Anonymous, MD (2009 Honda Odyssey EX 3.5-L V6)

"Had to replace left front axle at 48000 miles and the right front axle at 70000. Then at 85000, I had to replace the left AGAIN!"

Power steering leaks

"Power steering pump failed at 130000 miles"

Anonymous, CO (2009 Honda Odyssey LX 3.5-L V6)

"Late January 2020 I noticed a squeaky whine sound and a strong burning smell upon starting the ignition. I immediately drove the car to our repair shop (not a dealer) and it was determined a power steering fluid hose was leaking on to a rotating belt which caused the smell and noise. The hose was replaced, the belt was replaced and the car has driven beautifully since. It was $800, quite a bit for a hose and belt, but the labor was what did it."

Anonymous, TX (2009 Honda Odyssey Touring 3.5-L V6)

"I had a small power steering leak that was evidenced by the fluid on the floor of the garage. I added fluid to make sure that it was safe to drive and had it repaired by a local mechanic."

Anonymous, NC (2009 Honda Odyssey EX 3.5-L V6)

"The steering became hard at stop or slow speeds. Honda knew of the power steering pump failure problem, and had offered an extended warranty of 7 years, 100K miles, whichever came first. Because I was beyond 7 years but under 100K miles, Honda of America offererd to pay 70% of the repair cost after some negotiating"

Shocks or struts

"The cart is 11 years old. The boot was torn and I had 180000 miles on the car. But the shocks and struts were still functioning. Maybe didn't need to replace."

Climate System

Blower (fan) motor, A/C compressor, condenser, evaporator, heater system, automatic climate control, refrigerant leakage, electrical failure.

What Owners Say

A/C compressor

"It took 2 dealers a year and a half to pinpoint the problem with the A/C system which turned out to be a leak at the compressor. I kept having to recharge the system only to have it fail after a few months because of the leak. In the process of replacing the timing belt they discovered a burned out clutch i the A/C system as well (I had smelled something burning) but at that time did not still find the compressor issue"

Timing belt or chain

"We had the timing belt changed and expected the timing belt tensioner arm to be replaced as well as stated in the work order request. We had quite a bit of other work done as well as we had just purchased this van second had from a non Honda dealer and knew the timing belt change was due. The Honda shop we took it to changed the belt but not the tensioner arm. I believe it was less then 40,000 km later that the tensioner arm started leaking and the timing belt almost let go. I took it to our local Honda shop, they were very surprised that the tensioner arm was not replaced as listed on the work request. When I questioned the Honda shop that originally did the timing belt they said they do anything they can to save the customer money and it wasn't leaking so they didn't change it. They would not compensate me at all for having the timing belt done again even though I almost lost my motor due to this. When I contacted Honda Canada they would assign someone within three months to check this out, when I contacted them three months later they put it off and said they would assign someone, when I contacted them again they put it back to me to appeal to the shop again. My problem in the first place was the shop was ignoring me. I am not very pleased with Honda Canada or the dealership. My local dealership has been great as they have always been. The only reason my husband and had not gone to them on the first place was we were afraid of timing belt troubles happening in the 140km commute from purchase city to our home."

Anonymous, AB (2009 Honda Odyssey LX 3.5-L V6)
