your foot from the accelerator pedal, Drive 3 does not help either."

James N., CA (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"Good handling in emergency braking."

Claude W., CA (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"Still runs fine, problems are coming."

WILLIAM D., IL (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"perfect"

Anonymous, FL (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"Acceleration is excellent, but the handling is unexpectedly good, especially for a vehicle of this size and weight: it feels handles like a much smaller car."

ALGIS N., NY (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"For the size of the Odyssey it accelerates well in traffic and it also handles well."

Anonymous, ON (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"Drives like a very good handling car"

Anonymous, CA (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"I like the handling, styling, acceleration. Road noise can be annoying."

Anonymous, BC (2000 Honda Odyssey)

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"Ok, so our 2000 Odyssey is now officially 18 years old, but it is still really comfortable! Outside noise levels have been rising and there are little noises and creaks that have increased, but at 185000 miles and lots of trips this is almost expected."

Greg G., CA (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"GOOD comfort"

Anonymous, NE (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"seat could be more comfortable and arm rests more padded."

Anonymous, MI (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"Very good support and driving position"

Anonymous, ON (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"Road noise and wind noise very bad. Other than that a great auto and only 280,000 kms."

Gerry L., AB (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"This is a wonderful van considering it is 17 years old. It never fails to give us a comfortable safe ride and so handy to hall everything we throw in it!"

Ken H., ON (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"I own a 1997 Honda Odyssey (not a 2000). 1997 was not an option. This has been a wonderful car. It has had not major problems. I bought it with 113,000 miles on it. It has the original engine, transmission, a/c--heater. The radio still works O.K. I love my old Odyssey. It is one of the original made by Isuzu."

Anonymous, NC (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"The rear chairs are especially comfortable."

Anonymous, MI (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"Lots of room in this car. Very easy to get in and out of and seating is comfortable with some exception in the third row seat."

Ken R., WA (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"Easy to get in and out of the vehicle. Clean lines. You have the feeling that you are driving the vehicle and not the vehicle driving you."

Siegfried H., BC (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"Comfortable after long rides."

Claude W., CA (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"The seats are very comfortable, and the ride is good, especially considering the age of the vehicle. It is getting noisier the older it gets (squeaking back hatch, engine noise."

Kari W., CO (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"Seats go horizontal"

Anonymous, CA (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"HAVE not needed much beyond regular servicing."

John W., VA (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"All seats are comfortable. The road and engine noise could be lower. Plenty of room."

Anonymous, CA (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"Runs great for an 18 year old van, very comfortable, dependable, and quiet."

Ken H., ON (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"Seats are still comfortable after 18years noise and ride are acceptable after all these years"

Anonymous, IL (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"I find the seating to be only adequate in comfort. Driving position is not comfortable on long trips. Seat bottom is too close to horizontal causing somewhat of a slouching position. Seat back does not have enough lower back support. Ride is a bit stiff, but feels well controlled in quick maneuvers."

Ric H., MI (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"Tremendous room, space efficiency, comfort, even in the base model. Good handling for a minivan"

Anonymous, BC (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"The fabric seats are not soft and cushiony, but we've driven cross-country (California to Florida and back) at least 4 times have taken several trips of 5 or more thousand miles. At times window wind noise is a real pain."

James N., CA (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"The seats are very comfortable. The climate control has always worked very well. The inside is somewhat noisy. The ride is very good."

Anonymous, ON (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"It has high miles but runs fine"

WILLIAM D., IL (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"seats comfortable, low noise level"

THOMAS R., CA (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"good car - no issues with it."

Anonymous, NJ (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"The seats are very supportive. I drive several trips a year 12 hours in length. There is no fatigue in driving that distance as opposed to other cars that exhaust me in 12 hours. Negative: I have spent more than 4 thousand dollars on the air conditioning system. Road noise is very bad. Bad suspension noises. Dealer service and maintenance very very expensive"

MIKE J., TN (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"Easy to get in and out comfortable seays"

Anonymous, CT (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"Break squealing very disturbing but pads are fine. Wind noise is tolerable."

JAMES N., CA (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"AC works well to cool the cabin quickly through lots of vents."

LES T., BC (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"The large vehicle has a lot of road noise, since we like to listen to books on CD when traveling. Otherwise, it is quite comfortable."

GINA V., WA (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"Climate control (heating and especially cooling) is weak--might be undersized for this large of a vehicle."

J A., GA (2000 Honda Odyssey)

Value

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

"The Odyssey had only been upsized to a full-size minivan one year before we got it in April, 2000. Odysseys were in high demand and there were no bargains on it.....dealers sold them as fast as they could get them. Even though we paid pretty much full price for the van, it still has been an absolutely outstanding value! We have had 17 YEARS of great service and utility from this vehicle, with only a couple repairs (none major) which were other than routine maintenance and replacement (tires,..."

Chad N., FL (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"Very reliable with few issues beyond basic maintenance. Not as reliable as Toyota though."

Anonymous, ON (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"18 years... 185000 miles... still love this vehicle! The interior size and capacity was a big selling point for us and it has come in handy through many projects, events, and kid field trips."

Greg G., CA (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"The mini van is 17 years old and I have spend only about a total of $200 in repairs."

Steve L., AZ (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"We bought it brand new in 2000 and it still runs well after 215000 miles. I would not hesitate in taking on a trip."

Paul H., IN (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"Lots of cargo capacity. I don't know why people buy SUVs when a Mini Van is so much more effective."

Ken R., WA (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"My car has been a great value, I have made all the maintenance services, and the only mechanical problem that I had was the alternator died at 242,000 miles"

Robert-Ginger M., TX (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"Excellent car. Reliable. Best car ever owned."

Anonymous, CT (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"This is a 16-year-old car, and it's still going. Several minor accidents, a few squeaks and rattles, a few maintenance items, but it's a remarkable vehicle. Not cheap to start with, but over that time the value has been good."

Anonymous, ON (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"It a catch all car. Has three rows of seats and when they are all down, room for hauling big articles"

John W., VA (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"It has needed no repairs"

Anonymous, CA (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"Other than problems with automatic side door sensors, this vehicle has had no major problem in over 160k miles."

Ric H., MI (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"Purchased new 18 years ago and repairs have totaled $0. Has only required normal maintenance."

Steve L., AZ (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"this car has transmission issues, electric door issues, paint issues head lens issues, AC compressor issues. but it does not leak oil."

Brad T., WA (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"Have had no major issues with this vehicle other that a clock stoppage on Aug 2017."

Anonymous, KY (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"I have put over 200,000 miles on this van, still running well."

Anonymous, IL (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"Design and engineering were great for the day with exceptions of vent window mechanism high rate of failure and no good fix, driver seat plastic parts failure & transmission failures. The transmission was still great on passing and efficiency-enough to warrant repair. Long ride comfort and milage are high. I think Honda did better with interior fit over the model changes. Put 348K on a 1999 Odyssey and waiting for the 2020 new model. Am disappointed in the ever increased use of plastic an woven parts that turn minor collisions into vehicle major repair or total salvage losses."

David K., CA (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"It has had very few problems. Very roomy. With middle seats removed and rear seat folded can fit a full sheet of plywood."

Anonymous, CA (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"My mileage tell all love the honda"

Anonymous, CT (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"No major problems since 2000"

CLAUDE W., CA (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"I bought it from a friend at a great price. I have put plenty into it for repairs but the vehicle has almost 300k miles!"

SANDRA A., TN (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"After 16 years and requiring almost zero repairs this vehicle is still worth 25% of it's purchase price."

STEVE L., AZ (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"207000 miles and still running strong!"

Anonymous, OH (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"This Odyssey has 250,000 miles. It is on its 4th transmission, but all other major parts are original and still working."

C S., CA (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"This Honda has been very reliable. I've had hardly any problems since I purchased it. Now, it has almost 140,000 miles and still gets around 18-22 miles to the gallon. I keep all mechanical areas up to date such as oil changes, brakes, and tune-ups."

LEE F., ID (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"Buy the last day of the end of the month The dealer is ready to bargin with you to meet his/her quota."

Anonymous, OK (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"It was a fairly expensive minivan of its day, but it's still going after 15+ years with very few problems, so I perceive the long-term value as very good."

T H., ON (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"The Achilles heal with this era of Honda Odyssey is the automatic transmission. I'm on my third one. If you overlook that, then the van is durable, reliable and has an abundance of interior space. We don't have to pack the van...we just toss stuff in."

LES T., BC (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"400,000km. Still original engine and transmission."

PETER W., AB (2000 Honda Odyssey)

Styling

How it looks inside and out

What Owners Say

"remote controls for doors do not always work"

Anonymous, MO (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"We bought it new and at the time we got everything we needed in a van. The seats are very comfortable and the fact that the back seat folds down into a well is very convenient. The rubber pieces in the cup holders in the folding table between the driver and passenger seats have deteriorated so that was disappointing. And the plastic guard under the engine has also deteriorated and has to be held in place with wire."

Anonymous, AZ (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"Modern"

CLAUDE W., CA (2000 Honda Odyssey)

"The design and "look" of this mini-van are still common in several new car lines. Nor have there been any important feature added. As a result, our 16-year-old car does not look or feel outdated."
