Hyundai Palisade

The three-row Palisade is an extremely functional family vehicle, distinguished by a no-nonsense powertrain and thoughtfully designed interior. It joins the mechanically related Kia Telluride in disrupting the rankings within this popular vehicle class. The Palisade scored high in our testing but not as high as the Telluride. Several nuances in terms of ride, handling, braking, and control layout account for the difference.

Reliability indicates how models have performed in the past, providing the basis for predicting how the vehicles will hold up in the year ahead. These charts provide the most comprehensive reliability information available to consumers. Based on information received from our latest subscriber survey for about 329,000 vehicles, our reliability history charts give you a rundown on how 2000 through 2020 vehicles are holding up in 17 potential trouble spots, ranging from the engine, transmission, and brakes to power equipment and the electrical system. NA indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2020 Hyundai Palisade owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

Body Integrity

Squeaks, rattles, wind noises, loose or cracked seals and/or weather-stripping, air and water leaks.

What Owners Say

Seals and/or weather-stripping

"wind noise from moonroof seal"

Anonymous, FL (2020 Hyundai Palisade SE 3.8-L V6)

"SAme"

Anonymous, NC (2020 Hyundai Palisade SEL 3.8-L V6)

"Excessive wind noise from door and window seals at highway speed. Substantially but not completely resolved."

Anonymous, (2020 Hyundai Palisade SEL 3.8-L V6)

"They are related in some way to my previous post."

Anonymous, NY (2020 Hyundai Palisade Ultimate 3.8-L V6)
Wind noise

"Driver side window wind noise starts about 45 mph. Reported to dealer after 2 weeks of ownership. They were aware, replaced exaggeration above window. No relief, actually intensified. Long trips during that period were very uncomfortable. Returned to dealer for second fix, which was to replace side mirror but told that would not be done until there was an official recall..which would be after some huge number of complaints. Basically no help, go live with it. At $40,000, I don't like that answer. Problem seems to be widely reported on owner forums."

Anonymous, SC (2020 Hyundai Palisade SE 3.8-L V6)

"There is a high-pitched noise coming from driver's side window area while driving at highway speeds. The noise level increases with vehicle speed starting at around 65mph, although wind gusts also are a contributing factor. The noise similar to the high-pitched sound that a tea kettle makes with boiling water. It is loud enough to not only be a major nuisance, but also a safety concern because you can not carry a conversation with other passengers, much less hear external sounds. The wind noise disappears when you recirculate the cabin air vs. having fresh air. Also, the wind noise begins at lower vehicle speeds and is much louder when you increase the fan speed manually."

Anonymous, CA (2020 Hyundai Palisade SEL 3.8-L V6)

"On the highway the driver's window sounds like it is slightly open. The roof rail is also a bit loose. The dealer is going to fix both things."

Anonymous, MA (2020 Hyundai Palisade SEL 3.8-L V6)

"Front door seals have loud wind noise, manufacture technical bulletin provided no help."

Anonymous, NC (2020 Hyundai Palisade SEL 3.8-L V6)

"Windows are very thin. When Climate control is on and cabin fan is set higher with windows closed, the pressure in the inside causes the front two windows to vibrate at a very annoying level at higher speeds (65 mph and higher). TSB's didn't fix the issue. Still unfixed and awaiting some kind of resolution from Hyundai. Long trips are almost unbearable with the noise."

Anonymous, (2020 Hyundai Palisade SEL 3.8-L V6)

"We experience wind noise when cruising at highway speeds with the Climate System on Auto. When we switch the air to recirculate the wind noise stops."

Anonymous, WA (2020 Hyundai Palisade Ultimate 3.8-L V6)

"Driver's side wind noise at highway speeds"

Anonymous, CA (2020 Hyundai Palisade Limited 3.8-L V6)

"Whistling noise from one door that was fixed by replacing door seal."

Anonymous, VT (2020 Hyundai Palisade Limited 3.8-L V6)

"Driver's side window has a slight whistle as speed increases. Dealer has stated will be addressed at servicing."

Anonymous, CA (2020 Hyundai Palisade Limited 3.8-L V6)

"Wind noise at interstate speeds"

Anonymous, LA (2020 Hyundai Palisade Limited 3.8-L V6)

"the driver side window had a whistling sound when driving above 45 mph with any kind of outside wind or faster speeds of 50 to 70 mph. The noise was very annoying."

Anonymous, (2020 Hyundai Palisade Limited 3.8-L V6)

"Although this wind noise did not cause my car to become inoperable it is unacceptable for a new car to have this loud of a wind noise coming through the driver side top back corner of the door. I have taken the vehicle in at which time the service guy said he did not hear anything but when talking to the service person at the counter he had said that they had had numerous complaints about this. They have not come up with a recall. The wind noise is so loud that you can not use the Bluetooth on the car. It is not enjoyable to drive."

Anonymous, WI (2020 Hyundai Palisade Limited 3.8-L V6)

"There is a "whistle" coming from the front passenger side near the roof. The car has been back to the dealer 3 times. This is a well documented fault which I knew about when I bought the car but figured the dealer would solve the problem but has not up to date. It is VERY annoying and it comes and goes which is the problem. The dealer and various web sites think it is related to the window frame mounted to the door. Various shims have been tried but to no avail. The car is really great except for this issue and I getting the feeling that Hyundai is not very interested in fixing it. I may have to invoke the new york lemon law if i cant get satisfaction but I really don't want to lose this car because it is prefect otherwise."

Anonymous, NY (2020 Hyundai Palisade Ultimate 3.8-L V6)

"When the wind is blowing above 20 mph, I hear a wind noise when I'm driving. Sometimes it's minor, but other times the wind sounds fierce. The dealer said they'll fix it when I bring it in for the first servicing."

Anonymous, IL (2020 Hyundai Palisade Unsure 3.8-L V6)

What Owners Say

Hardware replacement

"The entire unit had an issue whereby it was also draining the battery"

Anonymous, FL (2020 Hyundai Palisade Limited 3.8-L V6)
In-dash navigation system (GPS)

"Navigation frozen, had to use reset push switch to reset screen turns blue."

Anonymous, MA (2020 Hyundai Palisade SEL 3.8-L V6)

"The one software update to the Hyundai in-dash GPS since getting it new a year ago has actually made the navigation worse. It will now indicate that the driver can turn right or left from lanes that actually don't permit it. For example, on some busy streets, the system will now indicate that can right or left from a center lane when it's both illegal and unsafe as there are already dedicated turn lanes at those intersections. So if a driver blindly follows the updated GPS instructions, they will likely cause an accident. The original GPS was often inaccurate and will try to send a driver blocks away from where the actual address or business they had entered on the system, but at least the lane direction indicators were more accurate and it didn't indicate that drivers could turn from lanes that don't permit it."

"related to blind spot monitor required only software to update."

What Owners Say

Driveshaft or axle

"Vibration started at about 2000 miles. Dealership replaced drive shaft which corrected the problem. This was a known issue in early production."

Anonymous, OH (2020 Hyundai Palisade SEL 3.8-L V6)

"The vehicle would shake at speeds of 63-70 mph. It was identified that the driveshaft was the culprit and the dealer replaced it on warranty. I no longer have the problem"
