This iteration of the Jeep Grand Cherokee is an improvement over its predecessor, but still scored lower than most of its contemporaries. Steering and handling were markedly better, but the Jeep wasn't particularly agile by the standards of the day. The 5.7-liter V8 engine is thirsty and failed to deliver the performance of some V6s in the class. Even average-height drivers complained about the lack of headroom.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

CARL R., FL (2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

“The front seats are terribly uncomfortable - riding or driving over 2 hours becomes an exercise in will-power over torture. I previously owned a 2003 Grand Cherokee and the seats (which Consumer Reports testers said bad things about) were great and I could drive all day. Not so the 2005 - not to mention that they started making the seats wider to accommodate people with overweight problems and I now slide around in it because it's too wide. Other than that, it's a great vehicle for the purpos”

RICHARD C., WA (2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee)
