The iconic Jeep Wrangler has a loyal following, thanks to its classic design, rugged image and legendary history. With an updated powertrain, this may be the best version yet, but the Wrangler is seriously outdated in the modern world. While designed for capable offroading ability, on the road performance is uncivilized. The ride is unsettled, sometimes even snappy. Handling is very clumsy.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

What Owners Say

"Extremely fun to drive. 6-speed manual transmission. All summer, I drvie with the top down and the doors off. Wonderful experience."

RAY K., ON (2014 Jeep Wrangler)

"handles all terrain and road conditions. super off road. unstoppable. handles very well."

ROBERT R., MD (2014 Jeep Wrangler)

"Very good off road but poor build quality. Way too much wind noise on the passenger side. the GPS will occasionally just display the Garmin screen but neither the map or system will operate. poor fit on carpet and plastic on windshield post"

ROBERT W., AZ (2014 Jeep Wrangler)

"This vehicle is fun to drive in any kind of weather. It handles well, steering is tight and I'm happy with acceleration and the overall handling."

LINDA F., NY (2014 Jeep Wrangler)

"The perfect vehicle for Idaho's back country roads."

FRANK S., ID (2014 Jeep Wrangler)

"Love the off road capabilities and the after market accessories that are available."

Anonymous, WI (2014 Jeep Wrangler)

"Handles like a cardboard box with four wheels attached."

EDDIE S., NY (2014 Jeep Wrangler)

"On road, it is perfectly accepatable. Off road it us extraordinary."

JOHN C., TX (2014 Jeep Wrangler)

"It's great off road, but on highways it feels like driving a camel. Very unstable. Once the car just stopped and had to be towed to a dealer for re-programming. Then the GPS system died. Jeep really needs to get a handle on its electronics."

Anonymous, FL (2014 Jeep Wrangler)

"Good power, handles better than expected & great in wet weather"

JOSEPH H., PA (2014 Jeep Wrangler)

"It has great acceleration and handles all road conditions easily"

WESLEY C., IN (2014 Jeep Wrangler)

"Off road cannot be beat, about like driving a tractor, especially with huge tires installed. Does drive like a truck on the highway, but is stable and handles okay."

Craig U., WA (2014 Jeep Wrangler)

"The six cylinder is responsive and the handling is excellent for a vehicle designed primarily for off road use. It should not be compared with a vehicle that is primarily designed for on road use."

John K., PA (2014 Jeep Wrangler)

"Bought a standard shift because I love to shift gears. It makes driving fun again. Because it's geared so low and has a lot of torque, it's not so good at the high end when you want to pass a vehicle and need to get by in a hurry. Don't push it in the corners because it has a high center of gravity. The braking distance isn't great for the same reasonl"

Ray K., ON (2014 Jeep Wrangler)

"Because it is geared toward off road the on road handling is a bit rough and cornering is pretty poor"

Lewis H., CA (2014 Jeep Wrangler)

"Drives like a rugged Jeep, acceleration is peppy!"

Richard D., NV (2014 Jeep Wrangler)

"Excellent turning radius. Great visibility."

Natalie D., CA (2014 Jeep Wrangler)

"Excellent"

Charles H., FL (2014 Jeep Wrangler)

"In the winter I count on the Jeep to conquer icy hills. The Wrangler give me the confidence to go where my 4WD truck can't."

Mike J., GA (2014 Jeep Wrangler)

"Just goog enough its ok"

Joseph S., CA (2014 Jeep Wrangler)

"Drives like a piece of farm equipment on the freeway: loud, bouncy, and sometimes hard to control."

Adam D., NH (2014 Jeep Wrangler)

"Smooth engine power and transmission shifting"

Debra M., MI (2014 Jeep Wrangler)

"In the snow, this is the best vehicle I have ever driven. On wet roads, the rear tires will sometimes lose their grip as the Jeep (Wrangler unlimited) is lighter in the back than the front, like a pickup truck. Changing to a different brand of tires helped a lot. Acceleration is very good. Driving a 4wd truck takes getting used to, you have a higher center of gravity. I bought this Jeep so I can drive when the weather does its worst and it gets me where I need to go reliably with no surprises. I have owned and been driving 4 wheel drive vehicles for work and pleasure since 1973."

Geoffrey H., NY (2014 Jeep Wrangler)

"The acceleration is great and the Jeep responds great when maneuvering. The four wheel drive comes in real handy when off roading. The shift to neutral no wheel drive is great when being towed."

Richard N., TX (2014 Jeep Wrangler)

"Go anywhere vehicle with confidence ."

Kenneth T., KS (2014 Jeep Wrangler)

"For a vehicle with off-road capabilities it accelerates and handles well not only on dirt roads and in snow, but on the highway as well"

Anonymous, PA (2014 Jeep Wrangler)

"It's the only vehicle we own that' enhances the driving experience. It's fun to drive. as opposed to being a utilitarian transportation pod."

Rick M., WA (2014 Jeep Wrangler)

"Excellent cornering and acceleration, lots of power"

Anonymous, MS (2014 Jeep Wrangler)

"In and out of traffic the Jeep has good acceleration and stability. The brakes respond without locking-up and keep the Jeep from loosing control."

Richard N., TX (2014 Jeep Wrangler)

"Great vehicle for winter driving. Our roads for quite a distance are not plowed in the winter. Keep gets us in out without a problem. Yes, the ride is not seamless but going into this vehicle with your eyes open this does not present a problem. Not recommended for a 5000 kilometer summer vacation drive. Suspension is tight. Not a knock, a plus for our purposes."

Anonymous, AB (2014 Jeep Wrangler)

"As they say in NASCAR, loose steering susceptible for "bump steering". It will keep you on your toes on rough roads, especially at highway speeds."

Anonymous, TX (2014 Jeep Wrangler)

"Not much stands out about how a Jeep Wrangler handles, I just like it"

Anonymous, VT (2014 Jeep Wrangler)

"Drives like a true 4x4 truck. It's not meant to be a luxury SUV and lives up to its 75 plus year heritage."

David R., IN (2014 Jeep Wrangler)

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"Very noisy in side cab, also VERY hard to heat or cool."

LEE B., SD (2014 Jeep Wrangler)

"auto climate control does not adjust fan speed as cabin cools or warms"

LYLE C., AZ (2014 Jeep Wrangler)

"The ride is from 1-10 a zero. The car should be illegal. It is one big hazard. It is the worst driving vehicle ever produced in the world. My kids power wheels is a better handling vehicle. I can't believe that the car is legal. It is a square box with four wheels. Road noise is unbearable due to the lack of insulation. It rattles. It is a piece of garbage and a perfect example of The American auto industry. The only reason people buy it is because it is cheap and it is considered a rugged, fun"

EDDIE S., NY (2014 Jeep Wrangler)

"With leather seats as an option, overall ride and comfort are much better than what I have read in other reviews."

JOHN H., TN (2014 Jeep Wrangler)

"Does not have the comfort for long road trips. Seats are fair"

Anonymous, OK (2014 Jeep Wrangler)

"This is an offroad vehicle, expect some road noise when driving on the highway. Overall this is a wonderful vehicle and am very satisfied with my purchase."

MARK A., CO (2014 Jeep Wrangler)

"Fun JEEP ride"

IGNACIO P., PA (2014 Jeep Wrangler)

"Ride is good considering its off road capabilities."

Allan R., MI (2014 Jeep Wrangler)

"Bigger inside than it looks. Comfortable seats back and front."

Adam D., NH (2014 Jeep Wrangler)

"Ruff ride, noisy convertible top and the ride is ruff...."

Cindy B., GA (2014 Jeep Wrangler)

"Everyone talks about how bad the ride in the jeep is. Mine is even a tad worse because I have large hybrid tires. However, where we live in Rhode Island, the roads are so bad it doesn't matter. You get bounced around in a luxury car because of the potholes so you may as well drive a car that can handle the roads without always worrying about sink-holes in the dark or the rain."

Jay B., RI (2014 Jeep Wrangler)

"Leather seats are comfy, road noise much less than a typical car or SUV, along the levels of luxury SUV."

Craig U., WA (2014 Jeep Wrangler)

"This model is designed for off road, therefore, it can not be compared with vehicles that are primarily used on road. Because it is designed for off road, it is a little rough around the edges, but when considering its primary design, it is fantastic in these categories over what would be expected from this type vehicle."

John K., PA (2014 Jeep Wrangler)

"Seats are too soft-not enough support. I bought it for the open air feel to replace a Harley, so I didn't expect much comfort ride-wise."

Anonymous, TX (2014 Jeep Wrangler)

"Yes it's a jeep but you can reduce noise with simple improvements to top and body design. Also rear glass windo for soft top would be nice."

Anonymous, OH (2014 Jeep Wrangler)

"Vert quiet and smooth ride, comfortable seats,"

Anonymous, MS (2014 Jeep Wrangler)

"Seats are very uncomfortable."

Anonymous, PA (2014 Jeep Wrangler)

"Although it is a Jeep and you expect some of its characteristics, the seats could be more comfortable with more adjustments."

Anonymous, WY (2014 Jeep Wrangler)

"They are durable and comfortable for traveling. Some noise in the cabin but much improved when compared to older models."

Ashley M., TN (2014 Jeep Wrangler)

"Try sitting in the back seat! Straight up, barely leans back and the seat bottom is too short as well, no thigh support. Terribly uncomfortable, front seats are fine though."

Anonymous, CA (2014 Jeep Wrangler)

Value

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

MARSHALL P., KS (2014 Jeep Wrangler)

"Hold value well"

Fred B., PA (2014 Jeep Wrangler)

"It's a convertible and even more so with the doors off. Unbelievable sense of freedom driving with the top down and the doors off. No other vehicle does that at any price. Not only is it a 4X4, it is probably the best off-road vehicle you buy at any price."

Ray K., ON (2014 Jeep Wrangler)

"No problems with the vehicle and it retains very high value."

William P., TN (2014 Jeep Wrangler)

"The Jeep Wrangler is an extremely capable vehicle for doing a combination of on-road and off-road driving. No other factory-stock vehicle provides the same ability to handle adverse road conditions or reach far-off-the-the-beaten- path locations."

Anonymous, CA (2014 Jeep Wrangler)

How it looks inside and out

MICHAEL G., AZ (2014 Jeep Wrangler)

Anonymous, WY (2014 Jeep Wrangler)

"Rugged good looks. Functional."

Anonymous, AZ (2014 Jeep Wrangler)

"Being the Dragon edition, it is an eye catcher at stop lights. I also like the digital MPH readout in the speedometer as the tilt steering wheel can block out the analog speedometer at times."

WESLEY C., IN (2014 Jeep Wrangler)

"great look and stance. easy to modify and customize. badging is really sharp. anniversary hood is terrific looking."

ROBERT R., MD (2014 Jeep Wrangler)

"Tuff beefy tires, sporty."
