The redesigned Odyssey topped our minivan ratings, although this iteration of the Odyssey traded away some of the previous generation's crisp handling qualities for a more comfortable ride. The cabin is noticeably quieter too, although some road noise persists. The jazzier exterior styling reduced cargo space by a smidgen, but rear seating is generous and easy to access.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

What Owners Say

"My 2011 Odyssey has better pickup than my 2017 Sienna."

Kenneth M., SC (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"Acceleration is good. I especially like the transmission option to use it as a three speed for in traffic operations. It is almost like a sport mode and allows me to keep the vehicle in a better gear for traffic. Handling, avoidance moves and such are pretty good too. I might prefer a tad more braking power. Most impressive is the traction control system. Here in the snow it has allowed me to climb hills in terrible road conditions. The TCS basically controlled the throttle and prevented runaway wheel slip much better than I could ever do manually."

Arthur H., NY (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"Safe, stable and powerful response driving in bad weather during summer and winter."

Jorge O., NJ (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"This has been our first Odyssey and overall it has been a good vehicle. But, from early on, when braking from a reasonable speed the steering wheel shakes. Honda dealership has performed all kinds of tests and realigned the vehicle and nothing solves the problem. Someone at the dealership should be able to figure this out and fix it."

Anonymous, MI (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"It is holding up well."

Anonymous, KY (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"Great acceleration and handling. Main downside is blind spots."

Anonymous, OH (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"I like the way it handles and the ability to accelerate when needed."

Anonymous, KY (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"Not a sports car, but does handle better than some sedans. Acceleration i is quite sufficient. Gas mileage is excellent considering the size of this vehicle. Will ave 30mpg on long hwy trips driving 70 mph."

Gary L., MD (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"Plenty of acceleration. Handling is crisp, accurate, and satisfying. My one complaint is excessive road noise."

Rod H., FL (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"The engine stands out. It is very smooth and has good power. The van also handles surprisingly well, although this seems to be affected by the choice of tires."

Frank W., NM (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"Excellent responsive car"

Anonymous, PA (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"My wife is fussy about things but she loves her Odyssey and loves trips in it."

Spence H., OH (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"Handling is great for such a large vehicle, but acceleration is average. Adequate, but nothing to get excited about."

Kevin S., FL (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"Handling on the highway"

Benjamin B., RI (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"The Odyssey has surprising power and an extremely smooth ride. Driving it feels like a luxury sedan rather than a truck or SUV."

Derrik L., WA (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"For its size, the Odyssey accelerates well and is smooth handling and provides good road feedback"

William F., CT (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"comfort"

Anonymous, TX (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"plenty of power; excellent handling for a van."

Jean B., CA (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"Acceleration and handling are both very good for a van of this size. You can feel the road, yet it is not tiring to drive."

Anonymous, CA (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"The Odyssey is an all-time favorite of ours. It drives smoothly, has good peripheral views, is very responsive to steering, and yet is large enough to carry all our great grandkids!!"

Anonymous, NM (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"Was disappointed in the 2011. Loved my 2008 Odyssey much better. It drove completely different than this 2011 and not for the better. Will trade off as soon as we can."

Anonymous, FL (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"Drives like a car - feels smaller than it is"

ANN G., NJ (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"There is a slight judder at slow speeds between 1st and 2nd."

NANCIANNE S., ON (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"The Odyssey is a dream car - easy to get into (I'm short); easy to get out of, no blind spots when driving, excellent acceleration and stopping, narrow wheel base so it turns easily in small spaces, VERY comfortable seats, spacious for 6 to 7 people, holds tons of stuff when needed. A/C is very cold."

Anonymous, AZ (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"Excellent handling, and very easy to drive."

LOGAN M., AL (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"The Odyssey has very strong torque steer (pulls on steering wheel under full throttle)."

EDWIN R., CA (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"The Ackerman angle doesn't seem to be correct on this vehicle. The tires squeal when turning at the locks. The MPG is great if you keep your speed down and do not jack rabbit."

STEPHEN S., IN (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"car drives very securely, I feel safe in most diving conditions. Visibility is very good all around except for the front corner posts are wide and can be a blockage at times. Love the back camera. Acceleration is slow but smooth."

KEITH L., MI (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"Handles like a sports car. Quick from standstill, tight corners, excellent acceleration."

DERRICK S., VA (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"Our trip to New Orleans on one tank of fuel."

ERNEST D., AL (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"Very responsive , smooth, and powerful."

S V., OR (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"Very good driving and handling Easy for an old person to get in and out"

PEGGY V., MO (2011 Honda Odyssey)

Anonymous, FL (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"The front end has a little shaking upon braking. The dealer made it somewhat better, but the problem remains."

RICHARD V., KY (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"For a 4400 pound vehicle, great acceleration, handles like a much smaller car even when fully loaded."

FREDERICK C., FL (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"The 5 speed automatic transmission has trouble finding gears when the VCM is active at the same time."

JOE M., ON (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"very good driver"

Kevin R., OR (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"Adequate power and acceleration. Excellent when you consider the size of this van. Gas mileage is excellent ! 30 mpg on highway at 65 mph."

Anonymous, MD (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"Like it for long road trips!"

Patrick C., NY (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"The power is solid for a minivan; the turning radius is outstanding for a minivan."

Brian S., NC (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"Creaking noise in front suspension that Honda either cannot, or will not fix. They simply apply grease every time the car is in for service."

Terry P., IL (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"For a minivan, the Odyssey has great acceleration, and decent handling. It is almost like driving a sedan, just a big one."

Anonymous, NY (2011 Honda Odyssey)

Roy B., NC (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"Easy to drive and steer. Much more nimble that one would think"

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"comfortable seats"

Lorraine S., FL (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"Very comfortable and easy to adjust seats."

Anonymous, PA (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"Comfortable highway auto somewhat noisy. Comfortable seats for large people. Suspension, brakes, transmission and drive shaft stubs have been costly repair items. Best design we’ve seen of all the mainstreammin-vans. But Honda reliability is declining."

Peter B., CT (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"A very comfortable and refined van. It’s quiet, luxurious and an outstanding vehicle. Seats and ride are excellent, and noise levels are low."

Anonymous, AB (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"The seats are so comfortable, equal to a living room lounge chair!"

Kenneth M., SC (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"Front seats are not comfortable, middle and third row are awesome"

Anonymous, CA (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"we feel very safe as the honda is hefty, it also can carry a lot of people and stuff. it is comfortable too"

Anonymous, PA (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"The seats are very comfortable, although some riders in the third row seats complain about getting motion sickness. Having taken the minivan on multiple cross-country trips, I can safely say that the noise level from the engine/road is minimal."

Stephen B., MO (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"I am physically challenged a little. I find that entry and exit of the vehicle is pretty easy for me. Once IN the vehicle the seat offers good support and good comfort. All controls are placed well and I have no problem reaching or adjusting any of them. My only complaint is the heater/AC control panel. In certain light conditions it is difficult to read and makes selecting ventilation options bothersome to adjust."

Arthur H., NY (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"Comfortable seat for highway driving."

Anonymous, CA (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"Three is excessive wind nip ice. I took it in and dealer said “that all Odysseys have the same wind noise‿ The consol interferes with leg room and is uncomfortable."

Anonymous, TN (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"The "detente" retainer catch that holds front doors stationary without swinging back shut when you want them to stay open, is very weak and cannot hold the doors open when the van is even on the slightest incline. I have a disability & most times I have to grab my legs with my hands to swing them out. It is beyond inconvenient, rather it is very difficult to - partially pivot, catch & reopen the door - pivot again, catch & reopen the door, etc. For my wife and I the departure and decline to consumer-attentiveness is obvious. Another feature, equally annoying, is: In daylight, the display readout for the cabin temp/fan speed/fan direction "CANNOT" be seen without taking a hand off of the steering wheel and shading the, much too small & hidden readout "little" window - even then, depending on your driving direction, 2 hrs before and after midday, the display 'still' can't be read. This smacks of - (in the words used by "Law & Order's" McCoy and Cutter) - DEPRAVED INDIFFERENCE. N.B. (Humor intended, but the point made stands) Also, the clearance of the front shroud under the radiator constantly scrapes about every parking space curb stops in parking lots. Even our former '08 CRV had better ground clearance. This is our 4th or fifth Honda product and we're encountering things that have, in the past, been very uncharacteristic of this quality brand."

Anonymous, MS (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"Seats are very comfortable, even on long trips. Ride is very comfortable....smooth, but not mushy. Handles amazingly well for such a large vehicle."

Gary L., MD (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"Spacious, comfortable seating, moderate road noise."

Anonymous, NY (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"Very comfortable"

Geraldine P., PA (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"Seats are very comfortable for short and long rides in front row and middle row. Multiple settings and adjustments available. Noise level is very good. Ride is smooth, but you can still "feel" the road."

Anonymous, CA (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"Drives fine but there is an excessive amount of road noise on the highway. After driving 1-2 hours it becomes very annoying and tiresome. There is difficulty communicating with individuals in the rear seats."

Anonymous, OH (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"Very comfortable long range vehicle with good mileage. I drove from Rapid City to Minneapolis on ONE Tank of gas"

Anonymous, MN (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"Great long-distance cruiser. Smooth engine, lots of space for a big family and their stuff; just supremely comfortable overall. But wind/road noise is higher than expected."

Anonymous, CA (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"Not lumbar support. Sliding doors sometimes not easy to open."

Jorge O., NJ (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"It seats 8 and we have a 7 person family. We take the car everywhere we go as a family. It's been great for road trips as well."

Anonymous, TX (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"Excessive road noise"

Anonymous, FL (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"Swiss army knife of vehicles. Magic seat 3rd row very easy to use. Great seats, even the 3rd row, for adults. 2nd row middle is wide enough for a car seat. I don't understand why the stow n go is something people like - I've only taken some of the 2nd row seats out 5 times in 7 years."

Steven S., MD (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"The seats are flat, hard and not overly supportive (particularly on long trips). The rear seats are like park benches without lumbar support. The centre seating positions in the third and second rows have shoulder belts and cut across ones face/neck and feel more like hazard than safety system."

Anonymous, ON (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"Noise level -"

Anonymous, MO (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"The van is customized into a ramp van for wheelchair access. Exterior road noised are louder because more of the wheel wells are exposed to the interior and the bottom of the vehicle is closer to the road."

David C., NV (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"noise level is high"

Marta A., CA (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"The ride and seats are very comfortable, but the road noise is very intrusive."

Kevin S., FL (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"The Odyssey is the most comfortable vehicle for long trips that I've ever had. It has great front seats and a smooth ride."

Joseph R., VA (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"We drive to the west coast yearly to see our kids and we love our Odyssey."

Spence H., OH (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"Front seats are the most comfortable we've ever had. Middle seats, and even the third row seats, are comfortable enough for adults to use even for long trips."

W F., TX (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"I can get in and out easy .seat are comfortable.we choice van because of my bad back."

Bill G., AL (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"Very comfortable seats and ride, but not quiet."

Jason G., NJ (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"Seats are comfortable on long trips Noise is high and car doesn’t ride as nice as it once did"

Richard M., KY (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"The seats are comfortable and the van is very spacious. The ride is good, but not great, and there is a fair bit of road noise and wind noise at higher speeds. The road noise can be mitigated somewhat by the right tires, but it's still annoying in a car that is otherwise quiet."

Frank W., NM (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"solid, comfortable, easily adjustable, dual memory on driver's seat"

Anonymous, ON (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"It’s a quiet car. The captains seats push into your lower back oddly when fully reclined."

Mark R., MA (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"We love our Odyssey. Just wish it had a little less road noise. It's almost impossible to have a conversation with anyone in the middle seat and definitely impossible with the rear seat."

Anonymous, VA (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"very good seats; have held up well"

Jean B., CA (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"The front seat bottoms seem to be short are require my knees to extend several inches past the end of the seat. This causes discomfort of short and long trips. (I am 5’11‿ with an inseam of 32‿ - average )"

Stephen C., LA (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"The ride is somewhat harsh on roads with rough areas. On smooth roads the ride is very comfortable."

ROBERT L., IL (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"Seats great, climate control great, ride great, but has most road noise of any Oddssey I've owned. And this is the 3rd one I've owned."

Anonymous, IN (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"Best front seat comfort I've ever seen. When we purchased it, this was the only minivan with 3d row leg and head room for an adult."

WELLESLEY F., TX (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"Loud road noise"

KENT V., CT (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"Seat comfort ok. Leather is deteriorating much faster than previously owned Honda Acord. Sever cracks in leather and wear through gives impression that it is synthetic. Nav/speaker/radio xm feed very spoty depending on location. No signal in Florida Everglades so no trees to interfere. Carpet difficult to clean/retains spots. Interior has marked increase in road sounds. Suspect gaskets on doors failing."

MARK D., FL (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"Seating very comfortable, but for tall people, cockpit is a bit cramped; road noise especially wind noise around front door seals is better, but still too noisy. Factory tires put on the 2011 were contributor to highway noise. Higher quality tires made a difference when I put new ones on."

WILLIAM D., ID (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"Seats and front view is not made for a smaller/short person."

ROSEMARY T., MO (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"Springs are terribly soft. Car wallows. Low profile tires evidently caused harsher ride, thus softer springs. Shocks (struts) seem not to exist."

WILLIAM S., NC (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"A bit too much air noise"

Anonymous, FL (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"This is a considerable level of road noise relative to other vehicles at this price level."

JOE M., ON (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"The seat configurations are extraordinarily flexible, both for carrying cargo as well as passengers. Additionally, it can handle lots of large car seats easily. The auto climate control defaults to fresh air unless it really needs recirc, which is vastly better than Toyota defaulting to recirc unless you force it to fresh."

STEVEN S., MD (2011 Honda Odyssey)

Anonymous, ON (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"The drivers seat has conformed to my body and is most uncomfortable to sit on for even short trips. A big bump right in your backside."

COL C., NS (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"Physically comfortable for people of all ages in all seats. Even adults in the 3rd row are comfortable. On the downside, the road noise is just bad. No surprise there, but it's the kind of thing that you notice more and more over time, too. I intend to select the next set of replacement tires with noise in mind."

Anonymous, TX (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"Seats are pretty comfortable. Climate control is very difficult to locate and figure out in terms of controls for vents, various car areas. Car is plagued by road noise that can drown out the radio in certain instances. Voice communication between 1st and 3rd row seats is virtually impossible. The ride is very pleasant except for some wind noise at the leading edge of the front passenger door."

Anonymous, OR (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"Front seating: not contoured enough for long drives, lower back gets tired, arm rests could be configured better for long rides(closer?). Noisy on the highway - hard to hear back passengers and music. Acceleration is a "dog" and steering is not as easy( needs more power-assist) compared to my 2001 Odyssey which drove more like a car ( like our 2000 Accord) than a van-quicker response, acceleration and more precise steering. 2011 van is more "clunky". See Consumer Reports 2011 video report on th"

KEITH L., MI (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"Separate climate control of heat/cooling, works well and controls are excellent. Steering wheel is uncomfortable for long hours driving i.e. the lower 'slot' in the wheel is too small for my hand to go through comfortably."

PHILLIP W., WY (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"It still has a lot of road noise"

JON S., TX (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"Too much road noise. Would get the Touring model next time."

W M., GA (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"Like the hight of car that makes it easy for elders to get in and out, sit perfectly high enough in comfortable seats and surroundings. Really like back up camera. Wish van was as short as SUV but SUV is too high to get up into for old bodies."

Value

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

"Fair, The engine issues (burning oil) were very tough to get Honda to deal with when in warranty. Honda finally rebuilt the engine, which would have been expensive if we didn't push so hard."

Johnson A., CT (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"I try to keep cars at least 10 or so years, which has worked well with my first and second Odysseys. They were very competitvely priced and I thought offered the best value. Neither my current nor former van required anything except routine maintenance."

Joseph R., VA (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"We bought this vehicle based on it's CR rating and have not been disappointed. After six years it still runs and feels like new, and has all the modern conveniences a family needs."

Derrik L., WA (2011 Honda Odyssey)

Anonymous, NY (2011 Honda Odyssey)

Anonymous, OH (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"The reliability has been excellent. The only extraordinary service it has ever required are the TPMS sensors. I am not a car buff. I want a machine that does what I expect it to when I turn the key. This vehicle does just that!"

Anonymous, SC (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"The van was expensive. My biggest complaint was to get certain features we had to get top of the line."

Richard M., KY (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"Although it seemed expensive when we bought it (even after a month of shopping around and pitting dealers against each other to get a "good" deal), it has been an extremely reliable and useful automobile. No other reliable (and reasonably handling minivan - unlike the Toyota Siena) car can cart 2 adults and 3 kids (sometimes more) and a family's luggage in anything close to comfort or safety. And it hits the industry average for MPG, too!"

Stephen B., MO (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"It wasn't cheap per se, but it was the best minivan on the market - and reasonably priced for that, as a result"

Anonymous, CA (2011 Honda Odyssey)

TROY P., MN (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"Car prices are too high in general. We purchased this vehicle used and saved a lot money. Honda had already made a lot of money from the person that originaly leased this vehicle. This was the best priced vehicle that fit in our budget at the time. I do wish we had gotten the backup camera though."

"In 2011, the competing Toyota Sienna had gimmicky plastic controls. The Odyssey simply outclassed the competition in terms of quality and driving experience. It also outclassed the competition on the price tag. I paid more for this vehicle than I would have for a competitor. In return, the Odyssey has horrible value as the MPG is never as advertised, fit and finish deteriorated quickly, brake rotor warping issues surfaced at just 8k miles, it has a recurring power steering pump issue requirin"

"It is a great car but road noise in the cabin is annoying."

DOUGLAS S., CO (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"It has been a very good van for the money. Other than routine maintenance the car has been fine. Its comfortable and roomy and moves everyone around fine."

THOMAS M., NJ (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"This vehicle can do so many things. Camping equipment, canoes on top, holds construction supplies, you can move furniture and boxes for college /apartment moves. Holds senior citizens and toddlers in seating with ease."

John G., PA (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"The Odyssey gets significantly better gas mileage on highway trips than in the city. It's got a commanding view of the road and the automatic doors are surprisingly helpful. Seating capacity and the ability to separate certain passengers with the middle bucket seats or into a different row can help keep the peace on long trips!"

Mark R., MA (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"EX-L van was almost $45,000 dollars for a van body stuck on an Accord V-6 underpinnings which almost $20K less in cost. Too much money for not much more in materials and labor. Like pickup trucks I think the automaker is gouging people on its popular models."

Marc W., OH (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"Great long term family vehicle. We purchased the vehicle for ease of entry for our older Golden Retrievers."

John J., ME (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"We are aware that we paid a premium for the Odyssey, but feel that the value returned in problem free operation is worth it."

Thomas C., AZ (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"Our preferred model was not available - however the salesperson said that they could have add-on (eg sensors and in-seat DVD players) that would make it equivalent - any post market add on even if arranged by dealer never is the same and does not work well. Overpaid the value of the car."

Styling

How it looks inside and out

What Owners Say

"The styling (outside) is well done and it is the most "sexy" van out there"

Anonymous, QC (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"For a $40,000 car, I would expect it to be so much less pedestrian. It is the most boring motoring experience imaginable."

Anonymous, TX (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"The best looking minivan out there. Has style and doesn't look like all the others"

JACK W., MI (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"Easy access to 3rd row split seats which fold down for lots of hauling"

Anonymous, NY (2011 Honda Odyssey)

"Preferred the previous models (smooth line) styling of the body, as opposed to the 2011 model (drop rear end) styling."
