The Infiniti G25 sports sedan offers almost everything the top-rated G37 does but costs less. The G25 is agile and fun to drive. Further, its interior is well finished and fairly quiet. Definitely skewing toward the sporty side, ride quality is taut, composed and comfortable enough -- but not exactly luxurious. With its smaller V6, the G25 is noticeably slower than the G37, but gets substantially better fuel economy.

Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2012 Infiniti G owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

Brakes

Antilock system (ABS), parking brake, master cylinder, calipers, rotors, pulsation or vibration, squeaking, brake failure or wear.

What Owners Say

Calipers

"One of the calipers locked not allowing the breaks to be applied equally, this in turn created vibration when I breaked and premature wear of my rotor"

Jerry A., MD (2012 Infiniti G X 3.7-L V6)
Normal routine brake wear

"Caliper pads replaced. Rear rotors replaced. Front rotors ground and polished."

Anonymous, MD (2012 Infiniti G X 3.7-L V6)

"Replaced the front discs and pads. There was chatter in the front end due to normal wear."

Peter B., OH (2012 Infiniti G X 3.7-L V6)
Parking brake

"Sensor for parking brake dislodged and kept turning the warning light on while the car was running, especially when it was cold"

Anonymous, QC (2012 Infiniti G Sport 3.7-L V6)

"Had to have the parking break replaced apparently due to the cables wearing out"

Anonymous, ON (2012 Infiniti G)
Premature brake wear

"The rear break pad thickness was below recommended level and had to replace. The front breaks were OK but had to be cleaned because of build up of break dust"

Anonymous, MB (2012 Infiniti G X 3.7-L V6)

"Had to replace brakes , pads, rotors twice"

Anonymous, FL (2012 Infiniti G Sport 3.7-L V6)

"I had to have the front brake job done after buying the car with only 36000 miles on it. Although it was 3.5 years old, I wouldn't normally expect brakes to go so soon. Maybe the previous owner was hard on the brakes. It's fine now and drives great"

Curtis C., FL (2012 Infiniti G Sport 3.7-L V6)

"Needed new rear brake pads at 20,000 miles"

Allen H., IL (2012 Infiniti G X 3.7-L V6)

"Premature break wear on one rear brake consisted of frozen bake caliper slide. This occurred only after 1 year and 20K miles of having brakes serviced last"

Kevin F., IL (2012 Infiniti G X 3.7-L V6)

"needed new brakes at 21,000 miles"

Anonymous, PA (2012 Infiniti G X 2.5-L V6)

"rear brake pads had to be replaced at 35000kms"

Anonymous, ON (2012 Infiniti G X 3.7-L V6)

"Something was rubbing when the vehicle turned. Took it into the dealer (still under warranty). something was wrong with the brakes sticking and constantly being engaged and wearing down,"

David M., OH (2012 Infiniti G Journey 3.7-L V6)

"Annoying brake squeal when brakes first applied and then a few times more as the car is driven. This occurred since the day the car was leased..The dealer said it is normal and as of this date the brakes still have over 25% left before needing to be"

Jim B., CA (2012 Infiniti G 2.5-L V6)

"Rear pads replaced and discs turned after only 35,000 km"

Anonymous, QC (2012 Infiniti G Sport 3.7-L V6)

"Brake pads needed to be replaced after only 20,000 miles. When compared to my Lexus, the Brake pads were replaced at 40,000 miles"

Anonymous, MA (2012 Infiniti G X 3.7-L V6)

"I had normal brake wear, however my repair shop replaced pads and not rotors. This led to more wear and rough braking. Repair shop didn't charge me for new pads; rotors and pads took care of problem.."

Cathy G., VA (2012 Infiniti G)

"Associated with the rotors. Not sure which is the root cause of the pulsing brakes due to uneven wear or warping. Fix has been to replace both pads and rotors. Not a cheap fix and it is beginning to show similar signs once again."

Anonymous, MD (2012 Infiniti G Sport 3.7-L V6)

"Rusting"

Anonymous, ON (2012 Infiniti G X 3.7-L V6)
Rotors

"Single rear rotor was damaged due to the frozen bake caliper slide which required replacement of rotors as a result"

Kevin F., IL (2012 Infiniti G X 3.7-L V6)

"had to replace twice with less than 20000 miles. also tires now have to be repalced"

Anonymous, FL (2012 Infiniti G Sport 3.7-L V6)

"Severe pulsing when applying brakes. Very uncomfortable to drive with this heavy pulsing and slight pull to one side although all four rotors and pads needed replacing. Now noticing it has just started happening again with very light pulsing and no pull (yet)."

Anonymous, MD (2012 Infiniti G Sport 3.7-L V6)

"Rust resulting from not enough use"

Anonymous, ON (2012 Infiniti G X 3.7-L V6)
Squeaking

"Brakes have pretty much always squeaked. They said it has to do with a dusting on them and/or driving hills."

Anonymous, WA (2012 Infiniti G)

"needed new brake covers"

Harvey H., PA (2012 Infiniti G Sport 2.5-L V6)

"The brakes squeaked from teh start, yet the dealer service said they were fine. Never fixed"

Dean L., CA (2012 Infiniti G Limited 3.7-L V6)

Body Integrity

Squeaks, rattles, wind noises, loose or cracked seals and/or weather-stripping, air and water leaks.

What Owners Say

Air or water leaks

"The interior floods when it rains. The repair ship indicates that this results from leaves and dirt clogging tubes that carry water away from the car chassis. When the tubes become clogged, the water seeps into the interior of the car. I have to fix the problem every 8-12 months, at a cost of over $1000 each time. During the warranty, the reparis were covered by thewarranty. Since then, however, I have had to pay."

Anonymous, DC (2012 Infiniti G X 3.7-L V6)

"Drains clogged"

Anonymous, IL (2012 Infiniti G 3.7-L V6)

"sunroof drains clogged - not at sunroof but in car body. Expensive to have replaced"

Anonymous, TN (2012 Infiniti G)

"The drain from the sun roof clogs and water backs up into the passenger front floor. There was a substantial amount of water. This has happened twice. The service rep said that this is a manufactureer's defect in that the drain tube bends at the bootom and clogs"

Anonymous, NY (2012 Infiniti G X)

"Water leaks into passenger floor"

Anonymous, DC (2012 Infiniti G X 3.7-L V6)

"Water was leaking through the sunroof; Infiniti said it was the drain plugs that were defective and it was out of warranty"

Anonymous, MA (2012 Infiniti G X 2.5-L V6)

"sun roof drains"

"Sunroof drainage became blocked and leaked water into the cabin floor. It cost 1000 dollars to fix.."

Anonymous, LA (2012 Infiniti G Base 3.7-L V6)

"Trunk leaks when opened after raining. The design of the trunk allows water to fall inside instead of channeling it away from the interior when opened. Happens on both left and right side of trunk"

Anonymous, CA (2012 Infiniti G Journey 3.7-L V6)

"had 2 separate water leaks, the first from the sunroof two years ago and the second from a clogged drain hose in the engine compartment in front of the firewall. The car is not garaged, so there are lots of tree droppings which is likely a contributing factor."

Anonymous, MD (2012 Infiniti G Limited 3.7-L V6)

"Sun/roof leaking on driver and passenger side. Water leaking behind dash and onto carpet on both sides. Have heard this has damaged electronics in dash. Did not in my case. Infiniti described repair as replaced dr side and passenger side sunroof drain tube connector. I feel this is a design flaw by Nissan/Infiniti. Water should not be allowed to flow thru the car and out. This only causes problems. Expensive repair, only guaranteed for 1 yr."

Anonymous, (2012 Infiniti G Sport 3.7-L V6)
Seals and/or weather-stripping

"The sunroof drains through a port behind the passenger side firewall. If the gasket at the firewall leaks, the sunroof will drain into the cabin, flooding the right side of the cabin. It is an expensive repair. It was repaired once, and failed again 1 year later"

Anonymous, TX (2012 Infiniti G Journey 3.7-L V6)

"Seem to be failing sooner than expected"

Anonymous, OK (2012 Infiniti G Sport 3.7-L V6)

Electric System

Alternator, starter, hybrid battery and related systems, regular battery, battery cables, engine harness, coil, ignition switch, electronic ignition, distributor or rotor failure, spark plugs and wires failure.

What Owners Say

Alarm or security system (excluding aftermarket systems)

"This problem occurs when you sit in the car and listen to music without it running. Something in the electrical system and or the alarm system cause it to not operate again (the engine won't start) after a couple of minutes. Battery is fine. The cables have to be disconnected for a minimum of 5 minutes and then reconnected and then the car has to be jump started. This has happened 3x now. Infiniti will do nothing about it. The last time it caused the air bag sensor to malfunction and it had to be replaced which was about $1400. Huge issue and no one knows why."

Anonymous, ID (2012 Infiniti G X 2.5-L V6)

Exhaust

Muffler, pipes, catalytic converter, exhaust manifold, leaks.

What Owners Say

Exhaust leaks

"While I expected the stainless steel exhaust system to last much longer (more than 6 years), a leak developed within the steel two steel mesh connectors from the Y-pipe which was too loud to operate legally. I seemed to have happen all of a sudden. I surmise the steel mesh connectors are a weak point within the entire exhaust system which allows moisture to accumulate over the years which ends up corroding/rusting away until a leak is formed. The fix was to replace only the Y-pipe (true OEM stainless steel) which ended up costing (labor and parts) just around $1,000. The remaining exhaust system appears to be in good shape and is expected to last several more years."

Kevin F., IL (2012 Infiniti G X 3.7-L V6)

"The Exhaust Y Pipe was completely corroded and needed replaced."

Anonymous, PA (2012 Infiniti G X 2.5-L V6)

Gerard B., FL (2012 Infiniti G Base 3.7-L V6)

"The passenger side airbag warning light said that the airbag was off even when someone was sitting in the seat. The switch in the seat could not be replaced by itself... the whole seat bottom had to be replaced at a cost of over $5,000. However, Infinity offered to cover most of it and only charged me $1,000, including labor. I'm guessing that this was a common problem...that's why they covered most of it."

Anonymous, FL (2012 Infiniti G Journey 3.7-L V6)

"light came on - didn't go off. Dealer siad it was the diagnostic and computer module and it was very expensive to fix: pwrets $1100 plus 3.5 hours labor. Very distressing. Airbag components should be reliable - never has such a problem before"

Anonymous, NH (2012 Infiniti G X 3.7-L V6)
