2018 Honda Ridgeline Owner Satisfaction - Consumer Reports
With the Ridgeline, Honda has evolved the concept of the pickup, creating a smart truck aimed squarely at the actual needs of most pickup owners. The original, innovative Ridgeline turned off many buyers because of its peculiar styling. The lessons have been learned. As a result, the second-generation Ridgeline looks much more conventional, while being even more sensible.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Driving Experience

What Owners Say

"It handles like a Pilot only better, easily as good as a Mazda CX-9, with the AWD it corners very confidently. It's very quick, or quick enough for me, at sea level. Being non boosted it softens off a bit at altitude but the VTEC helps some. All of this keeping in mind, IT'S a TRUCK."

Frank D., CA (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"Smooth drive, a truck that drives like a car."

Anonymous, CO (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"excellent - no issues at all"

Anonymous, CT (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"The acceleration is more than adequate for almost all normal driving conditions. Handling is secure for a pickup and in comparison to peers"

Anonymous, AR (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"VS 2012 Tacoma SR5 4 cylinder trade: flatter in turns, better brakes, 280 hp can make it up hills, faster (can pass a truck), front wheel drive traction is outstanding in snow, quiet, smoother ride, tows and hauls slightly better - all this with 27 mpg in daily driving. Had fog lights installed, stock headlights are average. Locking trunk is great in a pickup. Under $30k price is outstanding. Aerodynamics seem best of any pickup. Lots of standard features in a base model, had to order mine. The most American-made pickup truck isn’t Chevy Silverado or Ford F-150. Most US content is the Alabama made Honda Ridgeline. Too bad Honda does not have ads as good as Ford or Chevy."

Anonymous, OH (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"Extreme acceleration for passing is not smooth or consistent. Depending on speed, there is a lag time between the time that the accelerator is depressed and actual acceleration."

Anonymous, NC (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"Handles like a sedan, not a truck."

Anonymous, FL (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"I find that the V6 is a bit sluggish compared to other vehicles, including trucks, that I’ve owned."

Anonymous, AL (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"It’s not so much about handling...but the truck NEEDS a lock for the tailgate. I know the ‘trunk’ locks, but if you have a cover on the truck and a larger load that won’t fit in the trunk, you have to go to a secondary market vendor to have a tailgate lock installed yourself. NEED TO GIVE US A LOCKING TAILGATE!"

Anonymous, AL (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"Only one word... Excellent!"

Sam J., IN (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"Handling and acceleration are unremarkable, but very acceptable. I should note that I use the ECO setting almost all the time, which dials back the acceleration a bit."

Anonymous, CA (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"The Honda v6 is the smoothest drive train I’ve driven. Effortless passing power with good fuel efficiency. Drives like the Honda Pilot."

Shane D., NS (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"The Ridgeline is very smooth and handles very securely. My wife can also drive it."

Anonymous, IL (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

Anonymous, MA (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"great!"

Anonymous, IL (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"You wouldn't know you are in a truck, rides like a very comfortable SUV. Acceleration and handling are superb. In fact, the off-the-line acceleration is excellent for a truck. Passing is quick and without drama. Well done Honda."

Anonymous, GA (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"Has plenty of "get up". Doesn't ride like a truck"

Larry B., MO (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"very good acceleration & handling. very pleased"

Anonymous, NY (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"Eco mode saves gas, runs a little rougher, power mode, really gets up and goes. Handles great on rough roads and long drives."

Scott C., CA (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"Good fuel economy while providing ample power in differing conditions"

Anonymous, TN (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"I've only had the truck since late March, and have relatively low miles on it. I currently drive it in the Econ Mode 100% of the time, so I'm not sure what differences in acceleration there are under 'normal'. I do notice that the acceleration is somewhat lagging, without putting my foot well into it, when adjusting to a change in road slope at 'city' speeds. I'd prefer a bit more responsiveness - so I need to try out of Econ."

Craig T., CO (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"Great ride. AWD really helpful on gravel roads and towing. Adaptive cruise control works very well."

Daniel O., CO (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"The Ridgeline has a very comfortable ride. Acceleration is average. Braking is responsive."

Adam M., MN (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"Acceleration is great and the handling is too! Very sporty."

Anonymous, FL (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"Utility of a midsize truck with the ride of a midsize SUV."

Tony P., GA (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"Very responsive in all respects"

Darlene B., WI (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"Drives much like a car with ample power and quick responses to driver inputs. Could take on long trips and enjoy the ride."

Ronald C., NC (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"Very snappy, takes speedbumps with great control"

Thomas C., FL (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"You can use gas saver button or leave it off for greater acceleration. I use the gas saver and have no problem with acceleration. Handles great on the road."

Thomas B., TX (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"Acceleration is good for a truck. Handles nice. Haven't used the all-wheel drive in the snow or dirt yet. Very comfortable drive on the roads."

Anonymous, OR (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"Acceleration is very responsive with Econ button in the off position but the mpg drops to about 15. Started using the Econ mode daily and now average 17.6. The truck drives excellent and should be on most city/suburban truck owners shopping list."

Dave C., PA (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"This truck surprises me with its ability to tow our 3500 pound Casita Travel Trailer. Very smooth and comfortable."

Edward W., WA (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"Handles more like a car, very comfortable for long drives"

Anonymous, CA (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"The Ridgeline is smooth driving and a pleasure to drive in traffic and on the open road. I believe its handling is better than or equal to the SUVs and Cadillac CTSs we have owned."

Anonymous, AL (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"Everything about the new Ridgeline is wonderful except for the Audio controls! Of course I paid more to get a RTL-E which has many extra features, but it is worth the cost!!! My wife says we will never get rid of it because she loves it.!"

Anonymous, FL (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"Very comfortable ride"

Anonymous, MI (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"acceleration is great and smooth handles well (cornering and braking)"

Anonymous, FL (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"Steering is light but firm, acceleration is there when needed, cruises with little effort."

Donald P., FL (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"The handling of the Ridgeline is very similar to a sedan, although there is more body roll due to it’s higher profile."

What Owners Say

"Best riding truck I’ve ever drove."

Anonymous, MS (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"My Ridgeline has a tremendous ride on the long road, and both my wife and I love the comfort of the seats front and back."

Enrique G., TX (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"Very quiet ride. The seats are very adjustable and the car remembers 2 different driver settings. Seats are heated, if you like. It does not feel like a truck when you are driving it, it feels more like a SUV. Long distance drives are not too bad in this vehicle, better than other cars I've had."

Blaze K., CA (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"It is a very comfortable vehicle and drives more like a car than a truck. It is also very comfortable on long road trips and is very good at absorbing road imperfections."

Anonymous, UT (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"The front seats have very good support for my legs and back. Lots of headroom even though it has a sunroof."

Anonymous, AZ (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

Anonymous, TX (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"Very comfortable seats and rides like a car."

Mark M., PA (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

Frank D., CA (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"Seats are VERY comfortable on lone trips. The Ridgeline affords a pleasant ride and controls seem well positioned."

Anonymous, PA (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"The low noise level was something we noticed right away. The ride is pleasant, especially for a pickup."

Anonymous, TN (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"Excellent first row seats, very comfortable. Rear seats are not well padded. Noise is very low. Ride is like a Honda Pilot."

Anonymous, CA (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"Drive seat makes popping noise when entering and during some vehicle movements. Turning corners etc."

Robert A., AR (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"The most "car-like" ride in any small truck. Comfortable and quiet for four passengers; a little more spartan back seat if you add a 5th."

Raymond B., NC (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"Seats are very comfortable in the front. The rear seats are pretty cramped and the rear doors should open farther. With the rear seats up, there is A LOT of room to haul things."

Adam M., MN (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"The seats are quite comfortable with numerous adjustments, rides very mice and the client control works well. HOWEVER, why in the world they took out the drivers right arm rest is beyond me. I almost did not purchase the rig becuase of this. Also they eliminated the speed dependent wiper control. Both are sorely needed"

Jeffrey M., WA (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"The seats are very comfortable for both long and short drives . Noise level is very low. The ride is very smooth and can handle rough roads"

Tom J., NE (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"Seating is very comfortable and well made, noise level excellent inside and the ride is slightly truck like but you always feel in control."

Dave C., PA (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"Have driven on several road trips. 2018 Ridgeline has ample storage with under bed trunk. A joy to drive. Vehicle controls , economy.... fantastic!"

Sam J., IN (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"Seats are extremely comfortable, supportive, firm. Ride is very good for a pickup. One complaint is very noticeable wind noise coming from drivers door window area. Seems like weather strip is not sealing wind"

S G., WI (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"A very comfortable vehicle to drive day everyday or long trips"

Anonymous, GA (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"Very comfortable. "Nice ride". Feels "solid""

"Better than other small pick-ups (Mazda, Tacoma, Ranger) that I have owned in the past."

Anonymous, ME (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"Oveall I really like the ridgeline HOWEVER Honda continues to have problems with wind noise. When there is high winds the noise around the front windows is very loud!! You would think after all these years Honda would knwo how to make a quiet cabin."

Tom D., PA (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"Decent side bolsters and wide range of adjustments available."

Anonymous, CO (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"The Ridgeline is very comfortable to drive. It handles more like a car. Noise level is low."

James C., VA (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

Edward W., WA (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"Excellent ride, reasonably quiet, comfortable and adjustable seats"

Anonymous, CA (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"seats: very comfortable noise: extremely quiet ride: smooth, handles well,"

Anonymous, FL (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"Seats got hard on a long drive"

James C., FL (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"The seat pan and back design cause great pain. the back of the seat pan tilts slightly upward and impacts my tail board causing terrible pain. And the area that should match the curve of my back to way too short, causing the top of the seat back to push against my upper back, causing severe pain."

Anonymous, NH (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"great!"

Anonymous, IL (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"This truck rides, and handles like an suv. Excellent driving dynamics and good power with a very quiet ride."

Shane D., NS (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"The 2018 Honda Ridgeline is amazingly comfortable. Rides like a luxury car rather than a truck. There is absolutely NO cabin noise. You can carry on a conversation or listen to the radio on a low volume setting with no problems. Whatever they've done to stop cabin noise should be followed by all manufacturers."

B M., AL (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"Unusually comfortable and quiet for a pickup truck. Not at all punishing like the pickups I have owned in the past."

Ronald C., NC (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

Paul G., OR (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"This little truck is as comfortable and easy to get in and out as any sedan. the reason we chose this truck was mostly for comfort and ease of driving."

Anonymous, TX (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

What Owners Say

"This is the 6th Honda I’ve owned. The last was a 2010 Ridgeline that I bought new. Put 300,000 miles on it & it still ran extreamly well, Good pick up and did not use any oil. Got an extremely good price for it when I got my 2018. I put a LOT on miles on vechicles and have always had Honda’s go the distance. I tried a couple of other males in years past & always ended up being nickel & dimmed to xxxxx trying to keep them running."

Jeffrey M., WA (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"Received $4000 discount on sticker price, good overall performance and features for less than $40K"

Anonymous, CA (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"Most buyers go for big & old tech. Front wheel drive works! Rear wheel drive in snow is horrible and archaic. Price of 4 wheel drive is high, heavier, lowers performance and mpg. RT V6: 27 mpg overall is great! Ford & Chevy aerodynamics of a brick and truck ride: no. Composite bed with a trunk is convenient plus never rusts! Subwoofer on base model is sweet. ~$28k price and features shamed my old 4 cylinder Tacoma which got worse mpg and poor power. Comes with receiver, tows Razor well with KTM 500 and DR 400 in bed. 2 Tacomas' steel wheels showed rust in 12 months, RT alloys are standard on base model."

Anonymous, OH (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"The touring (E) trim line comes well appointed, but u pay for those features. Overall it is an excellent vehicle."

Anonymous, PA (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"Despite what vehicle testers have achieved in gas mileage for the 2018 Honda Ridgeline, I have never achieved even the normal City 18 miles per gallon in Combined driving. on one strictly highway driving at 65 to 70 miles per hour the Ridgeline and actually exceeded 20 miles per gallon! The dealership does not want to investigate this obvious defect and I have kept detailed records of mileage and gasoline usage for the last 11 months and plan 2 return this vehicle under the Florida Lemon Law if they cannot resolve this. The extra cost for the safety sensing feature has not been worthwhile. The cruise control keeps you at a distance even at the closest setting that encourages other drivers to cut in front of you in normal highway driving and you can't switch this off and just set a continuous Cruise speed. The sensor on the front of this vehicle which controls all of the safety functions was defective and failed within the first month of ownership. This part was not available unless it was stripped from another vehicle and recalibrated for 3 weeks. This is totally unacceptable and I'm ashamed that Honda has included this option when they have not perfected it. Basically I would not recommend this vehicle to anyone although I have owned Hondas which gave me satisfaction since 1984. I will look for another brand of vehicle in the future"

Anya C., FL (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"Extremely slow response time. No mechanical controls, only touch screen and steering wheel buttons."

Anonymous, OK (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"It rides great. Style is beautiful. Very reliable"

Anonymous, NC (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"For the cost it did not offer blind spot detection or forward collision alert or lane alert which Toyota offered."

Anonymous, FL (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"I believe trucks are overpriced in general, but that I bought a well appointed truck."

Anonymous, TX (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"The Ridgeline is a pickup truck. It's proven itself as a very reliable vehicle for that purpose. I've carried snow blowers, landscaping equipment, Christmas trees, loads of cut wood and sporting equipment with out any problems. I also love the trunk hidden under the load area of the truck, it hides and protects my tools quite nicely. When you add in the comfort, safety and economy factors, I believe it is a very good value for the money."

Anonymous, MA (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"This is the best mid sized pickup available right now when it comes to value."

Anonymous, AR (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"I feel it was a good price with all the features the vehicle had (back up camera, back up motion sensors, lane keep assist, emergency braking, cruise control, large GPS screen, comfort, etc.).,"

"I have owned two Toyota Tacoma's (i.e., 2006 & 2001), and I believe my 2018 Honda Ridgeline is superior and will hold its value as long or longer than the Tacoma."

Anonymous, AL (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"For an AWD crew cab pickup truck, it's a bargain. It's not a true truck, not having a body on frame but makes up for it with comfort and ride quality. It's a "Truck Lite"."

Anonymous, MD (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"I think the Ridgeline is a little pricy and we should have perhaps shopped around a little more than we did. We just bought the first one we drove."

Anonymous, TX (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"I have no buyer remorse. I have not been disappointed with the truck performance."

Tom J., NE (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"Very dependable, unique differences (dual tailgate opening, tie down-brackets in truck bed, under-bed lockable storage bin, back seat climate controls), good gas milage"

Anonymous, ME (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"Despite being a midsize pick up truck, it’s extremely comfortable, roomy, versatile & capable. No other competitor is quite like it."

Juan B., NC (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"You get more options, better fuel economy, better handling than with the competition. You do sacrifice some towing and hauling capability, but if you don't need it, then this is the truck for you."

Anonymous, FL (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"The Ridgeline does so much. It is a comfortable SUV, a pick up and so much more all in one automobile."

Bob A., TN (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"Good value and dependable"

Bob T., MO (2018 Honda Ridgeline)

"The truck is great - handles well, quiet on the road - only real issue I have is when you make a call it shows up on the screen as private and you have to take your eyes off the road to change the setting - dangerous !"
