Reliability History Reliability History The reliability charts are based on responses on hundreds of thousands of vehicles from our latest Annual Auto Survey. Consumer Reports subscribers reported on any serious problems they had with their vehicles during the past 12 months that they considered serious because of cost, failure, safety, or downtime, in any of the trouble spots included in the table below. The results are presented relative to the average model that year. Extra weight is given to the more serious areas such as major engine or transmission problems. Based on this data and further analysis, we predict reliability for the latest year. N/A indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

Riding and handling like a good sedan, the Ridgeline rewrites the book on pickups. It's a truck that isn't a hardship to drive. Further, it has many unique innovations, including a tailgate that opens vertically or horizontally and a lockable trunk. The roomy cab is nicely detailed and easy to access, with comfortable seats. While not designed for serious off-roading, Ridgeline also scaled our demanding rock hill.

Towing capacity is a relatively modest 5,000 pounds and the bed is relatively short. At 15 mpg overall, fuel economy only matches that of some full-sized trucks. And even though Honda built this first-generation Ridgeline from 2006-2014, updates during that time were few and far between, so don't expect modern electronic features in the latest Ridgelines.

David B., ME (2006 Honda Ridgeline RTL 3.5-L V6)

"The source of the leak cannot be found. Se we will continue to put steering fluid into the vehicle"

David E., GA (2006 Honda Ridgeline RTS 3.5-L V6)
Power steering pumps and hoses

"Power steering pump started making excessive whining noise during parking maneuvers. Dealer replaced pump."

Anonymous, IN (2006 Honda Ridgeline RTL 3.5-L V6)

"Less than 1,000 miles after the steering rack was replaced the power steering pump started whining. Not sure the two are related but the pump has been replaced now"

J W., IN (2006 Honda Ridgeline RTL 3.5-L V6)
Shocks or struts

"I had to replace all four shocks/struts within the last 12 months when I started experiencing problems with a very rough ride in the Ridgeline. Even traveling over the slightest bump in would result in a jarring experience. The problem was resolved only after replacing all four shocks/struts at a very significant cost."

Anonymous, CA (2006 Honda Ridgeline RTS 3.5-L V6)

"This was an issue that I found out about after I bought the truck. I think this could be just wear and tear on the truck. But upset I had to take care of it right after I bought the truck."

Anonymous, (2006 Honda Ridgeline RTS 3.5-L V6)

"Age and miles- there were squeaks and groans and the ride was less controlled. Ride and noise are improved, almost new in quality"

Anonymous, NC (2006 Honda Ridgeline RTL 3.5-L V6)

"My lifetime shock absorber warranty was not honored. I had to pay for their replacement; the vehicle continues to ride "extremely bumpy"..."

Anonymous, (2006 Honda Ridgeline RTL 3.5-L V6)

Anonymous, CA (2006 Honda Ridgeline RTL 3.5-L V6)

"leak in rear shock"

Fred I., CT (2006 Honda Ridgeline RT 3.5-L V6)

"I noticed a noise in my right rear tire area of my truck. I was told by a mechanic that it was probably a strut going bad. I had all four struts replaced. Problem fixed"

Glenn M., GA (2006 Honda Ridgeline RTL 3.5-L V6)

"After 200000 km, the shocks were not as stiff as they once were. The truck runs fine otherwise so I decided to refresh the drive and suspension"

John L., QC (2006 Honda Ridgeline RTL 3.5-L V6)

"The struts have been the problem thru the years that I have had the ridgeline"

Anonymous, AZ (2006 Honda Ridgeline RTS 3.5-L V6)

What Owners Say

Body control module

Anonymous, NC (2006 Honda Ridgeline 3.5-L V6)
Gauges

"Speedometer malfunctioned. Purchased a used one from wrecking yard and installed myself"

Anonymous, (2006 Honda Ridgeline RTL 3.5-L V6)

"The electronic display that shows the mileage, tire pressure monitor etc. occasionally freeze, goes blank and/or odd characters show up. As such I can't read the mileage or know if other guages are working properly. Doesn't happen all the time...is hit and miss. Seems to be worse in colder weather or if I haven't driven the vehicle for a while. Dealer can't always replicate because as said its hit and miss. They did see the blank display once and said the only thing they could do is remove the dash and provide me with a new instrument cluster, but very expensive +$1,500 as such I've let it go. Oddly enough when they repaired the airbags per warranty recall, it worked fine for about a year, but then started happening again."

Anonymous, TX (2006 Honda Ridgeline 3.5-L V6)

"The electronic dashboard display goes out intermittently. All of the lights on the dash disappear for a while then eventually come back on. Shop said they have to remove entire display and send for repair as it cannot be replaced due to odometer is part of system"

Randy F., CA (2006 Honda Ridgeline 3.5-L V6)

"LED backlit gauge (odometer, mileage) goes blank in cold weather and doesn't become visible until the ambient temperature rises out of the 40s"

Anonymous, NC (2006 Honda Ridgeline RT 3.5-L V6)

"Odometer keeps flashing on/off. They say (dealer) that it needs a whole new one at the cost of $1300. I think I'll keep fighting and keeping my fingers crossed that I can get mileage when I fill up"

Larry M., WA (2006 Honda Ridgeline RT 3.5-L V6)

"The dashboard display goes off and on. Sometimes it goes off for a day or two then works for a month and then goes off again. To get it repaired they need to remove it and send it in for repair. It could take a couple weeks which is too long."

Randy F., CA (2006 Honda Ridgeline 3.5-L V6)

Transmission leaks

"The leaking transmission is where the two parts mate together. Honda wanted to replace the entire transmission, saying they don't work on the transmissions. I had them place a sealant around the gasket. This cost me 200 vs 4600 Honda quoted me for a new transmission. The leak is less now and I watch the fluid level. The transmission shop said they could replace the seal for 200, Honda would not replace the seal"

Greg B., OH (2006 Honda Ridgeline RT 3.5-L V6)
Transmission sensor or solenoid

"The gear indicator "D" on the dashboard started to blink. That indicated a transmission problem. I took it to the dealer and they indicated it was a temperature sensor and ordered the part. It was replaced but did not fix the problem. A second technician looked at it and noticed some wires that appeared to have been gnawed by some critter. The wires were repaired and that took care of the problem. It was unlikely that the $400 to replace the temperature sensor was really needed."
